  1. The fact that he didn't make Biletnikoff finalists is downright insulting. DeVonta Smith from Bama is the runaway winner as he should be, but no excuse for him to not be in the top 3. DeVonta Smith- 11 games, 98 rec, 1,511 yds, 17 TD Elijah Moore- 9 games, 86 rec, 1,193 yds, 8 TD Kyle Pitts- 11 games, 43 rec, 770 yds, 12 TD Jaelon Darden- 9 games, 74 rec, 1,190 yds, 19 TD As for his draft prospects he is going to need an impressive 40 time to overcome his size issues in my opinion. Definitely no guarantees he is drafted, but if he is it would be round 6 or 7.
  2. Nothing but love for our former players, but they sure have a lot of talking to do for guys who didn't accomplish much.
  3. Headed to the draft. With 4 star Preston Stone coming in and the rumor mill buzzing that another former Texas QB Ja'Quinden Jackson is strongly considering SMU it's not going to get much easier for us.
  4. https://interactives.dallasnews.com/2020/sportsdays-top-recruits-for-2021/ Caleb Johnson checks in at #29 in the DMN top 100, second highest rated commit to a G5 school We also got #71 Harold West and #92 Zhighlil McMillan Of those that are committed or signed SMU leads the way with 10 commits, sadly it's safe to say their marketing strategy of representing Dallas seems to be paying off.
  5. 2017- Tre Siggers, Jaelon Darden, Greg White, Cam Johnson, Tyreke Davis, Dion Novil, Makyle Sanders, Jacob Brammer, Manase Mose 2018- Cole Brown, Daizion Carroll, Austin Ogunmakin, Jason Bean, Austin Aune, Deandre Torrey, KD Davis, Larry Nixon, Jyaire Shorter 2019- Deonte Simpson, Oscar Adaway, Grayson/Gabriel Murray, Kevin Wood, Quinn Whitlock, DeShawn Gaddie 2020- Anterrious Gray, but could also count Upton Stout, Devontae McCrae, and Jordan Rucker Might have forgotten a couple but the majority of our snaps come from guys who were part of bad overall classes. We managed to find some diamonds in the rough, but I'm looking forward to combining good overall classes with diamonds in the rough instead of constantly hoping we over achieve our recruiting rankings.
  6. Fixed that for you. The current team has recruiting classes ranked as 8th, 11th, and 8th in conference as our upperclassmen, we finished about 9th last year and 7th this year within conference so pretty much right where you'd expect. Finishing above 8th would be over achieving based on the recruits we have on this team, don't let years of Mason Fine/Graham Harrell mess up expectations of how good we should have been. The good news is that our next 3 classes are ranked 4th, 2nd, and 3rd (currently) so reasonable expectations would be a top 4/5 finish within conference next year and then competing for conference titles the next few years after that. Our first "good" recruiting class was 2019, those players would be either freshmen or sophomores right now, so a bit of patience is needed before we should be saying recruits are being wasted. The issue with this current team is absolutely the poor recruiting done by Littrell his first 3 classes.
  7. Do you think it's possible this ends up being mostly our full class unless some great opportunities open up later on? With the uncertainty of how close we will be to scholarship limits after next season it might be smart for this class to be a few short of full no?
  8. Was wondering the same thing..has me thinking maybe those bigger schools were trying to ask him to play CB and he wanted to stay at WR and that's what we took him as.
  9. https://247sports.com/player/caleb-johnson-46100091/ This is the only uncommitted player we have offered who would be ranked as our highest commit ever. Very impressive offer list and decommitted from OU about a month and half ago so this is my guess.
  10. Sounds like he is likely headed to SMU and his former OT has a very good chance of joining as well. Sucks but at least we aren't in a conference with them. https://247sports.com/player/savion-byrd-46078964/
  11. As a player who's already iffy to be drafted I would think that an opportunity to play in a nationally televised game against the best competition we've seen all year would be an amazing chance for him to show the doubters something, but there's also the risk for him to either get injured or locked down by their defense (to be clear I'm positive this wouldn't happen) so I get the risks. Let's just hope he gets an invite to the Senior Bowl or combine to really boost his chances.
  12. I see him going P5 again but I would throw everything we have at this guy, one of the more electric HS players I remember watching around here.
  13. Bowen was hired here with the expectation of running a 4-3 defense as he has most of his career. Once he got here he realized there was no way that was possible due to our roster construction. Add in opt outs, injuries, etc and my stance is that I think it's fair to give him next season to see how the defense looks running the defense he is comfortable with and not something he was forced into.
  14. Adaway is our best runner and it's really not even close. The fact that he doesn't get 15+ touches a game is criminal.
  15. While it seems dumb, this is actually something that could happen. He already has Marshall, UTSA, FAU, WKU, LA Tech, and UAB slated to other bowls and they are the top teams in conference so I'm guessing he is assuming UTEP beats us to become the next most desirable bowl team to fill the CUSA spot in the Frisco Bowl. Keep in mind bowls are waiving the 6 win requirement this year due to corona.
  16. While I agree with the general thought here, let's not act like they chose a random WR to play QB instead of Gilmore. Lynn Bowden was a 4 star recruit/all-state QB in high school, ended last season as a 1st team All-American at QB, was a 3rd round pick in this year's draft and was probably the best player on Kentucky. I would hope that if we were down to our 3rd/4th/5th string QB and had a guy like that on our team we would play him at QB instead of a true freshman who the coaching staff felt needed a redshirt year. I'm not sold on Gilmore yet either, but I don't think we can fault his ability because of how that situation played out.
  17. This is our 4th defensive tackle commit in case anybody is wondering how seriously we are committing to running a 4-3 defense next year. With the very real possibility we bring Dion Novil back I'm pretty excited to see how our DL could look with all these young pieces and the guys getting reps this year.
  18. Just watched his highlights so far from this year, and there are maybe 5 or 6 total defensive plays in the entire 5 minute clip and in those he is simply making a tackle. Not a tackle for a loss or sack, just a plain tackle.. most players who are solely on defense probably wouldn't include these clips in their film. Not a knock on him at all, because he shows a ton of speed in those defensive clips. But then there are probably 20+ offensive plays where he is breaking multiple tackles, out running everyone for 70 yard touchdowns, blocking guys down field, you get the point. He seems much more physical with the ball in his hands, so I'm really wondering why we are putting him on defense.
  19. And we will have a senior (or junior) QB who likely has 2-3 years starting under his belt, could/should be a big year for us.
  20. Everyone saw the game today, Bean looked great. However, we also found ourselves in this situation at the beginning of the season. Can Bean succeed when the other teams defense forces him to pass and not have wide open running lanes? On the flip side, can Aune actually be better in those situations? To me, it looks like we have 2 average QB's. Bean does have the speed, but when teams actually have the game plan to shut that down it hasn't looked so great. We executed well today, but expecting to continue to put up record breaking offensive numbers probably isn't realistic either. I'm honestly completely unsure what to think and I'm not a fan at all of continuing to bench our QB when he's not doing well and then the other guy comes in and does better, but what else should we do? Just figured we could start a discussion here since I'm sure this will be the main topic of the next week.
  21. Worth noting that the one time transfer without having to sit out a season is expected to become official next season. I personally don't believe that's the case here because if he wanted to transfer to a better school than UNT you would think starting and doing well for us this season would be the smart move especially since sitting out doesn't preserve any eligibility.
  22. Only 5 carries on the day so far as the backup RB but making the most of his chances as usual
  23. I think he tried, but as far as I know I don't think he did. I think he had some injuries here if I remember right and obviously Mason came in and did his thing so it was tough for him to find a role.
