  1. Given that Leach is engaged in a lawsuit with a state entity and we are a state entity, I have doubts that we could hire Leach.

I don't think this is getting through people's skulls... similar to the "30 days" rumor that has been debunked about 100 times on here, yet it keeps coming up.

Forget about Leach while he is engaged in his lawsuit folks. If it ends tomorrow, then great, let's talk to him! But I don't want to wait around for him.

  2. Starts in just over 2 hours.

    YANKEEDOUCHE.gif

I loved this douche-baggery. You know, I guess I've never really paid much attention to yankee games at Yankee Stadium, but I always thought that the fans at the ballpark in Arlington that boo when the opposing pitcher checks a runner at first base with a slow throw were just dumb Dallas fans that didn't follow the game. Then I heard even more boos from the yankee faithful. Then, there was the robbery of THEIR OWN PLAYER off the first base side later in the game. I don't doubt that they are educated in winning baseball, but wow they are stupid fans.

  3. Sucks that Dodge ball didnt work, but high school football is not the same as college football. Good luck to you coach dodge, you will dominate the high school ranks again im sure. I respect you for how much class you showed during your tenure here. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

He's done with High School football. I echo the sentiments of most on this board...Best of luck to coach Dodge. Thanks for trying and I hope you can take what you've learned here at UNT and use it in your future endeavors. This was the best move for both parties I think.

Now Canales is the man, so most of you clammoring to see this will get your wish. I don't want to hear any of the injury excuses for coach Canales that were rebuffed for Dodge. Coach Canales, make lemonade. If not, you're out of here too.

  4. If he was a great football mind he wouldn't be 6-37 with being in the worst football conference in FBS. He is just a failure in all levels of being a college football coach.

Have you ever seen a 12 year old kid playing little league and he/she is so good that your eyes instantly find them on the field? (I ask because I coached little league soccer and have a few girls playing division 1 soccer right now)

What happens when you take this stud 12 year old, and put them on the High School Varsity team? They look completely overmatched. Eventually, they will grow and learn, and when they're 16-17, they'll be the best on that varsity team and your eyes will be drawn to their ability again.

I really think that Dodge is going to get a shot as a QB coach at an AQ school, or an O-coordinator at some other school (maybe starting in FCS or lower) and work his way back up to being a FBS head coach again (10 years or so). When he does, he'll be good.

  5. What would Dodge otherwise say? He's not saying anything out of the ordinary. It is just generic speak if you ask me.

I completely understand how you can see that.

It's not like he would come out and say, "Eff these losers, I can't wait to get out of this dump! Thanks for the cash suckers! Peace!" He has never demonstrated that attitude. EVER.

Then there's the coach speak... I do think there's some of that in there simply because he probably shouldn't be completely candid with how he is feeling right now.

However, I really do think he MEANS what he is saying, and that's why he has all kinds of respect from people (myself included), and well wishes for his future.

Nice guy? Absolutely. Good coach? Not yet.

I really do think he'll be a good coach one day. Probably division 1 caliber, but that time is not now. The University of North Texas paid a steep price for his learning curve. So I would expect no bitterness from him at all. I think he recognizes the situation just like we do. I bet if he had it to do over again, he would have this coaching staff assembled in 2007.

  6. I understand what you are saying but you are comparing RV to Helwig, probably the worst AD in the history of mankind. When RV got here there was no tailgating, probably the only school in the nation that didn't have tailgating. So coming in and setting up some type of tailgating wasn't a spectacular feat, it was doing what all the other schools had already been doing. I agree that RV has done a good job here but you have to look at who he is compared to. The stadium fee had very little to do with RV, the female facilities, again they are a lot nicer than they were but look at what was here. Also, besides the tennis facility, the other female facilities are probably on par with the rest of the belt. He has had 1 good coaching hire in JJ and the rest have been nothing to write home about.

Ugh. I don't understand why anyone would want to drag RV into the football mess and ignore his other contributions. Are you serious when you say that he has not hired any good coaches but JJ? Do you pay attention to the non-revenue sports at all? Within the past few years: Coach Hubbard, Coach Lama, Coach Stracke, Coach Murczek: all of these coaches are transforming (or have already transformed) their repsective programs into National contenders.

