  1. I'm going to blame the coach responsible for that area, which seems to be Mainord. We offered Williams his OT on May 21 according to 247, and by then he already had the Tulsa, SMU, and Wisconsin offers. So we went into that school knowing they had a QB with those offers and I'm guessing didn't feel he was worth an offer at the time. Just looking at his offer list so far I don't feel like we should count ourselves out yet, but knowing we should have been on it 8 months ago sucks. Edit- I don't fully blame Mainord because for all we know he came back and said that they have this QB we should jump on, and I believe there are staff meetings where they agree on who to offer but I could be wrong. However, the Lubbock area is his responsibility I'm pretty sure.
  2. Frustrating, would love to pretend maybe we just discovered him but seeing as one of his OL has been committed here for over 7 months that seems very unlikely.
  3. The only person who has looked like a clown the last few days is you. Some people choose to maintain some basic human decency when it comes to someone who was associated with this university and choose to wish them the best with no ill will because they weren't a good fit here. We eagerly await more Big 12 analysis and takes from the boards undisputed expert.
  4. I've got 7-5, should be able to go 6-1 after a brutal first half but will likely drop one that we shouldn't so I'm just hoping we can get back to a bowl game and go into 2021 strong. Also will be interesting to see how healthy we are after playing 3 teams that should have a pretty decent size/speed advantage over us.
  5. Galban is an interesting story at the very least, and when it comes to HS QB we have a realistic shot at he's probably one of the better ones left. Personal wish list would be Jett Duffey, Kaedric Cobbs (we are never offering), and a couple of DL who can come in and make a quick impact whether that's juco or transfer.
  6. My guess for lack of interest would be he's not "fast", outside of that he has D1 size, amazing in the classroom, and the results speak for themselves. I'm truly baffled we haven't offered, yet meanwhile we are going to have 8 tight ends next year...
  7. I'm not sure what you are trying to disagree with me about? You admitted FAU is a better job right now and it's a fact that Leavitt was given his last 2 jobs prior to this one by Taggart, so in that specific situation expecting us to be able to convince him to come here solely for more money, which we aren't even sure would be the case, and despite his history with their coach seems unrealistic. I said we absolutely should be able to get coordinators of that caliber, but circumstances/prior relationships play a factor in these things a lot of the time. I don't really think we are in a position to just money whip people to coach for us, and I think recent hires would show that to be true. I agree there are some former coordinators maybe looking for another shot, Bowen actually qualifies as just that. Your earlier post claimed to want former FBS winners who want another shot. Most winners don't get fired or demoted to a position coach, so I guess I need your definition of a winner before we can come up with better choices for DC. I definitely do not think Bowen is the absolute best choice, but good and also realistic choices are few and far between.
  8. The reality is that FAU is currently a better job that UNT, and I'd love to hear an argument using facts otherwise. Can we hope to hire people of the same caliber as Leavitt? Absolutely, and I believe there's no reason we can't get similar coaches of that caliber given the right circumstances. However Taggart has given Leavitt his last 2 (now 3) jobs, so we can't really be mad they got him and we didn't. Proven FBS winners, which is what everyone seems to want, have little desire to come join a middle of the pack CUSA team that has potential with a coach they have zero connection to.
  9. Not sure if anyone else watched the state championship tonight but this kid just looked great against a really good Denton Ryan team, winning game MVP in the process. Only one offer currently from Texas Southern..I imagine he will start blowing up this summer but really hope the staff takes a look at him early. https://247sports.com/Player/Kyron-Drones-46081020/ https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10379757/5d6e7dd05ca94d10e0c37954
  10. Reffett made less than 300k last year, there is a reported salary pool bump, but if he can make that money or close to it being a low risk assistant at a P5 school why would he come here? Let's be realistic, CUSA is the 7th or 8th best conference in football, a 54 year old assistant who probably isn't trying to be a HC again isn't going to take a downward career path and less salary for this job. As for "great" Texas ties, I'm not sure I would qualify 3 of your 30 coaching years being in Texas or even close to the state of Texas as great. And winning in the best conference..not sure I would call it that. He had a Heisman trophy winner on the other side of the ball his first 2 years, really works wonders for the defense. As for his only year without Manziel well: "After the season, which was marred by defensive struggles, Sumlin dismissed his defensive coordinator, Mark Snyder." Edit: I'd like to add I found that Bowen was making 500k at KU, so my money argument is not as relevant. Point still stands that backed by the 16th, 9th, and 5th nationally ranked classes Snyder was able to get himself fired. Anybody else that would be a good hire for you?
