  1. Impressed? It's 2 hires.

The most important hire is still to come.

Yes that's true, it's only two hires. I'm guessing you are referring to the fact that we do not have a DC yet? My take is this.. another great offensive mind is likely coming to Denton and will be very good with this coaching staff. That will make for 3 quality hires and some very exciting football. Wouldn't you say the coaches we just brought in are already better than anyone we've had in recent years? Of course I'm impressed, and we're clearly moving in a direction that promotes healing. I know RV gets the bulk of your negative posts here, but I think he's earned a +1 for this coaching hire. Perhaps I am a little premature with my enthusiasm, but that has to be allowed considering the tremendous glacier this program has hit? For the record, I blame RV for what has happened up to this point, so I must also give him credit for getting this coaching hire right. I think It's okay to be impressed by what has transpired so far. Time to put the banners and be-headings behind us. The sun is finally coming out.

  2. I'm very impressed with the coaching staff Coach Litrell is putting together. Could be very exciting football around here for a change! I know we still need to address the Defensive side of the ball, but this offense might just be what the doctor ordered. Now, would Gene Chizik come to work with his old coaching buddy? Gene runs a very good defensive scheme at Chappell Hill, has a National Title at Auburn, and is known for taking on projects. The only factor with Chiz is he's currently looking for a Head Coaching gig. If he doesnt find one, Litrell might pull a coup and steel him from the Heels. We can dream, right?

Count me in as looking forward to this exciting season.

  3. I would be spending a few "Quality" minutes with coaches in Katy, Aledo, and Allen. I would also look at game film for the OL's in Euless, the WR's at Southlake and make some personal phone calls. No time to slow down now, so full speed ahead coach!

  4. He seems to have the chops for a school in the mid-FBS spectrum. Sounds like Texas Tech dropped the ball on him? I like his enthusiasm but I also think we have one of these on the roster already. Isn't Demarcus Smith in this same relative story line? I realize he was a JUCO, but the same basic small school to big school story. Dakota Prukop could work out here in the spread, but I get the feeling our new ball coach will want to build a QB from the ground up. That usually means a Freshman or Sophmore. Who knows.. after what we have been through, ANYONE should be in the running here if they can play. Good article.

  5. Seems North Texas holds the same clout with All Conference selections as we do the invitees to the Senior Bowl. Look, we all know how bad the team was this year. No surprises here. Let's see what happens next season after a year of Litrell-guided missiles are fired all over the field. I suspect we are singing a completely different tune next year. As for this year, what's done is done. This season is gone, so forget it. Watch some bowl games, eat some Ham, and here comes Spring ball. I'm honestly looking forward to attending games again as we all have something to look forward to now.

The new start is underway, and I am DAMN glad the light at the end of the tunnel was the sun.. not an oncoming train.

  6. Darrell has surprisingly versatile in his time there at Memphis? He was certainly great to work with here for the things I needed from him. Always a class act with us, just ended badly with the Administration. Sometimes you have to know when to cut the cord, and I think DD knew it was time. Continued good luck Coach Dickey.. and THROW THE F'ing BALL!  Sorry, this is the last time I will have the opportunity to yell that.. Coach Dickey doesn't get discussed much on our board anymore.

  7. You know.........oh nevermind.

    http://www.dailylocal.com/sports/20150316/after-two-disappointing-seasons-flanigan-resigns-at-lincoln

Haha.. knew you would chime in. As RF is on the market again, let's bring him back as OC but ask that he pick on someone else in the stands this time. Of course Flanny would have to take the job first, and I cant see that happening after the wonderful words he had for his recent AD (Darrell Pope) prior to resigning this past year. A season with RV would send him right over the edge. This time lets have Emmitt yell "your're getting out coached!" as he runs off of the field post game. I say 3 seconds and Flanny is flying into the stands. At 10 seconds, Emmitt has beat him up, handcuffed him, and chastised him for his lousy 3rd down play calling. Might even make ESPN? Talk about reliving the past..

If Flannigan did come at you again I could coach you up this time.. "Body shots, Jim! He was a SMU QB, he cant take a hit!"

  8. Looks like a rivalry game, but it really isn't. I know Johnny Jones is on the hot seat in Big Louie.. maybe we can ask RV "nicely" to bring him back? No banners, no billboards, just trust him enough to bring back a coach that knows what he is doing?  Going to be a tough year with reclamation projects going on BOTH sides of the highway? Maybe the girls team will give us some hope.

  9. cheer up better things than dickys four years of winning the kiddy conference to those who wait patiently. The MEANGREEN will rise!

