The sad thing is that I wanted SL gone, but he would have beat this team because PB would have gotten more stops than Caponi.

I am late to the board, but we should have gone under center on that first drive when we were on the 1 foot line. That is typical of these Mike Leach air raid guys. It is the same thing SL would have done. These guys are only good from 20-20. After that, they suck because the field is compressed and they hire the worst DCs. We lost by three points and that first drive was were we lost those points because we left them out there.

The VB team beat Tulane 3-0 on Saturday and got the victory on Sunday 3-1 to defeat Tulane and open conference play at 2-0. Tulane is not great, but I think this was a great win. Congrats to Coach Porter and the Lady Mean Green.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know anything about soccer because I have never really cared for the sport. That being said, I would think that 6-0 against any team is a significant margin. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Beating Rice this badly despite their record, does this mean our ladies are pretty good and not just CUSA good?

It was a PI. I was at the game and that official who should have called the PI seemed like he was getting paid by LT or he was salty that we were no longer in CUSA. He made several bad calls last night.

Vito also mentioned this in an article he wrote for DRC. "Febechi Nwaiwu could shift back to guard, where he excelled last season, Morris said. UNT moved him to right tackle this season when Jett Duncan moved inside to guard. The Mean Green are considering flipping them back to their original spots in the hope of sparking their running game." I think this is good. They just have to fix this defense now.

I just read Brett's article and in it he states "The Mean Green woke up this morning ranked dead last in the country with an average of 598.5 yards allowed per game. That’s 33 yards more than any other team in the country." This is bad. Very bad.

That's what I am talking about. The DC hire not the HC. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was saying hiring the DC was a bad hire by the HC. Then the DC brings in Coach Gary for D Line and his experience is a year as an assistant at North Crowley High School (which is not exactly a powerhouse HS football program) and he has 2 years as a GA. Then he hires Coach Kratch for LBs and his only experience is 5 years as a GA and 5 years as assistant director of player personal. There must be a reason that no one has offered him a coaching job after 10 years yet, we give him his first and it's at this level. I never liked this hire and hope he works out, but this is bad.

You are right. My point was that you don't have the players to play a 3-3-5 so why force it. Play a 4-3 until you get the guys to play 3-3-5. I don't think 3-3-5 is good anyway as a base defense until it is an obvious passing down, but that's just my opinion. It is there to stop the air raid type of offenses, but OC's are adjusting and running the ball down our throats. Then we are not getting much pressure with our three man front when they do pass which leaves the back end of the defense vulnerable.

That may be true, but good coaches have to evaluate what they have and adjust accordingly.

Damn. If I am Coach Morris, I am playing this on repeat all week. I am going to let the players and coaches know that this is what the football world thinks of us right now. We can either lay down and die or bow our backs and do something about it. Is it the right thing to do? I don't know, but it is what I would do.

I am not the AD or Prez, but if it's me, I am having the DC fired tonight. It may not salvage the year, but it will send a message to potential recruits that we will not tolerate mediocre coaching and we will seek out the best coaches to maximize their potential.

So we hire a HC that hires a DC whose only DC job was as a DC at a D3 school. Other than that he has travelled the coaching circuit as a position coach and he thinks it's a great idea to give him a DC position because he has been a position coach on a defense that did well because their DC was better.

At this point Caponi has to go. I know I am a keyboard warrior and the HC should not overreact, but this is on him. He has to make the hard decisions and this is one of them. Caponi's defense and his inexperienced staff need to go.
