  1. It was reported by the Houston Chronicle that Cincinnati, Central Florida and Houston will have to pay a hefty fee of $45 million to leave the American Athletic Conference by 2023. The three future Big 12 schools are contractually required to remain in the AAC until 2024. In the article, it states that on top of the $10 million required exit fee that Cincinnati, Houston and UCF are also required to pay a $35 million fee to leave the AAC prior to the 2023 fall season as opposed to the 2024 fall season. AAC bylaws require a $10 million exit fee and a 27-month prior notice to leave, hence why the school’s are contractually obligated to stay until 2024. read more: https://wvsportsnow.com/aac-charging-future-big-12-schools-45-million-to-leave-by-2023/
  2. North Texas’ current NFL players are headlined by a pair of wide receivers in Jaelon Darden and Jalen Guyton, but the program is far more than just a skill-player producer. The Mean Green sported 10 players in the NFL this past season, including two players each at offensive tackle, cornerback, and linebacker. Ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft, that motif might actually carry over as we take a look at their prospects most likely to enter the NFL this offseason. Torrey is a burner with a great top speed as well as a shiftiness to his game. Though short in stature, he ripped off 1,215 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2021. Torrey ran for a combined 36 career rushing touchdowns and chipped in with another 4 receiving scores. As for Novil, he headlines the North Texas defensive group after starting for the past four seasons. He recorded 11.5 career sacks but was a constant force against opposing quarterbacks with a bevy of hurries and hits. Novil was excellent against the run, as he stands 6’4″, 330 pounds. Let’s get to the full reports, including Novil, Torrey, and the rest of the North Texas Mean Green entering the NFL in 2022. 3. DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Damon West starts his presentation with, “We got the Uptown burglar. That’s the name I’m gonna have to live with for the rest of my life. That’s the consequences of my decisions and I wanna tell you because the choices you’re making today are gonna live with you for the rest of your life.” Regarded as the leader in an organized ring that committed dozens of burglaries in Uptown Dallas starting in 2007, West was arrested in 2008. Initially he was sentenced to 65 years in prison. “That jury was able to sentence me to life in prison,” he said. “Obviously I didn’t do the entire life sentence because I’m standing in front of you today.” READ MORE: 'Incredible Ambassador For Wildlife,' Dallas Zoo Mourns Loss Of Capybara Named Fred Freed from prison in 2015, West will be on parole until 2073. He recently shared his life story with student leaders in training from 22 Dallas Independent School District high schools. West told CBS 11 News, “I’ve had a privileged life… got set back with the choices that I made and went to prison. It’s an interesting dynamic too when you talk about race in there because you know, it was for the first time that being white was no longer the advantage.” Alondra Lemmer, a Dallas ISD Leader in Training, says, “I would take it as even though you come from a really bad place, or like you’re in a really bad spot, you can bring yourself upwards.” Once a quarterback at the University of North Texas (UNT), West is proof that life is all about decisions. Now a motivational speaker, his transformation started with a concept shared with him in prison….which helped him co-author a Wall Street Journal best seller titled ‘The Coffee Bean.’ Read more: https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2022/02/28/college-qb-journey-prison-motivational-speaker-dallas-students/
  4. Ole Miss football is expected to hire Purdue special teams coordinator Marty Biagi, according to multiple reports. Biagi has been with the Boilermakers for two seasons, beginning in 2020. Prior to his time with Purdue, Biagi served as North Texas’ special teams coordinator from 2017-19 and was with Notre Dame in 2016 as a special teams analyst. Biagi will replace Jeremy Springer at Ole Miss, who recently left to join the Los Angeles Rams’ staff. Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin hired Springer away from Marshall earlier in February. read more: https://247sports.com/college/ole-miss/Article/Ole-Miss-football-hiring-Purdue-special-teams-coordinator-Marty-Biagi-per-reports-183442176/

  6. UNT System Faculty, Staff, & Students, Happy New Year! I hope each of you were able to spend quality time with your family, friends, and loved ones during the winter break. A new year brings us many new opportunities and I am especially excited to begin this work in my new role as Chancellor for the University of North Texas System. I believe we have limitless potential to shape the future of North Texas and beyond, and I look forward to working with you as we lead our great universities and centers of excellence forward. The unfortunate reality is we will also have challenges to tackle together. Most recently, I know we have all been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years, and all over again the past few weeks as positive cases have increased with the omicron variant. Please know our top priority across the UNT System remains ensuring the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Additionally, our system leadership and universities continue to recommend following COVID-19 safety guidance and mitigation strategies including adherence to public health practices such as practicing good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, as well as screening for potential COVID-19 symptoms. You can stay up to date with these guidelines and recommendations at UNTSystem.edu/covid. We are exploring opportunities to ensure the COVID-19 vaccine is available and accessible to those who are interested and eligible. We are also evaluating the potential for increased COVID-19 testing capacity throughout the entire system as another step to prioritize the health and safety of all. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to our collective success as we embark on a new journey together in 2022. I remain focused on our bright future in anticipation of the success we will see as our system and member institutions soar to new heights. Very respectfully, Dr. Michael R.
