There are plenty of schools that somehow manage to make it work. I have to believe we are working on it. I’d love to add a new women’s sport as well. The more teams the better.

Bowling is what we need. I swear I saw ODU on TV for women’s bowling

Thought I’d start an open subject & discussion thread just for 🥎 independent of the game threads..

So here we are at 12-2 following a 4 game sweep of A&Mcc and Southern.....as we should have.  But it still burns me that we’re not 13-2 and ranked after letting the texas game slip away last week.

I know we’ve moved on from that game but you have to give that and the ULL games greater consideration because those are two teams who are at the level we greatly inspire to be at and in my opinion are very close to becoming.

Did you know that prior to our game with the horns they were averaging 10 runs a game?

Going into their game against us they were 10-0 and just slaughtering opposing pitching with wins over Ol’ Miss and an 11 run win over #12 Tennessee and had scored 100 runs....until they faced North Texas where they were fortunate to get two unearned runs to win it.  For Trautwein to hold that group to 1 run for 7 innings was a phenomenal effort.

And their defense is just as good.  The two girls they pitched against us, Elish and O’leary are two of the top pitchers in the nation.

Elish, an All American at Oregon was 37-2 with a 1.18 ERA before transferring to Austin.  She has been and is currently on the 2018, 2019 & 2020 Top 50 Preseason Watch List for USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award and that’s just the start of a long long laundry list of her recognitions.

O’leary at six foot two is right behind Elish in accolades, though just a sophomore, she was the Big 12 freshman pitcher of the year last year and is the reigning 2019 national ERA champion with a 0.65 ERA

Enough cannot be said for how the Mean Green battled the horns and those two pitchers because it shows what we’re capable of.  What separates us and a team on texas’ level besides millions in funding is the micro plays that you see in softball.

The main thing that stood out to me was our inability to successfully lay down a bunt to move a runner over at the most critical times in the game.

When your playing such a tight, small ball game that is the game of softball those type of tiny things have to be automatic to play top 25 ball.  Every time texas laid a bunt down they got the runner over.  We didn’t when we had to have it.  That cannot happen.  It just can’t to win games against a top program..  The great thing is that’s correctable and I know we’ll get better at it.

    Moving on to this week...

As Lifer mentioned already UTA is up next and we play them tomorrow at The Lace.  They have a couple of wins over an 11-5 A&M Aggie team.  UTA has since cooled off a bit, is 7-7 and is currently on a 3 game losing streak dropping two games to a struggling Kansas and one game to UTSA.

UTA keeps a large pitching staff usually but looks to be only using 4 so far.  Their top two pitchers have a combined ERA of 2.56. Still they are a very solid team like they always are.  They have combined for 11 home runs already and have turned 5 double plays.  As usual I suspect we’ll have our hands full tomorrow night.

Speaking of UTSA,..they appear to be our current nearest in-conference challenge so far. Not so much because they are 11-5 with wins over Kansas and UTA but because last years CUSA co-champion La Tech is sitting at 3-11 with losses to Montana, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Evensville and Houston Baptist.  They have also lost to Texas Tech, LSU, Houston and Syracuse.  Still, I had expected when I peeked at their schedule to see them no worse than .500.  So that’s something to keep an eye on.

I agree.  Get somebody to sponsor cheap t's.  Baylor had "Basketball Gameday" for their game this past weekend against KU and it was a whiteout.  Everyone was wearing the same shirt, so you know their AD placed them on seats.

Image result for baylor vs kansas basketball

Exactly! Southern Miss had one several years ago and they had white shirts placed on the wooden seats! It’s a piss poor effort most of the time by our AD and the whole department

Late response but that was a great basketball game. We shot terribly from 3, got in foul trouble, & still hung in there. We should’ve played through Simmons more in the post but that’s all that bothered me. That kid went insanity at the end & hit one more shot than hamlet. Would rather this happen now than in conf tourney. This team has the guard play, defense, & shooting to win it. Could even make noise in first round if not matched up with a team that has elite bigs. Most excited I’ve been watching a team since I’ve been enrolled or alumni.

Speaking of Simmons, I get frustrated (I know sometimes he can’t help that he gets switched) when he guards the perimeter. He’s too slow, and it happened several times last week and of course the Doolittle Dagger

Who is "they" and what was the problem other than it didn't appear anyone wore white?

My context of “they” is the athletic department. Usually you see these type of themes with shirts on the seats because not many people have white UNT stuff clearly. I mean they could’ve put it on the bottom bowl. Idk

How so? It would be better for WKU to lose to the MUTS on the road? All year people were praising our tougher schedule even when we lost but suddenly when our conference schedule is tougher people want to whine...

I mean I’ve never been a fan of this, and last week like stated above the top 2 teams lost at home.

Once Judy is gone, we might be a normal conference. We might actually play in a basketball arena for championships😂

(I’m not against the championship at the Star by the way)

    If we only get 1, it's gotta be an every-down, double-team-commanding, block-eating, QB-pressuring, Run-game-disrupting, Defensive Tackle.

If we get more than 1, then that same guy, plus any number of stud O-Linemen.

We're fine at WR with Darden and the emergency of Shorter.  Simpson will only get better as well.

DL or LB. If I really think about it, I want another OL just because 😂

Pod play does increase the strength of schedule. Strength of schedule is the chief determiner of bracket rankings. Thus pod play DOES give teams in the top pod the best chance of being ranked ranked higher if they get into the NCAAs. It's math, folks.

However, it is still up to the teams to actually WIN.

The thing is, to some teams (like us) it doesn’t treat us fair because we have so many long layoffs. FIU will have not played in 12 days when they play us, and before the actual tournament we don’t play for 8 days. To me that’s just a thing they need to work out (and other things like TV) but if they don’t this system will be gone.

When all is said and done, it seems that uniform options are very important to a lot of young men. While I would like to have a standard, if the kids like the changes so be it.

    That’s very true.
