  1. I knew about the Thomas, Meager, and Fitz stuff. I was actually kind of excited to try to break those records on NCAA 09 and 10. They didn't update them though. Like the school records for TD passes etc. Eh. I digress.
  2. I don't think anyone knows the words to that song, but if you are willing to teach some people, I'll sing it. Also, apparently we cannot say Eagles unless it is university-approved but also we must say Eagles so as not to offend the people that attended NTSU and don't give a crap about anything. There have been like three suggestions, in total. Eppy4life tried like hell to hijack the thing. The rest of it has been bitching about the fight song. This chant/cheer is in addition to the stuff we do now. This isn't about changing anything, nor is it a space for you to vent about how you like cheering during opposition kick-offs. A good portion of you whiners cry about not having what those Big Number conferences have. Do it now. Make something up. Now. It isn't open-mike night for your crappy 'we suck' jokes, Eppy. Nor is anyone trying to change all your dear traditions, Rudy. Also, this isn't for the cheerleaders. When the male-cheerleader comes back and tells you 'no we can't use that' ignore him. Let's come up with a cheer that you old crusties in the Alumni section -- who have lots of excuses but no enthusiasm come up with something that you can cheer. And dammit that M-E-A-N G-R-Double E-N thing has grown on me and FFR can fulfill his dream to be Fireman Ed and lead it if it means we get to do it.
  3. Seems to me that it isn't much more complicated than any other school. Just 'too expensive and too much red tape' to do it for little ole' North Texas, huh? Really, I don't give a crap how hard it is to stock UNT t-shirts in your store, just like I don't give a crap how hard it is to make a good burger and fries. I just want what I want. Make it happen, Retailer Guy.
  4. anyone with a good link to the details of this agreement?
  5. Other than better video boards, some upgrades to concessions and maybe a fan shop I don't see much to complain about. Fouts was the worst stadium in college football or damn close to it. The Pit is the best-kept secret of the Metroplex.
  6. Good for grampa eagle. Like I said, I don't mind Eagles or Mean Green. I don't like preference of one over another.
  7. I'm completely down with 'Mean Green' getting more prominence. F branding. I don't mind the two names being used together, as that is also unique. (sorta --I suppose Auburn maybe can say something about that). So, hows about this: At the UTA game, say MEAN GREEN EAGLES FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT in place of the current U! N! T! EAGLES etc. Also, I say let's spell out MEAN GREEN. We could do it cross ways like NORTH TEXAS with the Pit Crew, alternating letters on the first go-round, then all together for the next four times. (I pick 5 times cuz why not).
  8. As long as he says it in his Golf-Announcer voice its cool.
  9. OMG. Wut. This is all kinds of ridiculous. I am so ashamed.
  10. Being top 5 in football hasn't been huge for their attendance has it?
  11. Unlike UNTCrazy, when I can't wait for this to be an automatic W, I intend to offend. The Woman says, "I hope it's another good game!" I agree, and so far I don't see why we should expect much different. UNT 85 - UTA 75, me tryiing to start the 'M-E-A-N G-R-Double-E-N' chant.
  12. So I wonder if it was the subtle digs at OU and A&M that got me negative votes or that I suggested ripping them off? College football is filled with teams ripping off others. Go look at why so many teams are named Tigers or Wildcats. I think it was KSU's coach who dubbed them that after working at Northwestern. Even now, Indiana looked awfully like OU a couple seasons ago, and Iowa State got some nice USC-type unis huh? After sleeping on it, I like the spelling out of Mean Green. We can just spell it out or take turns like the North Texas chant. We can try it out at the UTA game.
  13. Rip off cheers: 1. You liked KSU's "Kaaayy Essss Youuuu ... Wildcats!" cheer. Then you'll like "Youuu Ennnn Teeee ... Eagles!" We have something similar now, but this will be more drawn out. 2. Something Aggie-like. Like this. Thing is they take a lot of practice. Us being city folk, we don't have time for all that noise. They practice between cow-tipping and dressing up like soldiers. Though now that I look closer those are pretty simple. So hows about: "M-E-A-N G-R-Double-E-N Mean! Green! Eagles!" 3. More 'North -- Texas' chants. (That is just like Texas Fight!). Maybe add 'Mean-Green?' 4. Hirickity whoopteedoo Boomer Sooner whatever. You know. Like OU. It's kind of corny and outdated so its kind of hard to wrangle into something NT-related. Custom-made: 1. See 2 above, without a weird aggie hand gesture it is pretty original if not generic. 2. [This is where you come in] By the way, our history of live eagle mascots is so sad. Ugh. Just re-read the stuff from the traditions website.
  14. why no 'University' cheers? Also, that KSU thing is such a KU ripoff. Don't be jealous of that crap. The good news is that those students who cheer will be alumni soon and actually cheer and stand up on third downs. BTW, coming up with good cheers isn't exclusively the domain of the cheer squad you know? Doesn't even need to be the Pit Crew or the Talons. In fact, let's do it now. Lemme start a new thread ....
  15. Hey, at least he is involved. He sells hot dogs during basketball games and reaches out to the cheer leading captain to try to change her opinion of a controversial decision. I don't mind it.
  16. If you mean can we make the University look awesome by supporting it? Yes.
  17. I also wrote a letter to RV: Dear RV, Do you think we could wear purple? Perhaps call ourselves the horned lizards? If not, do you think you could score me some tickets at the Amon Carter? I know there are plenty of seats for a top 5 team but it would be nice to not pay given how lame I am Sincerely WishIwentToTCU
  18. At this point in the program, I judge success or failure on the SBC tournament. This team is good enough to win it so I expect to make the NCAAs regardless. With that said, I know the big dance is the dream -- not conference titles. At large bids are 'we know your good and losing your conference tourney was just bad luck' rewards for historically doing well in the tourney against established, good teams (not to mention doing well in the reg season v those teams as well). We haven't beaten ranked teams in the regular season or anyone in the big dance so I can't be disappointed at not getting an at-large bid. Just haven't paid our dues as a program yet.
  19. Kansas has a nice little team. Maybe JJ will go easy on 'em. UNT by 22.
  20. Every head coach has players that quit and/or get suspended etc. No one said he should have foreseen the future-- just that he is partly at fault for the predicament. To his credit, we aren't horrible this year. You all good with more almost-could-have-been one point losses and special teams gaffes? Cool. I can see the good in those games. Though It is a lot easier to get my wife and non-hardcore football friends to come to a game with this line: "Yeah they are good this year! Dunbar tearing it up!" than this one: "The have lost four but they were all close and we have a lot of injuries--who is snarky puppy?"
  21. Yeah. Our offensive production is up from those last Dickey* years. Everything else is way down, unfortunately. I think ol' Papa Dodge would make a decent o-coordinator someplace, though I think he'll run back to HS once he gets the boot. *wrote 'Dodge' at first.
  22. I suppose I should just put up my stance on this topic on the Denia guy' thread, or maybe the mgn site so I won't have to re-hash this again. In any case, TFLL brings up a good point about Quarterbacks. Talent evaluation is notoriously hit-and-miss, and given the resources Papa Dodge has to work with, he has to be shrewd. I am not defending the guy, he is hired to win games (in addition to schmoozing for dollars) and he hasn't. Take a guy like Jim Harbaugh -- the dude took a crappy U of San Diego team and won, then took a horrible, horrible Stanford team and turned them into top-25 material. Dodge took a three-win team and turned them into a perennial one-or-two win teams. He can still coach some offense, though. So there's that.
  23. Thanks for the tip. I'll get right on it.
  24. welcome. we will now proceed to attack you relentlessly.
