  1. I got this thought from a fan I correspond with and I agree -- With 9 games in -- it is probably time to move away from getting English on the field this season. Let him rehab fully and come back in the spring. Even if he has to burn a year wouldn't it be better for the long term to keep him out of contact? Thoughts?
  2. I know that playing Army 3 times in what seems like a year is overkill. That said, there is a real passion about playing this team both on and off the field. Heres what I know, every time we play them it is a dogfight. They have some of the best fans I have ever seen us have in Apogee both in number and quality. The atmosphere they brought to Apogee last night was special. I realize that playing them is a defensive coordinators nitemare. And I know that we have played them a lot in a short amount of time. I just think that there is something developing between these two programs that should not be ignored.
  3. DENTON, Texas (AP) — Trevor Moore kicked a 39-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to give North Texas a wild 52-49 victory over Army on Saturday night, ending the Black Knights' six-game winning streak. Mason Fine threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns, including a quick 10-yard toss with no timeouts left to get the Mean Green (8-3) a little closer for Moore's winning kick. The longest winning streak for Army (8-3) since 1996 ended despite 244 yards rushing and two touchdowns from quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw. "My most important thing is winning football games," said Bradshaw, who set Army's single-season rushing record at 1,472 yards, breaking Collin Mooney's 9-year-old record of 1,339. "If I have zero yards and we win the game, I'll be happier than having a million yards and losing the game." read more: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2017/11/18/late-fg-lifts-north-texas-to-wild-52-49-victory-over-army/107842444/

  5. This program is not devoid of talent. Woolridge is a legit PG and AJ is one of the better players in the conference. He certainly left something behind to build around.
  6. The sound of constant jumping from the apartment directly above her had become a grim routine for sophomore Carley Carroll, long before the disastrous events of the University of North Texas homecoming game weekend. “Every weekend a different party,” the student told CBS-11. And during some of those parties, Carroll would watch her ceiling go up and down like a trampoline. Sometimes she would even call police in Denton, Tex., to complain — half-worried that it might collapse. And yet, Carroll said, “It’s one of those things you don’t think is actually going to happen.” Then, on Saturday, the North Texas Mean Green walloped the University of Texas at El Paso 45-10 in the big game, and Carroll’s upstairs neighbors threw a party to remember. Police estimated that 100 people crammed into the third-story apartment above her that night — which like every unit in the complex was occupied by college students. read more: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/11/13/a-college-party-was-so-massive-it-crashed-straight-through-the-apartment-floor/?utm_term=.1a94042d1f05
  7. HEAD COACH CANDIDATE?: Though he's only 32, expect the name of Graham Harrell, UNT's offensive coordinator, to come up soon in head-coaching searches, such as the one UTEP will go on soon. "Graham's an unbelievable coach, there's no doubt in my mind he's going to be an unbelievable head coach," Littrell said. "He was born and bred, his entire family, to be a great head coach." read more: http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/college/utep/2017/11/09/north-texas-uteps-shoes-two-years-ago-now-first-place/848399001/
  8. Joe Ozougwu came to North Texas as a developmental project, and he hoped to follow the path blazed by his older brother in Conference USA. The redshirt freshman linebacker had all the physical tools Cheta Ozougwu displayed at Rice before playing four seasons in the NFL. The former Alief Taylor standout just needed some time to tap into them. The younger of the Ozougwu brothers showed he is further along in that process than pretty much anyone realized last week in the Mean Green's win over Louisiana Tech. read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/11/09/ozougwu-bursts-onto-scene-unt
  9. Their struggling offense couldn't score, their team couldn't win, they changed coaches at midseason and there wasn't much indication they could compete at the Conference USA level. That was the state of North Texas football in 2015. They suffered a season-ending loss to UTEP that sent them into a coaching search at 1-11 and hope didn't seem a denizen of that precinct. Fast forward two years and the Miners return to a program turned upside down. The 6-3 Mean Green are first place in C-USA West, prohibitive favorites to win it, a good bet to go into December's league title game at 9-3. Everything that has happened since that loss to UTEP is a blueprint for the Miners, for anyone on the wrong end of the standings, really, as they look to duplicate the miracle in Denton. read more: http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/college/utep/2017/11/09/north-texas-uteps-shoes-two-years-ago-now-first-place/848399001/
  10. Jordan Gorham of Seminole, Florida has committed to swim for the University of North Texas next fall. “Excited to announce that I have verbally committed to swim for the university of North Texas! I can’t wait to be a eagle for the next four years! #meangreen” Gorham attends Seminole High School and swims for West Florida Lightning Aquatic. She specializes in distance freestyle and IM, and has qualified for next week’s Florida 3A state championships in both the 200 IM (2:09.91) and 500 free (5:01.60). At the 2016 FHSAA 3A state meet she placed 9th in the 500 and 12th in the 200 free. In club swimming, Gorham tends to begin with 200s and go up from there. She wrapped up last year’s short course season with a top-8 finish in the 1650 free (5th) and B-final performances in the 500 free and 400 IM at the 2017 Florida Swimming Senior Championships in February. She swam a similar program at her LCM championship meets this summer, earning PBs in the 800 free and 200 IM. read more: https://swimswam.com/distance-swimmer-jordan-gorham-commits-north-texas/
