I have edited my original post in this thread to be more optimistic, so as not to hijack the original topic. Please see below:
*******************************************************************
"I'm good with it. QB is indeed...in good hands... I'll also mention that arguably the team's best receiver is...on the team, the OL...a couple of stout players, and DT does...have Riley's wheels...his knowledge of this offense...the final point...
The leading tackler is...on D. Pass rush and run defense...huge...areas...over...3-4 wins per season.
I'm...sold on the defensive improvement...I am...optimistic.
Special teams should be improved...believe...I see it.
At any rate, I'm going out on a limb and saying they'll get...6 this year due to...Dunbar...
I see 6-7 wins is if the team can play defense, use their special teams well and play more ball-control. WR's will...step up. It's going to hinge on the QB, WR's, DL and the LB's this year IMO."
That's what I'm talkin about!! Pass the Kool-aid!

Okay. I'm good with it. I will counter that by saying that QB is indeed a question mark, but the MG appear to be in good hands there. But I'll also mentioned that arguably the team's best receiver is no longer on the team, the OL graduated a couple of stout players, and DT does not have Riley's wheels, nor his knowledge of this offense, although the final point is probably moot.
The leading tackler is gone on D. Pass rush and run defense is still a huge question mark and are two areas that over the last 3 years probably cost this team 3-4 wins per season. I'm not sold on the defensive improvement at all, although I am cautiously optimistic.
Special teams should be improved, but that's been knocked around for the last 2 years. Again, believe when I see it. This area cost the MG dearly in the last 2 seasons.
At any rate, I'm going out on a limb and saying they'll get to 4. Just don't see 6 this year due to (mainly) defensive issues and Dunbar having to carry more than his share of the load. Would LOVE to be wrong.
The only way I see 6-7 wins is if the team can play defense, use their special teams well and play more ball-control. WR's will have to step up. It's going to hinge on the QB, WR's, DL and the LB's this year IMO. Those areas are all huge question marks in my mind.
Ummm... the thread title is "Reasons for Optimism". Not "Reasons for Negativity"! Take your negative vibes to the Eagles Nest forum! We're BCS Bowl bound!

I'll be disappointed if JQ does not come out to accept his induction at Mean Green Stadium this fall pushing a bobsled at breakneck speed. Supposedly, the turf at the new stadium is so awesome, JQ should be able to set a non-ice bobsled speed record.
Way to go Johnny! You deserve it!
*Edit* - And yes, my avatar says it all... No O-line could deny him, and neither can this Athletic Dept. Put Booger in the HOF!

I was hoping to see Kenny Lyons in this class, also. Maybe there wasn't enough time to get him nominated since his graduation. If not, I hope he goes in next year. He deserves it.
Kenny Lyons went into the HOF a long time ago. Class of 1993

Holland is exactly right. Nothing tells the players, "Hey, y'all are boring, so we need to create our own entertainment!" better than the wave.
Look folks, the wave is for kids under 10 or adults with short attention spans. If you're so bored at the baseball game, then you need to go to chuck-e-cheese next time. Let the rest of us watch and appreciate the guys who are playing the game.

I was kinda hoping it was regarding Boone Pickens...

I think this being announced on August 15th, same day as single game ticket sales begin, is too much of a coincidence for it not to be related to Mean Green Stadium.
That said, even if it turns out to be money exclusive to the music school, I don't know how anyone can complain.
It's all there, you just have to use the internet to connect the dots.

Name coach?
Proven track record of success?
I think the answer was obvious all along... Zombie Dangerfield.
We need a coach that will not cut corners to achieve success. I'd rather lose to Mexico with a clean program than to beat them with a bunch of cross-dressers.
What do you think USA Soccer is? The 80's Miami Hurricanes?
Just say NO to Zombie Dangerfield!

I heard it last week from "the horses mouth" in the Football offices. Let's hope he shows up; to be honest I am a little concerned with the Center position after this season.
I liked how Leppo played last year in relief of Johnson for a few games, so I went to see how much longer we have him... He showed as a RS Freshman last year, but this year he does not appear on the roster. Is he gone? If so, then I am also concerned with Center next year (as well as this year's depth).

So you're tellin' me there won't be any electricity for the first game ?
No, but plenty of endangered birds will be there!

Maybe we should just let the band play the anthem, no one would ever complain about the band...
You mean the "Green quiet-gade"? Ugh. They would just infuse "fly like an eagle" into it and ruin everything.

Robert Gates??? This is the best our university can do?
What about Robert Plant? Or at least, Norah Jones? Someone the kids have heard of, for crying out loud.
I bet Robert Gates flubs the National Anthem Carl Lewis style.
"Ooooooh...and the Rockets, re-uhd Gler. Uh oh..."

I hope they don't boo during the national anthem
If they do, it will be because they don't like / don't know Don Henley.

Appreciate the ink and the rating is not bad but lots of questionable opinions. Williams is a very good recruit but he is not even the best in this year's class that would have to be Mitchell. I will be surprised if either Walton or Stojilkovic ever start particularly after the first few games. Jones will be the staring point guard. I would not be surprised if NT ends up with 4 freshmen starting including Mitchell and transfer Franklin could be the fifth starter.
This is going to be an exciting year as nothing has been decided. Mitchell will start quickly after he becomes eligible but I see a real battle for the other four spots.
I think he's spot-on. Remember, Mitchell was not a 2011 recruit for us. He is a transfer. Out of all of our 2011 recruits, Williams is the most heralded.
I'll bet Kedrick is a lock to start as long as he's healthy.

Thanks for sharing.
You seem to be pretty high on Brandan Walton. To be honest, I haven't heard much about him other than he likes to shoot the 3. I think JJ will have a hard time deciding who starts at the 2. Alzee may take that spot, unless Johnny has plans for him to be like Dom and play combo off the bench.

I love conference re-alignment talk. It's what keeps me coming back day after day.

Why do we hate Beebe again? Why do we care?
Because the idiot has not invited us into the big 12 yet, that's why!

Go eff yourself.
Thanks.
I dunno man, I just think Dan Beebe is...

So on Sept. 10 Fouts slips into the history books as our former football stadium. With that said will it, at the same time, enter the books as the largest (capacity) exclusive track and field venue on any college campus in America?
I think I'd position it as such.
We should experience a recruiting boon for our T&F teams because of this awesome facility.
I mean, the sight-lines for the track events... it's like you're right on top of the action!

But it will make news if we lose.
A no-win proposition for this program at this point in time. No FCS opponents for at least 5 years.
The only FCS team we'll be playing is TSU. The USA game will be a conference game similar to when WKU moved up. I think we'll be fine in both of these games and I actually look forward to NOT being the punching bag for once.

Seriously, people.
He is a music legend that is going to sing the national anthem. It's not like he is putting on a half time show. This is a very good thing for UNT athletics.
I would guess that we have not heard all of the special things planned for opening day of the new stadium.
I agree.
And, unless they have previous engagements (which I would assume they would attempt to reschedule if they can), I would be shocked if Ely-Young were not a part of this day.
