  1. I really wish some of the Morris doubters would take the time to review his career in particular his time at UIW. I did. What this guy accomplished there was no small feat. To put it in context, exactly how many times and how far in the FCS (I-AA) playoffs did UNT get back in the 80's and 90's? I seem to recall maybe once or twice they got into the 1st round? UIW began football in 2009 and joined FCS in 2014. Morris took over in 2018. Prior to that. their overall program record was 30-67. Morris took them to the 1st round of the playoffs in 2018, the second round in 2021 and the team he put together but was led by GJ Kinne wen to the semifinals in 2022. My point is, this guy built something very special in a short amount of time at a place that had literally been a wasteland prior to his arrival.
  2. He was getting double teamed a lot last night. He did exactly what we needed him to do.
  3. HOUSTON — Rice cut a double-digit deficit to three, but could not get any closer, as it fell to North Texas on Saturday night, 74-64, at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Story Both teams started fast. With UNT leading 5-2, Travis Evee made a layup, then stepped in front of a pass and went in for another to give Rice the lead. After trading baskets through the next two minutes, the Owls scored seven of the next nine points, including a three by Quincy Olivari. North Texas scored six of the next eight to tie it at 19, but a dunk by Max Fiedler gave Rice the 21-19 lead midway through the first half. However, the Owls made just one of their next five shots while turning the ball over four times as the Mean Green went on a 20-5 run to take its largest lead of the half, 35-23, with 4:51 to play. Mekhi Mason hit a three, but North Texas scored five of the final eight points as Rice went into halftime trailing, 40-29. Rice opened the second half on a 9-3 run. After UNT hit a three, Cameron Sheffield answered with one of his own and Andrew Akuchie followed with a dunk as the Owls cut the deficit to 46-43 with 11 minutes left. North Texas pushed its lead to nine by scoring eight of the next 10 points. But a free throw by Olivari and layups from Evee and Fiedler brought Rice within 54-50 with seven minutes to play. However, the Mean Green scored six straight points, extending its lead to 10. Rice would cut the lead to five two minutes later on five straight points from Mason, but it could get no closer the rest of the way. What Head Coach Scott Pera Had to Say "Give North Texas all of the credit. The surge they had at the end of the first half ended up being the difference in the game. We couldn't get caught up. We didn't play well enough to win. They played better and they deserved to win." The Stats Rice connected on 47.1% (24-of-51) from the field and 37.5% (6-of-16). But it was just 10-of-18 (55.6%) from the free throw line. North Texas connected on 52.1% (25-of-48) from the floor and 40.0% (6-of-15) from three. The Owls were also outrebounded, 35-to-24. Notes • Rice and North Texas met for the second time this year and the 32nd time overall. • North Texas holds a 23-9 record in the series, but just 9-6 in Houston. • G Mekhi Mason scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. • F Max Fiedler scored 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. • With eight rebounds, Fiedler has 773 in his career, passing Temple Tucker (1955-58) for sixth-place on Rice's all-time list. • G Travis Evee scored 12 points and had a career-high five steals. • G Quincy Olivari scored 12 points, his 20th straight double-figure scoring game, and had five rebounds. Next Up Rice will head to Florida for a pair of games beginning next Thursday, Feb. 9, when it travels to Boca Raton to face league-leader, No. 19 Florida Atlantic. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed at ESPN+. LINK for more: https://riceowls.com/news/2023/2/4/mens-basketball-rice-falls-to-north-texas-in-hard-fought-battle.aspx
  4. If they play it right it could be a sellout
  5. He hasn’t posted in a long time and I miss his postings. Wondering if he took a break or worse sadly passed away. If anyone know him or his status please let us know.
  6. Great question! Would like to know this as well.
  7. All of these recruiting services are kind of a joke now with most of the announcements being from the players on twitter. They never have and never will really scout players that fall into the 3 star category. Just not enough money in it for them.
  8. I seriously doubt it as the entire campus is closed. He could get in deep doo doo if he is because insurance won't cover anything non official. I swear man UNT under Smatresk will take every possible weather day off they can for any reason!
