Didn’t we just beat WKU a$$ like 4 weeks ago?
I think one game samples can be misleading.
31-21 as a HC, 23-9 in conference. Went to high school and college in Houston.
…and most importantly, the rumors are he wants out of WKU as they languish away in CUSA. We could double his salary.

I believe Tyson Helton may be a dark horse candidate for the job.

How do you plan to balance high school recruiting with the transfer portal?

For sure. I know it has been a tough couple of weeks for you guys for sure. We had Coach Lashlee all set up and contracted in a very short period of time so it was a little smoother sailing for us. Looks like you guys are still trying to identify someone who is interested. One good thing is I like seeing that you are interested in Garrett Riley. He was just an assistant for us but seemed to be a nice guy. Not sure he would be interested in the UNT job but it doesn't hurt to try.
.
Come on, man. If you’re going to trash talk, you can do better than this.
For example, you could talk about how a program that bragged about having “more money than God” all summer finished fourth in their conference.
Or, perhaps, you could even point out how a coach left the same school with all those resources to join the cross town rival and took his new squad to the playoff in year one.

Lmao Barnett’s source HAS TO BE Perry himself.
*before interview*
“dude, I’ve totally got the job”
*tanks the interview*
“ah, hell, I always wanted to stay at Tech”

Everyone is chasing that Jeff Traylor magic.

Perry leaves me feeling uninspired.
Fuente makes a ton of sense. Keeler is a winner.
Gillespie is my guy - TCU is in the playoff. It makes sense to capitalize on that momentum with either he or Riley.

Jared has already been running the football search, right?
this has always felt like a formality.

I agree with this. Now, is he interested??
I think my first paragraph informs the second.
He’s definitely interested. The guy posting here as a VT fan has to be related to Fuente in some way. I’ve never heard a fan call him “Coach Fu”.

So, running all the posts in this thread through my message board filter, I would say Fuente looks to be the guy. Or at least he's in the running enough to send someone here to advocate on his behalf. I suppose it could also be the AD floating a trial balloon to see how it would go over.
Would be a good hire, I think. And more importantly, I think it would send a message to the nation that North Texas can get a big name AND that North Texas is serious about competing in the AAC.

I’m going to go off the board.
Bronco Mendenhall
I think he’s desperate to get back into coaching and the powers that be at UNT have seemingly backed themselves into a “big name” corner by firing a successful (by national standards) head coach in Seth Littrell.

I would hire Joe Gillespie and keep Bloesch as OC (assuming they had a good relationship at Tulsa).
I think UNT will try for a bigger name: Patterson, Fuente, etc.

From The Athletic article posted above:
QuoteThis job will get a lot of interest because of its location, facilities and investment. Potential names to watch include former Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente, TCU offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and Washington State offensive coordinator Eric Morris. But it’s also notable that athletic director Wren Baker left for West Virginia last week. — Vannini

I wonder if we'll see Seth land at Tulsa now that they struck out with Barry Odom...

I am stunned by this given we have no AD. I thought for sure they would ride this out with Littrell.
I'd like to second what others are saying. Thank you, Seth.
A very good coach, and in my estimation he will get a chance at a P5 job one day. But it was time to try something new.- 4

Okay, but that's how a lot (if not most) of programs operate. Just the other week a story broke that Chris Del Conte wanted to bring Sonny Dykes to UT, but was overruled by donors.
I'd love for our donors to step away and let the AD do his job, but sadly, that's not realistic.
Totally agree with you. It’s not uncommon.
That’s why I believe the decision will be made to give Littrell an extension. He’s not been an unmitigated disaster. We’re in the conference title game (I know CUSA sucks). They won’t fire him with all of this uncertainty in the administration.

"Everything we've heard" ...you mean what some uniformed GMG posters say?
I don't think this changes anything for Littrell. Lose Friday night and he's gone.
Take it for what you want, I’m just a guy talking on a message board. But I spoke with a well known college football reporter about Wren a month ago (or more) and he is the one who told me Wren wanted out of Denton and had been interviewing for every open AD job. I posted about it here when I was told that information.
Part of the reason was the uncertainty around the football program. The exact verbiage I was told was “I’m not sure the AD makes that call in Denton.”

Why do you say this? Seems fitting to let the new AD hire his new football coach heading into our new conference.
An AD transition likely means our boosters and school president will make the call on Littrell. Everything we’ve heard suggests both camps are pro-Littrell.
He’s going to be extended. They won’t want the new AD to make the call immediately just like Wren in WVU with Neal Brown.

0 marketing. 0 before or after game marketing strategies as done in the past. Terrible game day atmosphere/setup. Terrible logistics 0 communication from the AD when the fanbase is clearly in a frenzy or close to one.
My guess is that he's been putting his ear to the pavement for sometime. And, he clearly has.
I’m not sure about the stuff you posted, but it’s definitely why we haven’t heard anything definitive on the Littrell front.
Wren has been focused on getting out, not determining the future in Denton.

I posted a couple of months ago that he wanted out. He’s been interviewing for every single AD job available.
Look for Littrell to get a paper extension soon after the title game.

Also says UAB is targeting Fuente.

Interested as to why you would want to keep Bloesch on? I would think much of our gripes about offense would fall on him; QB play, play calling, schemes, execution, recruiting, etc.
Our offense has been really good. I believe a lot of the issues are built around the fact they don’t necessarily trust Aune to do what they want him to do.
Too early to say on the recruiting front. He hasn’t been here that long, and it’s hard to get a gauge on how hard we’re trying to actually recruit high school players.

Fuente still makes the most sense to me for a multitude of reasons, but I’m warming up to Joe Gillespie and keeping Mike Bloesch and the offensive staff.

If this were true, they would have rushed a contract extension through as soon as they could have.
I don’t think Wren is leaning in either direction at this point.
Beating UTSA and winning a conference title would be such an outlier result that an extension would be warranted.
Beating Rice is not an outlier result. Losing to Rice and therefore losing the opportunity to play in the championship game would mean termination, in my opinion.

UNT hired Washington State offensive coordinator and former Incarnate Word head coach Eric Morris to take over its program on Tuesday
in Mean Green Football

Surprised by the hire, although at least you can see what inspired it. Morris is a name we brought up in the 2023 coaching thread all year long.
He’s a Leach/Kingsbury guy. That obviously goes a long way in Texas.
it’s been fun talking North Texas ball with you gents. As I transfer schools, I’ll be here posting less, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my year with the Mean Green.
Good luck!
