  1. Giving a dude a contract and then having to eat it is all part of the risk analysis of offering the contract in the first place. Good for Seth. Here's hoping he enjoys the rest of his time.
  2. heard it is not the orleans, but elsewhere.
  3. oh yeah I think that is always on the mind of any head coach. They know it can turn quickly, and whereas you were the hottest thing ever suddenly you are hated by everyone. Seth Littrell had a little of that. He was rumored to go to K-State, MISS ST, and other spots and now he's a glorified GA. I think these guys are competitors, and all *know* they can do the job at the best places -- but also that it is a step-up in all the ways. It won't be Brett Vito and the Daily and (sometimes) MGN interviewing him after the game. But yeah that's the deal you take. You want more people to care about game 10 and not only game 38? Well, consider they will CARE about game 10, and you will be asked about it a ton, and your players will have to read more than just 5-10 negative tweets from fans. I'm sure he thought about it.
  4. It would need to be $3MM a year, PLUS $10MM toward a new arena+hoops facilities like, TODAY. Tech already has that, plus the best league in the nation. He can walk into the Womble this afternoon. He can start earning his new salary as soon as he signs on the line that is dotted. We can start spending money on the things that will attract and keep the next good coach right now, however. TTU spend money in 2018 to build that center for Chris Beard. It will be Mac that is kicking his feet up in the offices, however.
  5. I don't think it is bad to interview a couple of guys nationally. I think it is going to Hodge (if Hodge is not going to Tech with Mac) and I am fine with that for a lot of reasons. I think he can be a part of the process.
  6. Like any place, I’m sure Lubbock sucks a whole lot less when you have a couple million in the bank.
  7. Yep. It’s a great chance for Mac to step up to the best league in the nation and challenge himself there. Tech has the tools — they built that hoops facility for Beard — and he has a history there so there’s at least a little comfort and that probably makes it so much easier. I think North Texas squeezed just about all the juice from this relationship as possible. The ball didn’t bounce their way vs La Tech or vs UAB else we’d see maybe one more tourney appearance. I think getting to Vegas is a big deal. Not as big of a deal as a Sweet 16 but I’ll take it, especially in light of where we were when he took over. As ever, the job is to not stay stuck, but to move forward. Y’all know Mark Few took over Gonzaga after the first guy left yeah? 😉
  8. Jeff Goodman hears things from basketball people. People close to NT have said Mac interviewed. There was interest previously. Texas Tech has not made any coaching hires while Georgetown, St. Johns, Iona, Wichita St, and others have locked up their dudes as quickly as the openings happened. Now either Tech is super slow with this hire, or they have already made a handshake agreement and are waiting for him to complete his tourney run. Now, until it is all official and signed and announced, anything could change. He could have an unsigned contract in his back pocket and decide to tear it up dramatically as they celebrate an NIT victory at the Orleans Arena in Vegas. More likely he wants to finish out this run with this special group of guys and then talk about the future when the season is officially over.
  9. Also now the recap: https://meangreennation.com/nit-north-texas-65-osu-59-tylor-perry-goes-off/
  10. https://meangreennation.com/podcast/197-perry-clutch-in-stillwater/ We talked about that game. you know the one.
  11. Yeah it will be black jerseys unless they got Nike to supply replacements this quick. Also https://meangreennation.com/nit-north-texas-mean-green-at-oklahoma-state-in-quarterfinal-round/ < -- little preview on MGN
  12. Guess we have our answer. She was out of contract. Not renewed. I like the way they handled it from both sides.
  13. The good news is that flights are usually cheaper if you buy on a Tuesday, which happens to be gameday vs Okie St. GMG
  14. In short, no. No one is allowed to use the NT marks unless you apply and are approved. Last I looked into this process you need to pay a fee, submit samples, and guarantee the university a certain minimum of revenue up front. You also then pay something like 10-20% of the value. Also, in NIL things you are not permitted to use marks at all. That's the state law.
  15. The FAU staff told me that they voted Rubin Jones as their defensive player of the year. He made the all-defensive team. On the MGN podcast, we talked about his ability to pass, score, and defend. I don't know who is not singing his praises, but he's value and talent are well known among those who watch regularly.
  16. NT didn't play a sexy home schedule. C-USA teams are solid, but there is little name recognition. I mean, I was still telling people who Jelly Walker was at the league tournament so it stands to reason that without a helping of knowledge folks weren't going to pack in the Pit for that game. The metroplex has a lot of entertainment and I don't blame folks for choosing like, the Mavericks (Luka/Irving) over C-USA basketball. I'll reiterate that NT needs a smaller arena, to maximize the impact the 4K who attend make.
  17. in 1974, sure. In 2026, nah. I don't mind the occasional Wyoming. I mean its beautiful country. Plan a trip out there, see all the rich people with ranches, and sit in the crisp open air and then come home to Texas. I don't see the problem whatsoever.
  18. I figured I'd stay at the Orleans, even though its not as nice. I figure walking distance to the arena is fine. I can always get to the strip easily.
  19. He should have had 30 last night. That's on him, mostly.
  20. its pretty in CBB to have 6'7" dudes as your four man. It brings versatility. If you get an athlete like Scott or Thomas Bell there you can do so much. I mean, Kawhi Leonard played the four as a 6'7" guy.
  21. 1. I know people were mentioning a recent extension --but from what I remember it was in 21 for two years. So this was the end of that contract (she got a bump to 195K per + it was fully guaranteed for finishing top-4). I don't remember her getting more time. 2. Sure, I think the contention is that the will (read: money) to find the right coach is not there. Also, Hedlund sort of fell into our lap and we were underfunding his program for a long while. This is part of my point. If Mitchell is doing mediocre, (and assuming the contract isn't up this season) let's spend any extra money on making sure the soccer squad can compete in the AAC, as it is a point of pride and we will want to continue the success.
  22. maybe Jeff can afford the price bump for hub club tix now
