  1. Pretty great class. I am sorta surprised at the 3 added so recently after their time was done. Well earned tho.
  2. The AP voted on a National Champion after the bowl games beginning in 1968. From '36-67 they did so before Bowls.
  3. If the NCAA were going to step in and force it to happen, it would've done so decades ago.
  4. Not if they get the Big 10 with them. Those 2 leagues are lockstep. We'd be back to the Bowl Alliance or whatever it was called that preceded the BCS.
  5. I'm sure Pete Carroll loves this since he's one of the biggest proponents of a playoff.
  6. Obviously this should be pinned at the top of the board. Thanks for dropping by Rick.
  7. Vitale's thoughts. http://espn.go.com/dickvitale/070726skipprosser.html
  8. He was a great coach, and seemed like a good guy. He went much too soon...
  9. Belt football was a hodgepodge of schools in '01, but it's not like most of them were start up. The Blue Raiders were, yes - and oddly enough they were our main competiton. ULM wasn't a newbie...they went 1A before we did. And it's not like we ever had much success against them in the Southland. They were the constant nemesis. ULL never even went 1-AA. ASU - hell we'd played them in the Big West. And been dominated basically. Idaho - we were snake bitten against that school. Wasn't it 2000 where we lost that game where they completed a 70 yard pass on the next to last play of regulation to set up the winning FG? Vandals consistently beat us in the Kibbie Dome. NMSU and us had a huge history. They also were not a start up school. We almost always seemed to win though. Success was far from guaranteed when the league started up. It's revivionist history to say that we shoulda just blown everyone's doors off. The SBC mighta been lousy, but so was the Southland - and we only won that league acouple of times. (and the BW wasn't very good either) Dickey totally lost it the last 2 seasons(and he deserved to go), but he and his staff deserve alot of credit for their run.

Let's do away with the 8 hour work day, 5 day work week, overtime, paid vacations, child labor laws, and any other numerous things that socialistic thinking have brought to the country. These types of laws were all put in place because no matter how crappy the pay, hours worked, etc - there is always someone willing to take the job. Or make their child work.

I think many people tend to pucker up whenever anyone mentions socialism. But honestly most democratic systems use some sort of socialized version of capitalism. Even the USA with such things as a minimum wage, labor laws, and anti-trust legislation - ALL of which are against the tenents of pure capitalism. More countries are moving towards social democracies every year. Great Britain's Labour Party is perceived as a party for social democracy - and they have been our closest ally for years. The idea of combining capitalism and socialism is hardly a boogeyman.
  12. Don Bebe did step out of bounds on that play. On the other hand, Buffalo's momentum was building into a tidal wave at that point...I doubt it would've mattered much...they were going to score on that drive. I don't recall the catch that was in question, but it's not like Houston didn't get some breaks to go their way in that contest.
  13. Nope...the Bills won the AFC title in Joe Robbie that year. After defeating Houston Buffalo went on the road and beat Pittsburgh in the Divisional round and then Miami. The Steelers were the 1 seed if I recall, so they would've hosted the Oilers and then probably Miami in the AFC Championship game. But Buffalo made all that irrelevant.
  14. EDIT Sorry...didn't mean to reply...
  15. There are a few schools that are like Notre Dame & don't really shy from anyone. I found it interesting that despite being labeled soft by most of the other BCS leagues, the Pac-10 had the lowest number of 1AA games scheduled. Look at USC...their non conference games the last few seasons. Maybe Hawaii wasn't the biggest test, but the Warriors have given many a BCS school problems on the island. 2006 at Arkansas vs. Nebraska vs. Notre Dame 2005 at Hawai'i vs Arkansas at Notre Dame vs. Fresno State 2004 vs. Virginia Tech NUETRAL SITE in Maryland vs Colorado State at BYU vs Notre Dame 2003 at Auburn vs BYU vs Hawaii at Notre Dame
  16. Musta given a helluva donation. As I linked earlier, MGS does have a whole Hall of fame section. You can also browse by year or sport(in addition to alpabetically). http://www.meangreensports.com/SportSelect...&SPSID=9494

  18. I didn't mention Rutgers. West Virginia beat a highly thought of Georgia team 2 seasons ago and Louisville finished in...like the top 6 or 7 last year after beating the ACC Champion Wake Forest last year.
  19. First off...how the Big East not a BCS league? Their champion has won their last 2 BCS games...The Sugar 2 years ago, and Orange last year. Secondly, Memphis is a basketball power, but they aren't UCONN. Connecticut has 2 national titles in the last 10 years. They've put numerous players into the pros. They're arguably the premiere program in college basketball right now(even over Florida because I'd argue they've been more consistent).
  20. That was always my favorite place in town....glad it's still top notch. I'd also recommend the Loophole if it's still open. And basically next doors you have Beth marie's for terrific ice cream. Bari's is a great hole in the wall for Italian nearer to campus. Man...I have some places I need to hit up next time I fly back.