  11. Sure, let's view it logically and objectively. Kansas typically has the worst or second to worst recruiting class in one of the most offensively talented conferences in football, to go along with that is an offense that could be described as terrible at best, not exactly a great scenario to be a DC right? Despite this many of Bowen's former players have gone on to achieve success at the next level, and he has maintained having a job despite all of his shortcomings. One could point at UNT in 2011 or WKU in 2010 as other examples of Bowen's coaching abilities. Maybe this is my "green colored glasses" talking, but would anyone here argue that this team is much much more talented than either of those teams? I believe this is the best situation Bowen has ever found himself in talent wise when compared to his opponents, and I'm excited to see what he can do with the opportunity. We are getting a guy with P5 HC and DC experience, that isn't something that's easy to come by. Realistically speaking I would love to hear a handful of examples of the best hire UNT could have made, and please don't even think about throwing the name Todd Orlando out there.
  12. Kind of disappointing to have our offer come in after TCU, SMU, Houston, A&M, and Ok St. have all already offered, we shoud've been on this way before them.
  13. Many of the guys who closely follow Texas were saying this on Twitter yesterday when it became official they weren't getting GH, I personally don't have a direct source but when multiple people who typically have a good beat on Texas football are saying the same thing you can assume there is at least some truth. I don't know the answer to either of those questions which is why I asked. You basically took the questions I asked and reworded them. I heard that was a factor for GH and imagined that certain OC's may not want to work or even consider working at a place where the HC has that type of mentality so I was curious if we may have something similar with our coach. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but Leach has never had an OC at WSU (that I could find) so giving up control isn't even an option.
  14. Apparently the fact that Herman would not give up full control of the offense was a factor in GH spurning Texas. Do you guys think that a similar type of refusal to give up full control is hurting our OC candidate pool and search?
  15. To make this claim you'd have to show me a decline in all Texas teams overall records over the last 20ish years because that should show the impact of the spread offense. Houston, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech are looking better now than they were pre-2000. UNT, Rice, SMU, UTEP, and Texas have all stayed about the same. A&M is probably the one school I'd say has gotten worse over that time frame because they had some good years pre-Big 12. UTSA and Texas State are still new so I won't include them since they wouldn't have history to show any movement. I went and looked at their historical records because I was honestly curious if you were onto something, but since 9/10 teams showed improvement or little to no change I think it's fair to say we should look at other factors besides this one.
  16. I was watching the game to see the first drop but sounds like he had another in the 4th quarter inspiring this tweet. Chargers are pretty set with their 2 main receivers but there could be a spot on this roster for him to stick for next season. Days like today probably don't help his case much unfortunately.
  17. I believe this was his first career target in an actual game, but Jalen just dropped a very catchable deep route. Would have been a 40-50 yard gain.
  18. I think Todd Orlando would be a great hire, but I just don't see it. He had a bad year no doubt, but he will likely be on several P5 schools radars as a good coach they can get for cheaper than usual after this past year.
  19. I think both are right, all the sites make things much easier for those who choose to put in the work and watch stuff that way, but I think what he is trying to say is that the majority of schools and coaches just follow along with other's choices when it comes to offering vs not. You see it all the time that once 1 or 2 serious offers come through there will be a rush of several more, I think UNT even has a couple schools who seemingly offer shortly after we do on some guys. Specifically in this case and especially after reading the article I see a kid who seems like he would really appreciate a chance being taken on him, and unless a string of P5 offers come along I would like to think if we got in early we would have a really good chance. Hope the staff takes another look at this one.
  20. I know it's UNT gameday but Guyer just played a playoff game that will go down as one of the best. Down 41-14 halfway through the 3rd, they scored 36 unanswered, recovering 3 of their 4 onside kicks along the way to win 50-41, wow. Another impressive showing for Kaedric- 28 carries, 194 yards and 3 TD.
  21. Just looking over the roster and RB seems to be a position of need in the next couple of years for us, at least for depth. Sure we have 2 more years of Siggers and 4 of Adaway, but outside of that we lose Easly this offseason and then lose Smith, Torrey, and Johnson all in the same year. With only 1 RB commit currently was just curious what you guys thought of looking into a local kid? He caught my eye with his performance in the 1st round of playoffs tonight: 28 carries, 245 yards and 5 touchdowns against a good Hebron team. After a bit more digging he has a decent offer list so far, valedictorian of his class, and RB is a position I feel like you can never have too many of..thoughts? https://247sports.com/Player/Kaedric-Cobbs-46040505/
  22. Has since picked up offers from: Illinois State, Liberty, Tulsa, Kansas, Northwestern State, Cal, New Mexico, Texas State, Louisiana Lafayette, and Southern Miss. Our staff must be aware of this kid so I guess they just don't feel he's a good fit?
  23. Agreed, it will also match up 2 of the top quarterbacks in the nation, by far the 2 best in G5. Huge game, and I hope our defense will be ready because King is legit and in my opinion the most talented QB Littrell and co has had to face at UNT.