  11. UTEP is making a change at tailback, as Quardraiz Wadley injured his clavicle and Joshua Fields, who went into Middle Tennessee as the No. 3 tailback, ended up rushing for 87 yards. "Josh Fields is the guy now," Price said. "I was very pleased with him. He's only a freshman. He has a long career ahead of him." As for what is immediately ahead, that's a North Texas team that leads the Conference USA West, just two years removed from a 1-11 season. More: Three things that went right for UTEP "They made a coaching change. They are off and running the newest offense available," Price said of the Mean Green's rise. "They got out and recruited the Dallas area very hard. They've done a nice job recruiting. They recruited skill people to that passing offense." That's what UTEP faces Saturday in Denton. read more: http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/college/utep/2017/11/06/utep-football-price-this-more-complicated-than-thought/837301001/
  12. Friday can’t come quickly enough for the Longhorns. Fresh off of a disappointing first-round loss at the hands of Baylor in the Big 12 Championship, the Longhorns are eager for redemption heading into the NCAA Tournament. Monday’s televised draw saw North Texas selected as the Longhorns’ home opponent. The matchup marks Texas’ first postseason appearance since 2014. “Big 12 (play) didn’t go as planned,” freshman forward Haley Berg said. “But we’ve looked over it, we’ve talked as a team and with our coaches, we know what happened and we know what we need to do to get back to our fighting mentality.” The two programs met earlier this year in a preseason contest. Texas dominated possession, outshooting the Mean Green 21-7, but it took a last-minute goal by sophomore Cyera Hintzen to put the team away, and the Longhorns edged by 1-0 on the road. 14. The Denton Record-Chronicle is going to be locally owned again. Bill Patterson, the longtime publisher of the Record-Chronicle, is purchasing the paper from A. H. Belo Corp., which has owned the publication since 1999. The sale will be completed by the end of the year, he announced Tuesday afternoon. "I think there's a great opportunity in Denton," Patterson said. "I feel strongly that Denton needs a daily newspaper and robust and trusted digital portfolio, and I believe we can be productive and grow." The decision to buy came after Patterson and leaders at A. H. Belo realized the solutions to problems at The Dallas Morning News, the flagship publication of A.H. Belo, wouldn't necessarily work at a smaller paper like the Record-Chronicle, Patterson said. Grant Moise, executive vice president of A. H. Belo, reiterated that the paths forward for the two papers weren't the same. So the split makes sense, he said. The two companies will continue to work together after the split, Moise said. The newspaper will still be printed and distributed through Belo, and The News and the Record-Chronicle will continue to share content. "The real difference will be in the ownership structure, and Bill and the DRC team will have real, true autonomy and independence over the strategic decisions they make in the future," Moise said. "We're excited we're going to remain business partners with the DRC, and I hope we'll be able to play a meaningful part of their future, just in a different way." read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/news/news/2017/10/31/longtime-publisher-buying-denton-record-chronicle-ah-belo
  15. Florida Atlantic running back Devin Singletary ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns, the last of which set a program single-season rushing record, as the Owls totaled a Conference USA record 804 yards of offense in a 69-31 rout of North Texas. read more: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/college-football/fau-explodes-for-804-yards-rout-north-texas/s3fXUpu4NC6haugOvqoxYJ/
  16. Florida Atlantic finished with a Conference USA-record 804 yards in a 69-31 downing of North Texas on Saturday night. The Owls (4-3, 3-0) scored on their first 11 drives, including nine touchdowns. Singletary had scoring runs of 2 and 3 yards in the first quarter. In the second he made a jump cut to change direction just behind the line of scrimmage and sprinted through the gap for a 22-yarder, his 14th touchdown of the season, a school record. read more: http://www.foxsports.com/florida/story/florida-atlantic-north-texas-score-recap-102117

  18. Call it Separation Saturday. Marshall and North Texas did what they do last week. The Herd kept up its stingy defensive ways, in a 35-3 win over Old Dominion. The Mean Green put up 441 yards of offense in a 29-26 win over UTSA, which leads C-USA in total defense. Clearly the class of the league at the moment, Marshall and North Texas stayed atop our rankings as co-No.2s. 2. Marshall (5-1, 2-0): The Herd is the first team in league history (22 years) to not allow a TD in its first two conference games. Up next: Friday, at Middle Tennessee. 2. North Texas (4-2, 3-0): Led by QB Mason Fine and RB Jeffrey Wilson, the high-powered Mean Green are threatening to pull away in the West. Up next: Saturday, at FAU. read more: https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/football/conference-usa-power-ratings-marshall-north-texas-are-separating-from/article_4a5c4a0f-f776-5233-bf49-c24f4a652bd9.html
