  1. My original post about it being an “off” game was tongue-in-cheek. We still won by 40.  I HATE that Fine couldn’t do more because he’s received so much national attention and I don’t want to see that go away, but great teams can’t be one dimensional.  This team was denied it's primary offensive weapons and still stomped a team that wouldn’t lay down.  Those are EXACTLY the kinds of games that can trip up a team that’s merely “good”.

Our “off” game was still dominant.  Littrell has built something special.  No doubt he’ll have them focused for LaTech.

UIW was not a traditional trap game, because if their obvious inability to compete with a D1 team.

Liberty, on the other hand, destroyed one of our conference mates. I would say the team is much higher than after Smut and overlooking this team to think about opening conference play against a proven team like LaTech is a real danger.

Yeah.  Not sure how strong Old Dominion is, but the fact that Liberty took a Conference USA team behind the woodshed makes me nervous.

This past weekend I was at a high school class reunion.  One of the Board of Regent members was also there.  We were both excited about our huge win over Arkansas.

I said, “I’m loving this!  Now we have to figure out some way to keep Texas Tech away from Coach Littrell.”

He looked me squarely in the eye and said, “Texas Tech can’t afford Coach Littrell.”

You may take that however you wish but I think Coach Littrell is with us for a while.

You think that means they’re already thinking of a new contract for him?  Or that Tech can’t afford the buyout?

  4. Is it too soon to start thinking about this game?  I know we have to handle Liberty but assuming Littrell keeps the guys focused we’ll be looking at a huge matchup against maybe the only team in the west that has a shot.

LaTech typically brings a decent crowd.  We’ll have MEGA momentum with a potential 4-0 record, plus breaking ground on the new indoor practice facility AND the Mean Joe statue unveiling.

Do the students come out in big numbers?  Do the alumni?  Unless the weather is crap, I can’t IMAGINE it not selling out.  I’ve got plans that day and I’m already trying to figure out how to get out of them so I can go.

    Is this the first sellout?

  5. Fun to have this conversation.  When TCU started making its move in the early 2000’s this is how they did it.  It’s not just winning the games you’re supposed to win but dominating them.  The haters would always counter with “but look at who you’re playing” while the TCU fans would say “we can’t help who’s in our conference but we dominate them and we beat whoever we can get to play us in non-conference”.

It took multiple seasons of continued winning and dominating before anyone took them seriously.  Finally the Big 12 came calling.  We could possibly do the same thing over the next few years but I worry about us losing our coach at some point.

  6. It does seem like that stat is forced into the article.  As if he had written a nice feel good story about King, his journey, how far he’s come and ability to adapt to a new position, and then Vito or the editor said “Wait!  This story can’t possibly be complete without talking about how much UNT sucks historically against the SEC or what the score was against Arkansas back when the King was in elementary school”.  Insert blurb.  “Ahh.  Now it really lets you know how King is as a player.”

  7. Literally every person I told this week that we were playing Incarnate Word said “who?”.

No name opponent and crappy weather.  I was pleased by how many students DID show up.

Keep winning.  Takes time to change the culture.
