  1. I am not a huge soccer fan. But, I think the Promotion/Relegation model used in the UK is one of the coolest things in sports worldwide.
  2. When it was 41-3, ULL switch to the 3-3-5 on defense just for fun 😉
  3. Why don't they just go ahead and buy an NFL team if they want to throw away so much money ? It would be a better investment. The big money SMU alums are helping to ruin college football by making it all about $$$. The NIL and transfer portal was a wet dream come true for SMU.
  4. Cal is a much better team this year with all the transfers IMO. They damn near beat Auburn last weekend (blown 4th quarter lead). No excuse for getting curb stomped by them and then losing to FIU though. And, I do agree with everything you said.
  5. Awful timing. First year in the American and we are about to appear in the Bottom 10 and will probably stay there all season.
  6. No excuse today for the defense today. This is not a good offense. And just as I type that, FIU gets a long pass 😞
  7. We had better win this game, because FIU is bottom 10 material for sure. They played La Tech close, but were actually dominated statistically in week 1. The talent level disparity won't be an issue this week against FIU. I think that will allow the defense to settle in and play better. I expect the running game to pick it up, which will allow the passing game to open up late. With 50 transfers, Cal may be better than expected this year (possible lower bowl team). I actually expected a loss last week, but certainly did not expect that horrible performance. I think our guys are pissed and bounce back this week. 34-20 NT
  8. I was hoping their FB team would look as bad as the crowd. But, they are killing La Tech.
  9. 5-7 I think we will be good at QB and RB. Shorter was a damn good WR and he will be missed, even though there is some depth. I have absolutely no idea how the defense will perform. That is my big concern.
  10. Oregon State has come along way from those horrible teams of the 70's, 80's and 90's. They were the one major program that the 1AA guys really had a chance to beat up on. Correct me if I am wrong. But, I think we beat Oregon State the first year we moved up from 1AA (mid 90's). We were terrible, but they were worse. I remember the game at Fouts.
  11. Riding on UT's coat tail for Big 12 money allowed Baylor to eventually thrive (despite the illegal activities). If they would have been left out of the Big 12 when the SWC folded, their athletic programs would be nowhere near what they are today. Baylor would be just like SMU without the Big 12. I also suspect that with OU and UT leaving, Baylor's success will eventually take a hit. Vanderbilt has caused their own issues, despite the SEC money.
  12. I am trying not to get too excited. But, the pros and cons I have heard from most "experts" would seem to indicate that the AAC is in the best position to add or somehow merge with the Pac 4. That ESPN contact that Aresco already has in place could be huge, especially if it gets adjusted to pay the PAC 4 teams more initially (15mil/year). Pac expansion - No good media deal in place to expand and draw in other schools. Big 10 - Stanford would love this. But, this option seems to be dead right now. ACC expansion - Talk seems dead. But, could flare up again. MWC expansion - Media contract is not as good as AAC to add PAC 4. Stanford not interested. PAC adding from MWC/AAC - Exit fees too much to move to a PAC with no good media deal in place. AAC/PAC merger - Seems like the best option by default. 18 teams, 9 in west zone. Private schools in west to keep Stanford happy. Stable media deal (flexible ?) at least in place. Stanford seems to be the key player here. SMU could also do something stupid just to get out of the AAC. regardless of whether or not it is the right decision for them long term. I just hope this gets resolved fairly quickly. The realignment talk is really taking away from the coming football season for me. This could be a HUGE boost for UNT if the PAC-4 joins the AAC. Or, it could send us back to a CUSA similar situation. I think we will be good as long as Aresco stays with the AAC (heard some possible retirement talk ?). Just my thoughts based on what I have heard/read online. No facts to back it up.
  13. I feel pretty good about our offense being adequate and trust our QB room (although the loss of Shorter still concerns me). Very concerned about the defense this year. I hope that I am wrong.
  14. With all this realignment talk again, its getting difficult to focus on the upcoming season. The decision made by the Pac-4 schools is potentially going to have a huge impact on NT/AAC. SMU can do whatever they want and I don't care. But, I don't want to lose any of the other current AAC schools.
  15. All I know is that I am glad Aresco is our commissioner right now. He is one aggressive dude.
  16. IMO, the loss of Jyaire Shorter is going to hurt in particular. That guy was a beast for us and clearly the best WR. He was the ONE guy that I didn't want to see hit the portal.
  17. FWIW, I no longer consider the Pac-12 much of a power conference (When USC and UCLA leave). When Texas and OU leave the Big 12, they will be in a similar situation. IMO, there is a real opportunity for the AAC to close the gap on the future Pac-12, Big 12 and maybe even the ACC.
  18. I know that Tylor was amazing for us at NT. But, his offer list is more impressive than I even expected. I think the NIT championship and national exposure had a lot to do with it. I hate the transfer portal and wish we could have him for 1 more year. But, this kid deserves everything good that is coming to him IMO. I hope there is a day when players don't see NT basketball as the 2nd step from the top of the ladder. But, the program has made so much progress. Alabama Arkansas Louisville Ole Miss Florida Baylor Oklahoma State Texas Tech https://www.si.com/college/louisville/basketball/tylor-perry-top-eight PS-Not sure why he would want to spend his last year at Louisville, when they were 4-28. I bet Tylor ends up at a school that is supposed to compete for a national championship next year (Bama ?).
  19. This is THE hire that is going to keep us relevant as a mid major power. Book it !
  20. I have faith in Ross Hodge. It's the next best thing that could happen to us right now.
  21. Thank you coach ! He appears to be leaving us in good shape, if he doesn't purge our roster 😉 I don't know who Matt Norlander is, but.... "News: North Texas beats UAB and wins the NIT. Next up: Mean Green coach Grant McCasland will be leaving UNT to accept a six-year, $18 million deal to coach Texas Tech, sources told CBS Sports. More: UNT will promote associate HC Ross Hodge to replace McCasland, sources said."
  22. Exactly. Who is to say whether or not taking points off the board changes the intensity. You can't do that.