"Sing glory to the green. Sing glory to the white, for our university striving for the right. And through the cooridor of years we won't forget our joys and tears, at NorthTexas, NorthTexas, WE LOVE!!!"

Haha..thanks, that helps a little. The new Union is greatness, and that also helps a little. Glimmers of sunshine on an otherwise dismal season. Signing Coach Litrell will turn the tables for all of us! I cannot wait!

  10. Richt is a good fit for the U, and he does have history there. I am still shocked Georgia was dumb enough to part with a coach after 15 years and a ton of success? Maybe his message wasn't being heard by the players anymore? (sounds familiar) Miami's gain I guess. I would love it if a day ever comes where we could say the same thing in Denton.

"Why would North Texas let Coach Litrell go after 15 successful seasons? Chip Kelly is the craziest AD we have ever had!"

  11. I read here that some other players had talked about leaving when this season was over? Yes, this past season was embarrassing. I know recruiting will be tough for any coach the first year here, but the perception by players that this is a lost cause may be a bit misguided now? I certainly agree in the notion that "a player who doesn't want to be here shouldn't be here". I also think the wrong message was sent by the outgoing coaching staff, and players should wait to see if the new staff gives them hope. I am very on board with hiring Coach Litrell. (That is If we actually can sign Coach Litrell?) I hope the players hear him out before bailing out.

I am no fortune teller, but it's nice to have some hope for a change.

  12. After seeing film and studying tendencies, Memphis' next opponent will be caught flatfooted by a draw on third and 9!

It will make me nostalgic for cries of "Throw the f'n ball, Dickey!".

I was certainly one who yelled that at him, and I liked Coach Dickey. He was always a class act with me and helped a LOT with the Gomeangreen.com flag football games. He really did want to be a part of that stuff, and also wanted us to be a part of his program. Ah, the good old days. While I was watching Memphis beat the crap out of SMU Saturday, I found myself thinking DD should be leaving RV phone messages.. "Hello Rick?, yeah this is Darrell again. We have a job opening for concession manager, but you'll have to apply quick. Some M'Fer offered that same job to Norm Chow".

  13. I think being a realists can hurt. We all want a new head coach to come in and recruit more talented players, setup an offensive system that scores 40 points a game, and makes teams like Baylor and TCU want to come to Denton to play us every year. Unfortunately, the reality of it is this.. a "Recruiter of the Year" awarded coach who could setup an attractive offensive system, score a lot of points per game, and develop QB's and WR's has already been sacked from the list of candidates. Emmitt is probably right on both statements, and may be a bit of a psychic. We will be behind on recruiting as timing is everything, and we will apparently not have the coach who does that job best. I also have a gut feeling that a "re-tread" coach may be coming as RV seems to be looking for someone predictable. For the record, I attend all of my PDC's (Professional Development Courses) and Symposiums at SMU. I go to occasional SMU games and practices with friends and family. I am not a SMU fan as much as a college football fan. Still, the obvious is what it is. They have an AD that works hard and cares about the fans, (all 100 of them) a new head coach that is fired up and recruits well, and SMU wants all of us to be there. Their fan base is not half as devoted as the North Texas fans and Alums, but they are bringing people in by making them a part of everything. North Texas used to do that, but not so much today. I lay that on the feet of the AD. RV is gambling with more than money now and he must know that.

No news-flash here, but I believe RV makes or breaks the fan base with this hire, me included.

  14. It's likely Briles, I assume.  It's gonna be a new era sans the AD.  I'm excited about that.

I truly hope you are right about that! Briles could do more for North Texas in two years than others have done in the past ten. Could make for an interesting recruiting year also? If Kendall Briles is announced as the new North Texas Head Coach, My faith in RV may be partially restored. One step at time though. RV...HIRE THE MAN!

  15. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000584425/article/prospects-who-have-accepted-invites-to-2016-senior-bowl

My problem with this is not just that there are no North Texas players listed, but that Samford, North Dakota State, and SE Louisiana have players going. Have we really fallen so far that NO North Texas Senior Footballers are good enough for the Senior Bowl? If this was Jeopardy, I'd pick "Schools with Image Problems " for $1000 Alex.

Go.. Mean... ahhh, to hell with it.

  16. I like the idea of 100 bowl games. Gives fans like myself a bit longer to watch college football. I do think bowl eligible teams should be 500 or better, but that would have kept North Texas from our bowl in 2001. Those were great trips to New Orleans! Last year I remember watching Ark State play Toledo in some small bowl somewhere. I watched because Ark State used to be among us but appeared to have passed us by? Let all of the bowls stay where they are for now, or at least until we get our act together.
