  1. Some experience is better than none, however the argument could be made that Arizona has been among the worst teams in the country the last 2 years. With limited time I see this being a big uphill battle to get even the #2 spot but I will always welcome more solid competition in the QB room. Hope Gunnell can be what we are waiting for!
  2. Level of competition is obviously questionable, but he had 21 sacks combined the last 2 season so very good production at his level.
  3. Just for the sake of discussion who are some players over the last 10 years that you guys think should have been drafted?
  4. I haven't looked at the numbers in depth like you apparently have, but I think it's extremely safe to assume that out of the 228 SEC transfers there are starters in there as well as players who are well above bench warmer status, or at least players they don't want to lose. The most recent example I actually know of is Agiye Hall leaving Bama for Texas, he had 2 receptions for 50 yards in the national championship game and was the #45 player in the country in the '21 class..I'm sure they would have loved to have kept him around.. Every situation is unique, and it's just unrealistic to say any player leaving UNT= seeing the writing on the wall 20 players leave Bama= oh those are just angry bench warmers
  5. Could also just say they see nothing but youth in front of them, in today's times guys don't want to sit and wait 2/3 years for another chance to be a starter or sit around thinking maybe someone will get hurt and I'll get my chance. No need arguing about toughness and grinding it out, that's just how most players operate now that they can transfer for free. We signed 6 DT's in the 2021 class, I would have been more shocked if all 6 stayed in addition to what we already had on the roster once they learned their spot on the depth chart. We now have Jackson/Brown/LeBlanc then Johnson/Vailea/Rausaw?...I agree we are now in desperate need of some depth but I'm not going to lose sleep that we lost our 7th, 8th and 9th DT.
  6. I know it's easy to put the blame on Littrell and the state of the program but every single school is losing players currently. That is the current state of college sports regardless of the direction of the program. We are pretty much right on par with schools like Bama, Georgia, LSU..do you think the players there see the writing on the wall too? Granted, it's hurts us 10x more than these programs because they can replace those guys with anyone and we can't. But blaming players leaving on the state of the program is just refusing to look at the big picture.
  7. Success is a very bold word to use, he threw just 3 touchdown passes during our 6 game win streak. If anything you could say that our team success came once we took the ball out of his hands more often. I think a lot of that can be attributed to our WR/TE talent as well as others have mentioned. I think that group should be our most improved position next season.
  8. Picked up a UNT offer as well as Old Dominion, Eastern Michigan and Toledo
  9. https://angelosports.com/sports/football/roster/willis-patrick/6965 As far as I can see we should have been on this dude ASAP, very impressive resume and he is from Mansfield HS. Entered the portal yesterday and already has offers from: Northwestern St, Tarleton St, TX A&M Commerce, Kent State, Jackson St, Buffalo, Tennessee St, Incarnate Word, Charlotte, Sam Houston St, and LA Tech
  10. Looks like we will be needing a new recruiting operations coordinator.
  11. Just a fact that SMU is better off than probably any other G5 school and even many P5 schools when it comes to NIL opportunities. Doubt we've seen the end of moves like this. Here's the player for those wondering. https://247sports.com/Player/Camar-Wheaton-46050152/high-school-209514/
  12. I'm excited about the future of this team as a whole from a player perspective. We have had some great recruiting classes that will finally get the chance to shine a bit more, in Brett's projected depth chart we only have 6 seniors (Manase Mose, Austin Aune, Quinn Whitlock, Sean-Thomas Faulkner, KD Davis, and Zahodri Jackson) so this team is going to keep getting better. On offense we look really good everywhere except QB as long as we can stay healthy. On defense we are less solid but I feel good about DT, LB, and CB so hopefully Bennett can get the rest of the group pulled along. I'm interested to see the approach our offense takes. We switched to a run heavy offense last year because of injuries and QB limitation, but with a fully healthy WR room and replacing Pirtle with a more athletic option in Gumms we look completely different at that position than last year. Trying to show some optimism lol.
  13. True, remind me how that turned out again? Not a knock on Ruder at all, but moreso the fact that we then watched Aune complete less than 50% of his passes in 6 games, including a stretch of 1 TD and 4 interceptions in the Marshall and Liberty games as well as 4 straight losses and it never seemed like there was a consideration to make a change. We are going into year 3 of Aune continuing to be stuck in as a starter, if the staff wanted him gone they could have made it clear at the end of the year they wanted to explore other options and I imagine he would have retired, but here we are so I think it's pretty obvious someone wants him around.
  14. Expecting a transfer to come in and unseat someone going into their 5th season with the program with 2 years of "starting" under his belt in just 3 months was an unrealistic pipe dream for many people here. Littrell clearly likes Aune, and I don't really ever think there was much of a competition to begin with this spring.
  15. I'd love to put on my green tinted glasses and believe that's the case here but this player didn't just pop up out of nowhere. He's been at a juco for 2 (possibly 3) seasons and received one FBS offer from UNT. Those are just the facts. That being said he was 2nd team all-division player, and our staff felt good enough about him to offer. He could absolutely be a diamond in the rough that we happened to stumble on.
  16. Looks like we beat out Davenport University, Morehead State, and Western Illinois for his services.
  17. Not even close to the point I'm trying to make, I'm fully aware that walk ons can become great players and that has nothing to do with my post.
  18. Why are you taking a walk on lineman this seriously? It really isn't that big of a deal man. Most walk ons have done absolutely nothing at any level in college. Don't think anyone is asking or expecting this kid to jump in and start or even play. Criticizing athletes paying their own way and still putting in the work every day is just a very weird path to go down. Edit- Would like to clarify that what I mean when I say most walk ons have done nothing is that they have done nothing prior to becoming a walk on wherever they choose to walk on, once they have become a walk on there are plenty of instances of success.
  19. I'd love to believe that's the reason we made that move but to me that was done out of necessity. With Gilmore, Martin, and Drummond no longer in the QB room and no HS signee showing up in the fall we were looking to go into spring with only Ruder and Aune.
  20. Has Littrell made any comments about the QB situation? Many comments here are making it seem as if we have an open competition and I guess I just assumed that wouldn't be the case unless someone was so much better than Aune in practices that the coaches couldn't ignore it.
  21. The WVU transfer is definitely on scholarship and while this juco transfer is less certain, usually using language like offer and commitment are for scholarship opportunities. And if you check out his twitter feed it's full of teammates saying "you deserved this, it's about time" stuff like that, I feel like they usually don't say stuff like that for a walk on chance but who knows.
  22. Does anyone know if we have now used 2 scholarships on long snappers in this class? Important position sure, but I would hope this isn't the case. Edit: Answering my own question here but yes, we have in fact used 2 of our limited scholarships on long snappers.
  23. Never want to talk down on a recruit but as someone who has seen this kid play this is a big reach for Indiana. Hope he works hard and has a great career wherever he ends up.
  24. He is likely going to continue to blow up, 2-time all conference OL is something most schools would love to have. By the way that is former UNT safety Kishawn McClain helping facilitate this latest offer.