Look at it this way. A girl weighs 450 lbs and goes on a diet. She loses 150lbs (which is very impressive and quite an accomplishment) but she still weighs 300lbs. Is she a lot better (healthier) than before? yes she sure is. Is she going to win a fitness or health contest? Not a chance.

Helwig = 450 lb girl (bad)

RV = 300 lb girl (not quite as bad)

I got on campus during Helwig's last year here. Your 450 lb girl comparison is spot on. Athletics were a mere afterthought, and school pride in athletics was almost dead.

Rick Villareal is more like a Victoria's Secret model compared to Helwig.

  7. Actually you can, weight training immensely improves bone density. I figured you would have known that.

I'm pretty sure we can look at the weight gain of just about every single player over last offseason as some serious weight training going on. However, if they're doing it right or not is a legitimate question that I don't think anyone on here has a qualified answer for.

To answer the thread title: if a coaching change is made, YES. No piece-mealing this thing (unless of course, the new coach choses to keep some of the old staff)

  8. I am looking at the record over the last 3 - 4 years and I too see a losing record. I also see a Head Coach who made changes along the way, brought in college coaches, gave up his OC duties, brought in JC players, a coach who has done everything to correct the wrong over the last 3 - years is what I ALSO SEE. I also see a man who is exactly what this university needs heading into a new stadium. One who still can recruit some of the best available Texas talent out there, one who believes in his players, one who teaches them more than football. What I see is people giving up on someone just because they had a terrible win record over the past 3 years and they don't SEE all the changes and moves made to correct the problems. The moves and changes have been made, this team would have proven it if the injuries had not happened. Again, everything anyone can think oh this coaching staff has corrected.

Mr. Mosley, you probably have a heftier say on the impending decision than any of us here do. If you feel this way about coach Dodge, be sure to voice your opinion to Rick V. All he is hearing from the fan base, and for good reason, is how coach Dodge is not getting it done.

As for the bolded statement above, I agree that the coaching STAFF appears to be corrected, however, we're still seeing some goofy head coaching decisions by coach Dodge himself. I don't profess to be a football coach, but going back to last week, after a timeout (due to injury I think) late in the game to draw up a long pass play, with a chance to take our first lead, Baine completes a big pass. However, shouldn't they expect that play to work and call another play during the same timeout, that way they are ready and can hurry up? Instead, another timeout was taken to draw up the next play. We went backwards for the remainder of that drive.

How 'bout the defense holding them in the closing seconds only to have precious seconds wasted off of the clock because timeouts were not taken at the right time? Unless the offensive or defensive players see something they don't like, timeouts are head coach decisions... Let's not go back to the 2 timeout disaster in last years Army game.

  9. Fran had trouble recruiting at A&M, do you really think he could recruit at UNT ?

I don't think he had a hard time at all. Their best players right now are Fran recruits (Von Miller & Jerrod Johnson among others), and a vast majority of their 2008 class were committed long before Fran left College Station.

He could work wonders here. Unless Dodge works a wonder for himself.

  10. I'm absolutely interested in a Mini Plan and will contact the AD to inquire about the packages. If there's a way I can bundle up several games early in the season, I would probably buy in. With a little one on the way in Dec., I don't think there's going to be time for games past the semester break.

  11. WE JUST GOT THE LAST OF 30 SOME ODD, POOR AND PROBABLY EXPLOITED LABORERS OUT OF A SPACE THE SIZE OF A '78 BUICK SKYLARK AND YOU PEOPLE ARE UPSET THAT AMERICA ISN'T BASKING IN THE LIMELIGHT?

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

Show a bit of humility, please. We do it because its what we do and its right...not for the fame, glory, notoriety, respect, recognition or any other accolades.

    Good Lord.

What do you think about that Mr. Washington?

    "dey did what dey do."

  12. I'm making it for a weekday game against UTA but no other weekday game. What of it?

What? Do they close I-95, I-78, I-81, I-40, and I-30, where you are for games other than UTA? You're NOT excused.

just having some fun with you KRAM1
