  1. So we get $1M and have to pay someone $600K to backfill. We also lose additional $ from increased ticket sales, concessions, and parking. Wasn’t this game also used to justify cancelling the Army series? This is why you never schedule a P5 at their place first. This was so easy to see when it was scheduled and I said as much. So in the end, we chose to cancel the Army series, got paid less than market to go to Cal, and we replaced all of this for a home and home with Liberty. All the while we probably come out getting paid less. Ouch.
  2. I believe you. I kinda now remember we had some sort of new technology urinals that used less water or something after the wall. Yes, we were bragging about...urinals. My bad! The player was very real though.
  3. The pee wall gone? I believe you. I'm sorry but the only memory I have of those bathrooms has a pee wall and let's just say the memory is not rock solid like it used to be. Why would a player end up there? I don't know but he did. I assumed he walked there from around the end of the stands where I came from as I resided on the deck those days. Now let's add "the deck" as premium seating on the list of things that were jacked during those days.
  4. It was near the bottom. We were only a few years removed from the Southland (FCS). People sure give RV a hard time but he absolutely raised the bar for us. Here is how bad it was when RV got here: Fouts Field was absolutely the worst stadium in FBS football. They had to bring in generators to handle the electrical needs for a game. If you had front row seats on the 50 yard line you were a good 35 yards from the field. Those seats were too bad to sit in of course because they were low and the field had a crown. All you could see was the players asses. People were trying to think up ways to improve Fouts (not demolish it which was the right answer) back then. True story...in the 7 OT game against FIU I just couldn't hold it any longer and went to visit the pee wall. In comes a player with the same issue. Also opposing teams headsets would routinely malfunction so our coaches would have to take off their headsets. Strength and Conditioning - What S&C? I know there was one but I honestly don't know where athletes worked out before the athletic center was built. Someone please inform me. Our current plan is to greatly expand the athletic center that we have identified as an area to improve. So before the current athletic center was built which was a giant leap forward, athletes did strength training wherever the heck that was. Meeting space - I remember we had a "big donation" of $100,000 to renovate some space in the bowels of Fouts. That was a big leap forward at the time. No, I'm not kidding. Sports Medicine - Please see strength and conditioning above. Practice Fields - I think there were 2(?) fields where the parking lot is between Fouts and Traditions Hall. It was surrounded by chain link fence. Academic Center - I don't know where that was either, I just don't know if there was some space dedicated to that or not or how many people we had dedicated to that endevor. Coaching salaries -- Near the bottom of the Sun Belt when we joined. We were at or near the top when we left. Uniforms - some programs would have to fundraise to buy their own uniforms. Sports Nutrition - I almost forgot this one. There was none. Yeah, things were bad.
  5. I would like the MGBPC to discuss what our recruiting expectations should be considering: Highest paid HC in the conference High Asst Coach salary pool in the conference Best facilities in the conference Location The obvious answer is at or near the top every year but how much distance should there be between the rest of the pack? How well should we expect to compete with those at the top of the G5?
  6. This “should” not be a brutal schedule but it is.
  7. Great question! I think it depends on where you are in your career and what you want to accomplish. If your primary focus is to springboard to a P5 job I think UNT is the play because you can look good and be in demand by winning the easiest G5 division in CFB. This is of course you believe in Seth and the direction he is taking. I think the money will be close between the two so I don’t think that is a big issue. I could be wrong here. I think SMU will be good again next year but after that it will be middle of the road in the American for them. It’s hard to stand out in the middle of the pack.
  8. This has got to be one of the most factually incorrect and ridiculous threads I have ever read peppered with a few good takes. Here are a few of the jemstones: La has real talent and Tx doesn’t. Anybody ever associated with the air raid doesn’t care about defense. Anybody ever associated with the air raid doesn’t care about offensive linemen. Only a former lineman truly understands that games are won in the trenches. La Tech has some sort of other worldly advantage because they are on the quarter system and not the semester system. Tis the offseason.
  9. Any honest person will also concede Harrell was better than Reeder with sooooooo much returning.
  10. Yes I do remember all of those. I also remember thrashing SMU and Arkansas on our way to a 9 win season.
  11. Right? His offense was 29th and 24th nationally the last two years he was here.
  12. There is also that hot shot OC at Texas A&M Darrell Dickey.
  13. This is soooo true. I’ve seen other boards lament how long it seemed Mason was in the conference.
  14. I bet they go after Graham Harrell.
  15. I had a UNT police officer tell me they would often catch students getting amorous at Fouts in the evening. They called them FFFs or Triple Fs. That stood for Fouts Field F&€¥ers.
  16. That’s such BS. Did you see the stands?
  17. The grays look great up close but look dirty/dingy from a distance.
  18. The program has made huge strides in being a better program. I compare us against our conference mates. How does our HFC salary compare? How does our assistant salary pool compare? How do our facilities compare? How does our nutrition compare? How does our strength and conditioning compare? How does our recruiting budget compare? How does our recruiting personnel compare? The answer to most of those is best in conference. We need to take the next step in recruiting budget and head count. We are close to being best of class in ALL of the previous mentioned areas except for recruiting budget but it’s getting better. We are close to having no excuses. When you have that you have higher expectations (which we are seeing now). I know many don’t want to hear this but we need some more time to catch up. We need two more years We are trending upward as a program. We are setting ourselves up to be the next Boise, UCF, or Houston of CUSA. That doesn’t happen over night after 100 years of neglect. Any success we’ve had in the past was smoke and mirrors. Now we finally have a foundation.
  19. I think that’s more in the past Plumm. Ejiya , Hall, and Torrey are all JUCO’s Seth brought in.
  20. That has been my guess about RV being cut out of the process but are we 100% sure this was the case?
