  1. I'm not in a frat. I use stainless steel silverware. I don't own any Abercrombie. I drive a VW. I worked today actually. I wasn't privileged growing up. I damn sure not an elitist. You get no respect because you make stupid generalizations like that. Respect is to be earned, not given freely. Learn it.
  2. I was talking about when they interviewed the students from both campuses. I challenge you to find these "well-known" historical quotes and any allegiance Gerald Ford would have to La Tech. Or for that matter, any substantial proof that SMU singlehandedly kept UNT out of any conference. Why would UNT being successful be bad for either SMU or TCU? Is TCU's success bad for either SMU or UNT? No. Wouldn't be any different if it were the other way around. I don't want to get into an argument over banter because for the most part it's funny, but you'd be hard pressed to find ANY SMU student wearing red pants. But I suppose if you like the red pants "joke" and think it's funny, then by all means go ahead and laugh away.
  3. There's a video on the WFAA story on the SMU-UNT story from earlier this year. Shows the difference in opinion between the two campuses. Some of you guys are just childish. Blaming us for UNT not getting an invite into C-USA? Making fun of clothes? That's pretty weak sauce.
  4. Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Those affiliated with SMU contract a phobia of all people of non-Caucasian lineage. As for Fran, please God, no.
  5. Good Ol' Boy => Johnny Reb => Icon of Solid South in the late 19th and early 20th centuries => Era of Jim Crow laws (separate but equal facilities) I could have made that connection after reading about the Civil Rights Movement all night, but that's how it came across to me.
  6. Umm... I guess you're entitled to your opinion. I will admit that I don't know precisely what a "cost-benefit analysis" (though I'm sure I have some sort of idea, not being a business major it's not horribly important in my studies at the moment) , but I would presume I can differentiate between it and chicken salad. First, most SMU students receive financial aid (from the university itself, external scholarships, or the government), so that offsets, even if only slightly, the ever-increasing tuition costs. Regardless, there are many uppity, rich people that attend. As for partying all the time and classes being easy, that's a trait present at every college. Some people party too much and fail out of classes, some don't party very much and do well. That's the way college is. Some majors allow for lots of extracurricular activities and free time to do whatever, some don't. No need to generalize the entire student body off one person's experience. As I said before, you're entitled to your opinion. Though I will admit that "Good Ol' Boys' Club" is too reminiscent of the Jim Crow era and is rather offensive and stereotypical for my tastes. Then again, what fun would the world be without a generic stereotypical joke, even if it's offensive?
  7. Pathetic posters is a bit harsh, don't ya think? No one is crying about anything, especially harsh words from a college football forum. If anyone is, then I suggest they take a long hiatus from their computer and get a grip, maybe take a vacation. Poneez stated that SMU has more to lose, not that SMU is better and UNT is worse. Now we can all moan and groan about socioeconomic differences until either of us get invited to the Big XII (never), use the always colorful stereotypes and equal animosity to further divide SMU and UNT from one another (though I highly encourage banter, very amusing), and disrespect one another for one reason or another, or we can invite this banter, embrace the growing rivalry (yes, I said rivalry), and get over what perceptions and prejudices you happened to have developed through antiquity. By the way, you have yet to welcome civil discussion (disrespect and misplaced stereotypes go a long way to destroying civil discussion), so I suggest you don't jump into that arena just quite yet. That's just not nice to say we will only win 4 games all year. We both know that we improved vastly AFTER the UNT game last year, what's to stop us from making the same improvements throughout this year. We have 3 new guys on the DL that need to acclimated to collegiate football and a secondary that (to say the least) played a pitiful 3 quarters on Saturday. (I would include the fourth quarter, but they stepped it up when the game was on the line. I also expect the secondary to work quite hard this week, as I would assume that is will be a focal point of practices this week.) If we do only win 4 games all year, I guess we'll start anew with a new coach and system (which I would hate to see, but as I have high aspirations for SMU, I would welcome any change that would bring relevancy back to the Hilltop). Oh, and I'm glad you don't think SMU and UNT will be playing for awhile since you don't think we'll win for quite some time. And just because I got so tired of hearing it over and over like a broken record. 45-31.
  8. It's not elitism. It's the general perception (e.g. what the nation, as well as the DFW area) of a university's program. No one is saying we have the credibility of UT, A&M, or Tech, but it doesn't help our cause to increase success if we lose to a bad UNT team. (Yes I said bad, because it is bad when you gain over 600 yards and still lose.) Now on that note, I'd like to say I want the series to continue because you guys offer an interesting combination of financial opportunities and local attention to SMU football in a way that playing USM, UCF, and Memphis can't. Disliked by who? UNT? You seem to have this belief that the Dallas area is anti-SMU, which is just wrong. Sadly, it's mainly apathetic except in close proximity to the university. We win, people get behind the team. That's just the way Dallas fans are. If you like thinking all of SMU is pastel polos and khakis, Burberry and Gucci, BMW and Lexus, making everyone an uppity, nose turned up snob then go right ahead. There's not a need for Poneez to apologize, in my opinion. You guys need to lay off and chill out.
  9. All the seats have backs. You don't need stadium chairs.
  10. Not that field, no. It's around Westcott Field (the soccer field).
  11. FYI - Vinny Chase (who is a TE) didn't graduate. Bobby Chase did (I assume that's who you meant emmitt). Emmanuel Sanders (WR) is a stud and will continue to be a playmaker on the offense like last year. Demyron Martin (hopefully he doesn't get injured again) has revamped his mindset to that of his freshman year where he led us to upset TCU. He also only played in the first quarter against UNT because he broke his foot. Justin Willis is the watchlists for two national QB awards and rewrote many of the SMU QB records, surely you don't think he is overrated. Justin was nervous and hadn't adjusted to the pace of college ball by the time of the UNT game last year, plus PB hadn't opened the entire playbook up then. Also last year, we were rotating two QBs (both Willis and Slater) to find a starter and that will not be an issue this year. The OL is much improved over last season which will give more time for plays to develop and for Justin to find an open receiver. Justin was our leading receiver because we rotated a handful of RBs in the wake of Martin's string of injuries, so no RB got many attempts. The defense is in question, especially with the potential loss of Muse in the opener. Elizee, the transfer from Minnesota, will be a major asset to the line. We have a lot of guys who will be rotating in and out to keep the line fresh (some of these guys got playing time when Muse and Haywood were injured at the end of the season last year). The losses of Carrington and Dennis hurt, but I don't expect a huge drop from last season in terms of defensive ability. All remains to be seen until September 3rd though.
