  1. It's simple.... Win and every few weeks, generate interesting press for the program. In C-USA it wasn't so simple. C-USA had no real media exposure. But now with ESPN behind us, if we can win and generate interesting press, the fans will show up and tune in. UNT has a great opportunity to beat Cal in Week 1. If we do beat Cal, I think Morris should sing the North Texas Fight song, while the players shave his head at the post-game press conference. That would generate the extra kind of media exposure UNT needs early in the season. I know ESPN would put that on College Game Day Finally.
  2. Thanks for responding. I agree, not landing Lugo isn't the worst thing that could happen. But, we still don't have a QB committed, and we need to be pulling in better QB's than UTSA. If we can land that kid out of China Springs, I'll be over the moon. Personally, I don't view the Alamodome as a positive for recruiting. I'd think recruits would place a higher value on the atmosphere of an on-campus stadium. Please tell me Morris is going to place a higher emphasis on signing some quality beef and getting us a better QB than Lugo. We have to pull that kind of talent. X's and O's can only carry a team so far. Our WR recruits look great, but if we are serious about competing in the AAC, we have to pull top AAC quality talent at all the positions.
  3. Morris got a pass for his first class. The current class has some great players so far, but my problem is with the players we can't get to commit. As long as UTSA is down in San Antonio getting the players we are targeting (QB: Lugo, DL: Robinson, & our former OL: Hurth), our recruiting efforts are failing. Games are won in the trenches, and with quarterback play. Coach O hasn't been able to deliver those players. Something is amiss. JayD, do you know why these players are committing to UTSA instead of UNT?
  4. But, he isn't wrong. The P5 is dying. It's all about PM (Power Money) conferences and trying to be a PM type program in the AAC. The best players are now openly going to the highest bidders. There are collectives/programs in the AAC that are determined to be PM programs. The sad truth is that if we aren't securing our share of PM quality players, we at best will be relegated to being a middle of the pack AAC program that won't compete for conference titles, a spot in the new 12-team playoff, or a spot in any future round of realignment 10 years down the road. How is out collective looking? Who have they signed? What are they paying? When we have these answers, we can better gauge our expectations for recruiting and winning. As to the topic of this thread... Barnes is a great addition. The guy is lightning fast and has good hands. Now I want him to Bleed Green.
  5. While I'm glad they are headquartered in Denton, I'm really hoping we're not playing in Sally Beauty Stadium when the ink on the contract is dry.
  6. I don't believe in breaking things that work, and Simon was solid last season. But, the logical choice would be to move the player with the strongest arm to 3rd. One thing is certain. Kat didn't transfer here to ride the bench. That girl will start somewhere.
  7. In softball infielders are infielders. Girls good enough to play at this level, can play all four infield positions. Glad to see local talent come back home. But, we still need another slugger or two that can hit in the .300's.
  8. Could it be Cash McCollum? That would certainly be a major win for UNT. https://twitter.com/Cash_McCollum/status/1672681933678026760?cxt=HHwWkIC98efWx7YuAAAA
  9. Gamble (.316) & Simon (.311) are keeping their spots at 1st and SS. They are pillars of this team. Smith (.228) at 2nd, needs to hit for a better average, but she did finish second on the team with 9 homeruns. I think Ibarra (.368) would likely take 3rd away from Sparks (.214). At least that's how I figure it. Like a stated in a previous post, I really hope DeLong can find a couple of power hitters that can at least hit for average.
  10. We have a home-&home series with Colorado in '32 &'33. https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/north-texas/
  11. Softball is among my favorite sports... period. For me, it's right there with football and basketball. That's probably why I get so frustrated when they don't perform up to expectations. I like this move by DeLong. It shows that he understands next year's team has to be better at the plate and isn't just hoping the current roster improves. Competition for positions and playing time should be a strong motivator this offseason. I think Kat will hit leadoff for UNT just like she did for UTSA. I hope DeLong beings in a few heavy hitters too.
  12. Kat is a true Junior, so I'd imagine she only has her senior year left. She was a freshman in 2021, so I don't think she gets a COVID year.
  13. UTSA's best player SS Kat Ibarra has transferred to UNT. Ibarra hit .368 and led the Runners in almost every offensive category. https://twitter.com/brettvito/status/1664831056518823937?cxt=HHwWgoC-7c7B1ZouAAAA
  14. I'll take UNT and 7 points. Remember, Cal wanted Rogers too. https://cal.rivals.com/news/qb-transfer-target-chandler-rogers-speaks-highly-of-cal-visit-mutual-fit Cal is not an elite PAC program. Morris knows what Cal does, since he had to gameplan against them as the OC at Washington State (28-9 win). Plus, we have the advantage of them not knowing what we will do on offense or defense. And, the heat should be an advantage for our Mean Green.
  15. There are now windows built into the portal. But this kid is a grad transfer. They can leave at any time.
  16. We are loaded at WR. This isn't a big loss in my opinion. This is an opportunity to grab a graduate transfer at a position of need.... TE or maybe more depth on either line.
  17. I'm not dismissing the quality of the top programs in C-USA. UNT, UAB, and especially FAU were good enough to compete in any conference in the country, but the rest of C-USA was fairly mediocre to downright awful. In the Big12 there will be no UTSA's on his basketball schedule. That conference is a gauntlet, and he will play against teams ever night that won't have to double team him to shut him down. Perry was great for UNT, but the Big12 has plenty of film on him now. None of those teams are going to give him an inch of space in the closing seconds of games. They saw what he did to Oklahoma State at the NIT.
  18. C-USA Softball is now bush-league. Judy should be embarrassed by the lack of integrity shown by her umpires. That MT runner was out at the plate, and both camera angles proved it. I'm done with C-USA. I can't wait to see those AAC logos on our facilities.
  19. In the short term, yes, they made the right choice. They will have an opportunity to play for one of the more successful programs in the SEC. They will almost certainly earn more NIL/extra money than they would have at UNT. But, playing at Auburn offer them no extra access to the NFL. And, they will find it harder to see the field among a larger group of talented players. In 10 years, most Auburn fans will probably not even remember their names. So in the long term... they probably made very poor choices. At UNT they would have been featured stars with every opportunity to make big time plays for the NFL scouts. And however their professional careers played out, they would have been remembered as UNT greats. In Shorter's case, possibly one of the best to ever play his position at UNT. Playing their entire careers at UNT worked out fine for Joe Greene and Abner Haynes. But, Shorter and Nixon made their choices. Now they have to live with their choice. No player(s) is/are bigger than the program. UNT will be just fine. Go Mean Green!!!
  20. Sure, I think Perry was a great clutch player for UNT. But, I also think Perry's height and lack of a big-time burst will hurt is play in the Big12, which is arguably the best basketball conference in all of college. Those larger, faster, and more athletic defenders are going to negatively affect his impact on games and his overall numbers.
  21. He's like Perry, but with a burst. I like what Hodge is doing so far.
  22. How is the Sun Bowl having a view of Juarez a positive thing for UTEP?
  23. Very true. A large portion of our roster and our hitter coach need to be evaluated. The 50 point drop in the team's overall batting average needs to be addressed. If our team hits a horrible .242 next season in the AAC, we won't be contending for the conference title.
  24. I'm happy for Aune and wish him the best. Anytime a UNT QB gets a shot at the NFL, I'm going to support him. I hope he makes a team and has a long successful NFL career. If he does it will certainly be a massive indictment on Littrell's ability to develop QB's, because if Aune makes it in the NFL, he probably should have been way more productive at UNT.
