As a new fan, it is clear the culture of this program is complete shit.    It may seem like a little thing, but in my 40 plus years of watching football, I can't remember ever seeing a team celebrate like they did after scoring and still being down 35 points.  Dancing around, pre planned handshakes and practiced chest bumps etc.   That is a massive indicator that there are serious problems with this program.   Ive seen bad stuff, but that stood out to me like nothing I can remember.   This program is going nowhere with the kind of leadership that not only allows that to happen, but has guys who's heads are all screwed up to think thats ok.    A real disgrace, and totally classless and disrespectful to the fans

I will take this over guys not showing up to practice (Todd Dodge) or players being arrested for stupid stuff (Dan McCarney).

  2. 2016 was also considered a bad class. No one from McCarney's staff recruited, and Littrell had just weeks to assemble a class. We ranked 102 in the country and from my count, we didnt use all 25 scholarship spots. We had already been down in the total scholarship count as well if I recall. The class was led by Nic Smith, a 3 star RB. Mason Fine, Rico Bussey Jr, and Khairi Muhammad were 2 star prospects who happened to out perform their assessment. Some of this class either didnt make it more than a couple years, have graduated because we used them right away, but we do not have many RS Seniors left from this class. That lack of 5 year seniors is also hurting us. Dieon Hair-Griffin and Nic Smith are it. Everyone else has come after. No one wanted to play at North Texas because we were a losing program. The first two classes were ranked low because that stigma was still there. It took these 2 star athletes to outperform their numbers to win 9 games and get into a few bowl games to make other prospects want to show up. They need time to develop. We have a new Defensive Coordinator who had almost no spring football and just a few weeks before the season to teach 19-22 year olds how he wants to do things. The offense will be fine. We do have 2 brand new QBs that are trying to fill in a legend's shoes. That is not easy to swallow or live up to. SMU did recruit well and they have maybe a top 5 QB in the country. He would be starting at almost any P5 school if he had transferred there. That kind of leadership and skillset can make other players around you better. Look at what Mason Fine did and he didnt even have those accolades like Beuchelle does. Lets get through Houston and then we can assess how good or bad we are in the conference we were given.

I wish Mason had redshirted after playing the first four games last season.

He could have then played this season without it counting against his eligibility, and then played again next year for his final senior season.

Whew! Think about the NCAA records that could be set.

Or just Redshirted his Freshman season like a normal person. 5 wins was great after going 1-11, but we would have been happy here with just 3 that year lol.

Has he learned enough about the recruiting game and made enough connections with high-school coaches (probably not) to warrant having that coveted paid position?   If the job was based on football knowledge alone, then I'd go for it.  But it's not.

Its for a position coach. Not the Offensive Coordinator. He just needs to be able to bring in 1 QB per class, for now. Drummond is already set for 2021.

  5. I know its been said about the crowded QB room, but I really think Kason Martin would be an FCS transfer and maybe even Will Kuehne, but his family has roots to UNT. Too many young QBs with Bryce Drummond coming and Gilmore being eligible next year. Add in the Corona +1 deal too. Our dept for the forseeable future without transfers:

2020: Bean (RS Soph), Aune (RS Soph), Martin (RS Soph), Kuehne (RS Fresh)
2021: Bean (RS Soph)/Gilmore (RS Fresh), Aune (RS Soph), Martin (RS Soph), Kuehne (RS Fresh), Drummond (RS)
2022: Bean (RS Jr)/Gilmore (RS Soph), Aune (RS Jr), Martin (RS Jr), Kuehne (RS Soph), Drummond (RS Fresh), New QB?
2023: Bean (RS Sr)/Gilmore (RS Jr), Aune (RS Sr), Martin (RS Sr), Kuehne (RS Jr), Drummond (RS Soph), New QB(s)?
2024: Gilmore (RS Sr)/Kuehne (RS Sr)/Drummond (RS Jr), New QBs
    2025: Drummond (RS Sr), etc.

I can see Aune being a career backup and mentor like Shanbour was.
