  1. Later this week, the college football season officially kicks off, although it will look a little different this year with constant monitoring of COVID symptoms and even “sold-out” games consisting of mostly empty seats. The start of the season will mark a big step forward in the sports world’s march back to normal. To provide insight into how college sports will be resuming this fall, we invited on regular MarketScale contributor and UNT Athletic Director, Wren Baker. Baker was able to walk us through how the school will be letting fans in through the gates this weekend at 25% capacity, adding that concessions will also have a much bigger emphasis on contactless ordering and delivery. https://marketscale.com/industries/sports-and-entertainment/coordinating-the-return-of-college-football/
  2. https://marketscale.com/industries/sports-and-entertainment/how-north-texas-is-bursting-on-to-the-national-scene-with-wren-baker/ Expectations have never been higher for the UNT athletic department, but in college athletics there is never room for complacency. Investment in new facilities, like the one UNT recently completed for its football, track & field and soccer teams, reinforce the health of the department. “One tangible way to see that the University is committed to the development of the student athlete is through facilities,” Baker said. According to Baker, there are more than 300 high schools in Texas that have indoor practice facilities on their campus, so matching the experience recruits are accustomed to is important. The recently built Lovelace and McNeely Families Practice Facility is a step towards achieving this.
  3. https://marketscale.com/industries/sports-and-entertainment/wren-baker What does it take to build a consistent winning program? That’s the question being asked on a daily basis by everyone from athletic directors, to coaches, to business owners. Everyone wants to win, but few possess the ability to draw up the blueprint to make it happen. Since his arrival in Denton, Texas in July 2016, Wren Baker, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University of North Texas, has built a program that has ascended out of the doldrums of the NCAA and onto the map. Establishing a long-term presence in the national consciousness is his next challenge, and it might prove to be more difficult than getting them there in the first place.
