  1. Really getting a bit tired of people telling me how I should and should not enjoy a UNT home or away football game.

Bottom line...I had a great time...as I always do at Mean Green Games and I don't go there looking for something to complain about before or after the game. Especially not to complain about how folks like to watch the game after they actually buy tickets and get their rear ends into the stadium.

Saw several fans on the Alumni side so full of themselves that they stood near the front rows in the bowl for most of all the game while blocking the view of all those behind them...an sure those standing had a great time...not sure about the folks behind them....whatever floats your boat, but there is no right or wrong way to enjoy a football game...get over yourself and how about appreciating those who show up...lots of empty seats on both the student and alumni side last night.

I cant believe we are having this discussion again? The same point has once again been missed. Several of us (myself included) are some of those "full of themselves" Alums who stand during the games on the Alumni side. We deliberately pick seats as close to the field as possible so we do not block the views of people behind us, but that should not matter. The point made was that the energy and involvement from the student side of the stands influences the game. The student side was very much a part of it, and the Alumni side was not. Many of us, myself included, ARE a part of it from the Alumni side. We stand and scream and cheer, as many fans do in stadiums all over the country, and it not an attempt to be full of ourselves. We are doing what we have always done. We make the opposing teams feel the pressure of playing in our stadium. It's normally called HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE, and it seems to again be an issue on the Alumni side. Our own football players walk around the sidelines waving towels asking for the Alumni side fans to stand, but those of us who do are full of ourselves? Texas A&M fans (Alums and students) stand for the entire game..and it is a great tradition! I didnt graduate from A&M, I graduated from UNT. I am proud to wear my Mean Green Jersey while screamin from the Alumni side of the stands. If it really bothers some of you that much, ask the AD to let us buy our season tickets on the student side of the stadium and we will stand and cheer over there. Until I get that phone call, I will yell, scream, cheer, and be a part of the game right where my seats are now. Those of you who want to sit, please just sit. You paid for your tickets, just like I did. But dont ask us to sit because we will not. We are there for the players, and they dont have to wave towels to get us to stand up.

  2. Dunbar is having real trouble picking up blitzes. On the "Lunch Break" on Dallascowboys.com, the guys watched Dunbar's practices prior to his injury. They said he seems to be a "Sproles-like" player while carrying the ball. BUT, when the time came to pass protect and pick up blitzes, Lance really struggled. Most who saw it think the problem is his size. (5-8, 195lbs.). All so far think he will have to make the team as a kick returner or special teams ace. Not sure how he will do that if Felix Jones and Dez Bryant are the primary returners? Dunbar has quickness and he is elusive, but struggles too much in pass protection. I'm hoping LD has a stellar pre-season and makes it hard for the Boys to put him on the practice squad. Some other team would probably claim him. I want LD in Dallas.

Come on Lance..get healthy and secure your spot!

  3. As big as his challenges are this year (find a new RB, re-work the secondary, etc.) Coach Mac has to be the most positive coach in the conference. I hate to kick a dead horse, but I wonder what Todd Dodge's "minute" would have been like? I know what Darrell Dickey's minute would have been... "It's good to be back at work. We're gonna run a draw play or two this year with Jamario, let Awasome and Kennedy disrupt some offenses, and have a beer or two in New Orleans. See you all at the House of of Blues!"

  4. This year will not be easy. Dunbar is gone, most of our secondary graduated, Defensive line is a tad small.. I'm guessing 6 wins. In all honesty, I really am not that concerned with our last year in the Belt. I'm so freakin excited about our future in CUSA. I picked up an additional season ticket in our "New Section E" this year at Apogee. I wish we could just simulate this season like you can in NCAA12/PS3 football, and start our CUSA season at home with Tulane or UTEP. It should be noted that I have already put NT in CUSA (NCAA12/PS3) and we went 8-4. I had some defensive secondary trouble with Southern Miss, Rice, and Tulsa.. but we still got the Armed Forces Bowl.

    You gotta love EA Sports!

  5. Scott Hall just won...a lot...his leadership qualities on and off the field were special. I would put him up against any QB we ever had because he was able to win more consistently than any other QB in our history. Scott was not trying to pad stats -- he did what his coaches told him to do. It bothers me when people take away from what Scott did because it wasn't flashy and didn't run up big numbers. In the end, he was the engineer of the most successful run in football we have ever seen here and without question should be in the Hall of Fame.

I also would mention that Andrew Smith might have been one of the greatest ever had he not tragically died in that car accident. He led us to a bowl win against Cincy in his freshman year and was poised to do great things. I still point to Andrew's death as the catalyst for the Dickey era decline that sent the program into the Dodge abyss.

RIght on the nose Harry. I was there in Lubbock, as were many on this board, when Scott Hall replaced Bridges in the second half. Coach Dickey told me the following Monday that NT had no chance if Scott doesnt go into that game. We ended up losing on a fluke WR fumble, but Scott did his part. We were there to see the start of something special, and Scott should be in the NT Hall of Fame now.

  6. Great press conference by all. I like RV's enthusiasm, and his passion for the University. I also like the positive attitude of our new CUSA Chief. He was funny and upbeat, but also direct about the things North Texas has to offer. Thanks again RV (The flour) and everyone for this! I'm already planing more road trips.. we just have to get through one more season of the Belt.

    This will make that easier...

  7. Why pick on SMU today? Did I miss something? Anyway, I want...

    1. Fouts leveled. (We need the parking for the students who have to move their cars on gameday)

    2. Mean Green Walk INSIDE that gated area between the AC and the Stadium. (Let us escort them onto the field when they are suited up and ready to play)

    3. Beer at Apogee. (I'll take ANYTHING, but Bud Light if possible please)

    4. Another Garage sale at the end of the season, and GMG.com members get the first hour. (that last one was greatness, and we'll need to get rid of everything displaying the SunBelt Logo)

    5. Someone to teach those nitwits how to fire the freakin cannon RIGHT AFTER a score. (Firing the thing two or three minutes after the score just scares the hell out of everyone and makes us look foolish)

  8. Cant quite pin his level of sincerity, but it sounds more like sour grapes than appreciation. He is very confident, but I cant see TSU playing for a BCS Bowl anytime soon. He also mentioned the lower end football teams are leaving the Belt, so TSU will be in a league of better quality teams. Last I looked, ALL of the other teams in the Belt are improving. Even WKU is making strides. In his small bit of defense, TSU does have Coach Fran and Coach Dickey, and each had big league success. Confidence does come from within, but competing isnt the same thing as winning, ask Todd Dodge. Teis then made it sound like TSU is a victim of re-allignment? I have a problem with that one, and so should their fans and alums. The message he sends to them should be to SELL the SunBelt, not SETTLE for the SunBelt. He should also talk to his O.C. about making statements that could come back to bite him. My humble advice..

Shut it, and be thankful you arent stuck in the WAC.

  9. Forget the SOW.. time to think outside the box.

    1. White Helmet with a thermometer (green mercury) at 90% full. SBC at the Bottom, and CUSA at the top.

    2. Green Helmet - Eagle with a rubber glove on one hand. (it sends a subliminal message)

    3. Green Helmets - block white letters on the back of RB's and WR's - "If you can read this.. your coach is pissed". Defensive Helmets - "If you can read this..dont block me".

    Hope this helps?

My son Chris will also play again this year. This will be his last GMG.com Bowl before going into the Army, so I'm glad he gets to play in the new stadium. He's been a part of many of these over the years.
