  1. Another possibility would be for the ever versatile Chase Baine to move back to WR where he once played. However, I like him as Thompson's backup.....followed by Dodson.

Do you just not like Brett Osborn?

Or, did you just forget we brought him in? He's challenging for the starting job, and if he's not the starter will certainly be the backup.

  2. Just curious... does anyone have any inside info regarding season ticket sales so far- or at least what the dept. is hoping to achieve by the beginning of the season? I secured my 2 seats a couple of days ago, but am not proud to admit that I have not been to Fouts field since I graduated back in 88! I am just curious as to the number of season ticket holders UNT had in previous years, compared to what this new season will bring with a new coach and stadium. Please tell me that at least the opening Houston game will be an anticipated sellout!

There has to be a tremendous number of alumni like myself still living in the DFW area that have just been patiently waiting for this miraculous day for the program to arrive. I am beyond excited for this season to begin. I will turn 50 this year and really thought I would never see this stadium become a reality in my lifetime. I have spent almost 25 years dealing with friends and family members who attended Tech, TCU, Texas, A&M, etc and endured their football bragging rights, season after season. I never understood that UNT continues to be such a great University, great facilities, location, etc. but did not get the support and coverage of other places. I got back in touch with the UNT program within the last few Dodge years and at least started listening on the radio and scouring the tv listings for coverage now and then. I watched Dan McCarney's entire press conference online and was so amped up, I wrote a letter of support to the North Texan that appeared in the last issue. I am trying to keep my level of hope down to a reasonable level, since I know this could no doubt take several years to really take shape- but I plan on being there for every game lending my support regardless!

Hopefully there are at least another 1K alumns out there just like you. Welcome aboard!

  3. I agree with Harry on Defense. Orr stepped right in last year as a freshman and made things happen. He'll only get better, and I look forward to talking about him in the future like we talk about Spencer,Hurd,Kassell.

On offense, the obvious choice is Dunbar, but I also look for Darius Carey to step into a leadership role as well and carry that role into 2012 after Lance is gone.

  4. Rivals profile

    ESPN profile

I hate to be that guy that cites a facebook post, but he says he's on his way to UNT this year. If so, he'll be another great DB addition along with Swarn & Warner. I don't recall hearing about him signing, and looked through the archives, but did not find any threads on him. Maybe this is old news for some of y'all... if so, sorry for the duplicate post.

  5. The women's teams aren't referred to as the Lady Eagles any more. They are referred to as the Mean Green just like the men's teams. Here is an example from meangreensports.com.

This makes sense. Why have different names for mens & women's teams? "Mean Green" seems pretty ubiquitous to me. As long as Scrappy is around, we'll be represented by an eagle. Mean Green Eagles!

There are a few things to piss, moan, & complain about with our traditions, but this should not be one.

  6. Right, it was used as a rep for confederate regiments in Texas, and had a good history behind it. I guess my point is, if your from Texas and want to take some kind of pride in being Texan and want to show your southern pride, what's wrong with the Lone Star Flag. Why would anyone in Texas want to fly the Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia...ie "The Rebel Flag"?

    Rick

    Skynard, man. Skynard.

I'm certainly proud to be from the south, and very proud to be from Texas. I had several distant relatives fight/die for the Confederacy (Gen. A.S. Johnston @ Shiloh among others), and I'm proud of them too.

All that said, I couldn't justify flying the rebel flag, or even having it on a license plate because of what it has come to mean today. Today, it's equated with white-supremecy, ignorance, and hate (and toothlessness).

  7. Chad Ford's top 100 players for the 2012 Draft is out on ESPNinsider. Tony Mitchell is rated number 64. This makes me happy. Next years draft is going to be stacked, I'd love to see Tony at UNT for 2 seasons.

This can change if he has a great U-19 Championships tourney. Time will tell.

  8. well their clues were dumb then lol...becuase they said it had green in it...lol

The answer is there if you connect the dots.

What are all pirates looking for? Booty? No. That's what the government tells you they're looking for.

Pirates are acutally looking to get off of their boats so they can buy storage shelters and stockpile them full of canned vegetables and bottled water to avoid the impending 2nd Great Depression.

So, they look for trees and grass, which happen to be... that's right, green.

    Savvy?

  9. Great for Tony!

The U.S. should go very far in this thing and that will give Tony plenty of reps against some of the best competition out there.

Glad he made it. He may have been rusty in December without this tournament to keep him sharp. Playing in the rec can only do so much for your game (virtually nothing for his game).

  10. Well, I mean, nothing is illegal until you get caught. Rape laws, in theory, are nothing but feel good laws by you definition if you have a good disguise or a secluded place for the body.

Give me one circumstance where NOT having this law could be a GOOD thing? Yes...it is a difficult, if not impossible thing to enforce, but the illusion the law creates is enough to help keep people safe...same goes for seatbelt laws, speed limits. Flawless? Certainly not...but practical to have on the books and completely pointless to veto.

BTW, in Connecticut it is illegal to use one's cell phone while driving...and other neighboring states...New York, Massachusetts...have laws against texting and what's called "distracted driving." Again, is it difficult to enforce? Of course...but I promise you on the rare occasions I talk on my phone in my car I am very aware of whether or not a trooper or local officer is in the vicinity. These are effective deterrents.

...which, in turn, would keep you more focused on the road as well. I totally agree with this sentiment.

  11. I remember RV saying the new stadium would feature a store dedicated to North Texas gear. Has anyone heard anymore about it? Will it be open by the first game?

Yes, there will be a team store and it will be pretty nice. On the North side of the home concourse. I would assume it will be ready to go by the 1st game?

  12. I noticed yesterday on my daily stadium drive-by/commute that the turf was going in...

I'm talking about the turf OUTSIDE of the stadium. A sure sign of imminent completion of the project. I'd say we have 3, maybe 4 weeks tops before the stadium is completely turned over to the university.

I have to say that through it all, I am excited about our future at UNT. As I finish my Master's degree and become a full-time alumnus I will be able to fully enjoy the status of "former" student.

I want to thank the following people for making this stadium happen:

Gretchen Bataille, Todd Dodge, Joe Greene, Rick Villarreal, the entire AD staff, and...

The students of North Texas for approving the athletic fee. I think when we get 10 years down the road, we are going to fully realize how this one little student referendum changed the entire landscape of college football in the DFW area (hell. maybe even the whole state of Texas!)

Give yourself a pat on the back too there sir.

No one knows what would have happened if you did not become as engaged as you were in the effort. We'd probably be stuck in Fouts Field FOREVER.
