And let's say your team is in the playoff tournament. And this team wins the first round. Do you ask off next week as well ? And then what do you do the third week ? Did you team win again and if so, do you have the money to keep following them all over the country ? I think the playoff system is a good idea on paper. However, under the current system, half the teams get to be the XYZ Bowl Champions. Half the teams win their last game. And all 36 or 40 or whatever it is get a bowl game trip to celebrate a winning season. As for me, I'd be pleased to go back to New Orleans next December. And the next. GO MEAN GREEN

I read today that Bill Parcells has already fired the General Manager of the Dolphins and that Head coach Cam Montgomery would visit with Parcells next week. Patrick has done well when he has gotten on the firld. I hope he can stick until training camp opens. GO PATRICK GO MEAN GREEN

I got my Winter edition of "The North Texan" and there is an article about Abner Haynes induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The article says the induction ceremony will be Tuesday March 11 in Waco. This is the first news I've heard of Abner's election to the HOF since the news was announced. Lifer-I chuckled to myself when UNTPhd responded. I wish the gift was simple enough so as to only need a master's degree to use it. I recall when Howard came on board, he mentioned a run at a National Championship within a timetable. 10 15 years ? I don't know. But they're done everything else they've set out to do. Certainly with no hinderance from North Texas. Good luck to them. Their success only helps the Sun Belt. And success in the Sun Belt helps North Texas.

With nothing but time on my hands Christmas Day, I started looking through some old North Texas stuff. I found a really nice bag given to me from the MeanGreen Club a couple of years ago. When I opened it, I remembered why I had never used it. Inside the bag is a big black nylon thing with "Mean Green" on the "back" and a hood hidden inside a zipper. There are 2 other aippers about 18 inches apart and a snap that makes no sense to me at all. Did anyone else get this gift from the Mean green Club ? The bag is fine, except for the parrot Eagle logo. But I need help figuring this thing out. Is it a sleeping bag for skinny people with a huge hole in the middle ? Did I get a factory second (or third) ? And why couldn't it be green just as well as black ? Happy New Year to all the Mean Green Nation. GO MEAN GREEN

Part of the low attendance may be the City of New Orleans' fault. I've been to 4 new Orleans Bowls (you guess which 4 ). Each time, when I got to the airport, or the hotel, or went out to eat, and locals asked why we were there, we would reply "the New Orleans Bowl." "You mean the Sugar Bowl ?" "No the New Orleans Bowl." "Never heard of it" frequently was the reply. And when you look at things to do in the Big Easy during the Christmas holidays, the New Orleans Bowl is rarely mentioned. I agree, the schools playing should carry the majority of the load, but something needs to be done to increase visibility to New Orleans locals. GO MEAN GREEN

I really like the $1,000. per year for season tickets/Mean Green Club/Stadium construction. And friends...Don't wait to support your athletic deptartment. You don't need to be asked. You know that OUR athletic department needs you and me and everyone. Son't wait to be asked. Step up and give as much as possible. GO MEAN GREEN

I know from my retail days, that if we were to sell, say, 33,000 or 34,000 items, there would be some profit margin built in. So, we take some "profit" margin that must be built into the sale of one of those 33,000 items, and pay for one student's tuition and fees. Bad idea ? Probably. Or we could bring in a chicken from San Diego. How do you want to spend your money ?

How about a promotion that would require students to be registered by the end of the first quarter, and have a drawing after the game. The winning student would get next semester's tuition and fees paid based on what they were signed up for the current semester. They must be present to win. GO MEAN GREEN

I think it's ugly. But to answer GREENEXES question, the only thing that has been consistant has been the term, North Texas. We've been North Texas Normal College, North Texas State and finally the University of North Texas. I "correct" my wife constantly that we are simply, "NT" and not "UNT." I'd like to change the line in the fight song from, "U-N-T-EAGLES" (fight, fight, fight) to "NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN" (fight, fight, fight). GO MEAN GREEN

In the 25 or so years I have had season tickets on the Alumni side, I have never heard anyone tell anyone to sit down. Now I don't pretend to have heard everythng that goes on on the west side, but I stand whenever I wish and for as long as I wish. I like having the band and the dancers face our side as well. Sit wherevere you wish. But wherever you sit, buy season tickets. Make a committment to the program that shows up in the box score after the game. GO MEAN GREEN

It means North Texas wasn't a military school. Not a Nursing school or Engineering school. We were a Normal College. And I'd like to point out, North Texas hasn't been normal in years. GO MEAN GREEN

I'm going to a Christmas party thursday night ( I know, it's a little early) . The people at the pjarty were concerned that the Dallas Cowboy game would prevent people from coming to the party. I told them I had never heard of the Dallas Cowboys. Only of North Texas, where all these party goers attended. They're all getting mini helmets from Walgreens. $19.95 ea, it's the best price around.
