Did I sleep thru the details of Coach Mac's contract extension?

To remain at the 1a level you had to average 20,000 home attendance per game in 30,000 seat stadium. This is why a successful alum donated enough money to put 10,000 bleacher seats in our stadium, none of which ever saw a butt.

We played only 4 home games[10 game season] that year and averaged 19,500 per game in attendance. Lost at Oklahoma State by 2 points, and at Boise in 1aa playoff by 4 points.

MVC at the "The Pit" watching John Savage play are some of my favorite college memories. I later became friends with an SMU basketball who played against Savage in "The Pit". He said that he had a breakaway near the seats on the side and someone stuck their foot out and tripped him.For those of you too young to have seen a game there in the 60's missed some of the best basketball teams in the nation playing us in a high school gym. I wonder what ever happened to "Big John".

I served on the University Foundation Board for 3 years in the early 90's, and part of our job was to try and consolidate small donations into funds that Al Hurley could have access to for special speakers,events,etc. However,we made him jump thru hoops when he requested money.I asked why, and was told that when Hayden Fry left North Texas the athletic program was indeed broke. The only thing that had kept it afloat was President Nolan transferring funds to the athletic department that had been given to the University,some of which had been designated by the donor for a specific purpose other than athletics. When this was discovered[i think after Nolan's departure] the Athletic Department had to repay the misappropriated monies. This was reason given to me for our drop to 1AA in football, and why the Foundation Board had installed procedures to prevent this abuse happening again.I am 70 and have slept since then, but this is my understanding of these events.

The program is in a tough situation with an outdated stadium and shunned by Bear Bryant Jr. who runs the Alabama B.O.R.,either officially or unofficially. He killed a new on campus stadium a few years ago, and prevented UAB from hiring an up and coming coach whose name escapes me. As long as he is alive,UAB is dead.

I think its harder for a small town like Denton to keep locals as opposed to a major city like Houston,San Antonio, or Dallas. What surprises me is the small number of players that TCU was able to keep in Ft. Worth.

This will be a great venue for our students majoring in Hotel Management[that's probably not actual name of degree].

I don't count any wins against high schools. Our non conference home schedule was a joke, with exception of SFA.

We have enough money as a member of CUSA to compete in athletics with AAC,MW,Sun Belt,and MAC conferences. What we don't have is enough extra cash to buy out bad hires.That money will have to come from alumni,and while we have a few deep pockets,we probably don't have nearly enough.

I would like 6&6 teams not to be able to play in bowl games,which would reduce their number.

As regards expanding the stadium, I would think that we would want to create a demand by routinely selling out what we have. Otherwise, we have an outdoor basketball arena with 2,000 fans in a 9,000 seat venue.[sound familiar] Regarding drunks at the HOD,saw a group get into a pushing match a few rows below me but no blood. Personally, I would rather keep the drunks out than bring them in. I have yet to see a study that says beer sales will bring more fans, but I have club seats where liquor is sold and have not seen any problems.I haven't had a drink in 25 years,but never liked being around drunks even when I was one.

I have slept since then, but as I recall Buddy Temple was tasked with closing small state universities because did not attract enough students and were not economically feasible to operate. Because of politics he was unable to do this. However, the smaller schools, such as WTSU,ETSU,,Pan American,Tarlton State,etc. became part of either the TA&M or Texas systems[uTA switched from from A&M to Texas]. North Texas State declined to become a part of the Texas System,and TWU wanted no part of us.The upshoot was that TA&M,Texas,TT,UNT, and one other school[either Houston or SFA] increased academic requirements and put somewhat of a cap on campus housing in an effort to drive enrollment to underutilized campuses. I have often wondered how we would have faired as part of the UT system. At any rate, I think my account is close enough for government work,but certainly am open to corrections.

My son is a UAB grad, and the problem is Bear Bryant Jr. As long as he is head of Alabama's BOR,[ or alive] UAB will not be allowed to replace Legion Field, which is literality falling down. It is a dead end job, but then,so is North Texas. Hayden Fry and Jerry Moore are only head football coachs that I can think of that stepped up when they left,and J.J, the only head basketball coach.

Louisville's head basketball coach has had similar problems. Screwed a woman in back of a restaurant while an assistant coach stood guard.
