Salsa_Verde replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Very exciting indeed. I don’t recall Texas ever coming to the Super Pit before this? -

Does the football team have an all green uniform combination? That might be interesting or is that too much?

Track and Field/ Soccer Complex Video
Salsa_Verde replied to Salsa_Verde's topic in Mean Green Athletics
I’ve never seen a track and field event at North Texas but I’ve been to many soccer games and they draw a decent size crowd every time. The crowd was maybe a hundred people but the stands are small and uncovered facing directly into the sun. The 1,000 seat capacity should be enough in my opinion. Although I would expect to see bigger crowds this upcoming season. -
It all comes down to which conference they would play in. The Big-12 only has OU, WV, Iowa St., Iowa and the University of Denver with gymnastics teams. No way you break into the PAC-12 or SEC. So the only option would be to play in a Div-II conference...which would put North Texas in direct compitetion with TWU...a powerhouse in gymnastics. It’s just not feasible.

There is a lot of talent in Texas in women’s gymnastics. Unfortunately no D-1 school sponsers women’s gymnastics in this state. TWU is Div-II. And unfortunately the SEC and PAC-12 are where all the talented gymnast want to go. They have crowds of up to 10K or more and have muliti-million dollar facilities. I just don’t think the squeeze is worth juice.

Cool video on the construction of the new track and field complex. Enjoy! GMG

I think TWU has gymnastics covered

I’m currently in Laramie visiting family that attends the University of Wyoming, I only say that to provide some context on what I’m about to say. First I understand the point you’re trying to make but these are two vastly different programs that I feel should not be compared. First of all...there is nothing out here. Laramie is small and supportive because what else are they going to do? The town lives or dies on the university. The IPF is a must up here, it’s Wyoming! North Texas is in a bigger market and has to compete with big time programs to get attention, Wyoming simply doesn’t have to do that. Everyone will eventually see this for themselves in 2026 I believe. GMG

September will provide great opportunities for wins against SMU and Arkansas. If North Texas beats SMU we are looking in great shape. The author is hoping for a sellout at Apogee against SMU. GMG https://swcroundup.com/news/2018/5/17/north-texas-september-provides-opportunity

Interesting to see if these schedules will change drastically after 2022-23. That’s when the next round of realignments are being predicted to happen.

I know nothing about tennis, that being said, I think she deserves some recognition as the first ever selection from North Texas to the NCAA Singles Championships. She needs two victories in the tournament to be an All-American, also a first in the program and she has notched a victory over the number two ranked player in the country back in February. Best of luck to her! -GMG http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/w-tennis/spec-rel/051818aab.html

College Football Starting Quarterback Rankings for 2018

I see Arkansas, Cal, Texas A&M on the schedule the next three seasons. Along with Houston, albeit not a P5 school it’s still an important regional matchup. -
College Football Starting Quarterback Rankings for 2018
Salsa_Verde replied to bdan2002's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m really hoping for a win against a P5 team in the near future. -
Do want you want to do, it’s your life. Just please don’t blame everyone else for your inability to repay your student loans or find a job or say that college needs to be free. Life is about choices and if you want to blow 100K on studying geography or underwater basket weaving then that’s your choice don’t make other people pay for it. Thank you and have a nice day

I like that the idea of naming a non athletic building after Mean Joe Greene. I’ll be bold and say that most student athletes would be aware of who he is. Non student athletes who don’t know who he is may look up his history out of curiosity, based on the fact that they live in the dorm. A perfect opportunity to spread athletic culture and history.

DRC: UNT to install new turf at Apogee
Salsa_Verde replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m just hoping to hear more news about the IPF being built soon. The article states a few months...how much is a few? 😅 -
I think the end zones look great, I’m not as enthused about the SOW over the state of Texas...I’m a fan of just leaving that by itself, it’s a great logo and can stand alone but I understand they’re trying to build up a brand. I know some are also not a fan of incorporating UNT into more merchandising and branding but I think it’s going to be used more and more. GMG