  9. 6-2, 230 Check out his video here: http://www.hudl.com/video/3/17555657/637ee90d3df58405202cdf24

  11. I agree with you @GrayEagle, he was a 1st team all state 6A selection and has great size. Here is some video I found. I apologize in advance as it is only one clip but he is double teamed by two linemen and makes the play. Dude is a beast! https://www.maxpreps.com/tx/frisco/lone-star-rangers/athletes/blake-fann/media/videos/?careerid=1rtmlubg6ptue&videoid=25034743-c308-42b3-b8c7-13f6090d293b
  12. The Texas Aggies are scoring big points in Fort Worth. On Jan. 19, Texas A&M University announced an expansion of its Fort Worth campus, dubbed Aggieland North by Chancellor John Sharp. The excitement of a football victory met the big announcement. The three-building compound will be constructed on four blocks at the site of the Texas A&M School of Law. The new project will be a part of Fort Worth’s planned redevelopment near Cowtown’s convention center. Chancellor Sharp and university leaders made the announcement at the university’s temporary offices in Fort Worth’s Burnett Plaza. Construction will begin this summer on its first building, the Law & Education Building. Stantec will serve as the architect of record and provide planning services, working in partnership with the design architect, Pelli Clarke & Partners. Construction management teams will be Turner Construction Company, CARCON Industries, Source Building Group Inc., and Dikita Enterprises. “A top-10 public research institution ensures Fort Worth’s future is rooted in the next economy driven by an educated workforce, whether it be lawyers, engineers, health care professionals or technology workers whose jobs don’t even exist today,” the chancellor said in a statement released by the university. “Thanks to our partners, the city of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, the Texas A&M System is investing in a unique public-private sector endeavor that will be a magnet for economic growth for the North Texas region.” read more: https://candysdirt.com/2023/01/30/gig-em-fort-worth-texas-aggies-scoring-big-in-downtown-cowtown-with-three-building-campus/
  13. FSU football: Thoughts on Dylan Brown-Turner recruitment FSU football signed 17 prep players in the Early Signing Period last month, with nine enrolling early. Most thought the staff would be done with high school players in the class until they sent out a late offer on Christmas Eve. Three-star linebacker Dylan Brown-Tuner, a North Texas commit was the recipient, although he had been building a relationship with the FSU coaching staff over the past year. Then the question was, would he officially visit, which would mean he’s a legitimate option for the Noles? Brown-Turner officially visited FSU over the weekend and spoke with Noles247 before leaving the campus. Before I read this interview, I had shared on social media I thought the staff could have probably gotten an equal or better player from Georgia or Florida. However, the interview provided insight into why the staff may take him in this class. Here’s his thoughts on what the staff told him: “They actually got my measurables today. And he said just by my frame, with what I weighed in at, that’s great size coming in. Him and a few of the players and some more coaches, like DeLoach, his body frame and size, speed, the way they use him as a QB spy, he has great speed tracking down ball carriers. That’s how they envision my playing style.” READ MORE: https://chopchat.com/2023/01/30/fsu-football-thoughts-dylan-brown-turner-recruitment/
  14. re and Jeff Traylor. Outside of one, no recent Texas high school coach has been as close to a national title as North Texas’ newest associate head coach. Drew Svoboda spent the past two seasons next to Nick Saban as Alabama’s senior special assistant to the head coach, the same position held by Gary Patterson now at Texas. There, he tailored game plans and stats analysis and inquired about high school talent, utilizing his Houston-area connections. Prior to Alabama, he was at Rice as running backs coach for three seasons. But he cut his teeth as a head coach at Klein Collins for a decade where he posted nearly an 80 percent win percentage. Now taking on a bigger role, pending North Texas' success under Eric Morris, Svoboda could be a new name in the long list of high school coaches appearing on administrators' radars. 15. @TheReal_jayD is the guy who would know all this.
  16. I thought this was just the Talons renamed? Was I wrong?
  17. I’m not sure how to think about this and I’m not pleased about just giving away admission when it hasn’t been earned through testing or whatnot. Sorry to be Debbie Downer but that’s just how I feel about it.
