  1. Having visited the campus, that's about par for the course.
  2. How It Will All Go Down: (1) Wilson wins (2) Wilson hired by better school (3) NCAA finds recruiting violations at UTSA (4) UTSA sanctioned (5) Wilson flops at better school (6) Profit
  3. I doubt there's no interest. The kids and their parents do tell schools they are not considering them. And, that was probably the case here. In fact, I think that is part of what is driving our early offers and commitments to so many players with only FCS and Division II offers: our staff has already been told by enough kids at any given position that they are not coming. So, the staff has to do something in order to get kids signed at all.
  4. To me, it is what it is. If there is a higher ranked guard that happens to be in another state, we should go for them. The problem with these state-only recruiting things is that we don't only play state colleges. We play schools from different parts of the country as well as Texas. BillySee does some good math. I do a math set as well: -There are 12 FBS schools in the state -Assume each school gets two or three guards per class -Getting guys ranked in the 30s puts us behind the vast majority of Texas schools getting Texas talent at that position. Again, though, the college football universe is broader than Texas. So, how do they stack up regionally? Nationally? If I'm in the Southland Conference and getting these guys, I'm feeling really good about the future. Because I'm not, and my alma mater is an FBS, I'm feeling like i have to hope one of them works out well enough to start as a upperclassman. It's not that the kids aren't good kids. I'm certain they are. It's just that, this type of recruiting is what it is: same as always for us. The other amazing thing about the Texas preps listed here: http://247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/CompositeRecruitRankings?State=TX -Of the Top 10, only one is committed to a Texas schools. -Of the Top 20, only three. UT doesn't check in until #20. The fall of the Big 12 has really allowed the nation to get a firm grip on Texas recruits. A&M, though they opened the door wider for the SEC, isn't really the beneficiary either. LSU and Alabama combined are whipping them in Texas...again. Don't know what the answer is other than, at some point, OU and Texas simply throw in the towel and join a more competitive conference. Our bottom line is simple, though: we are not getting the best players in Texas...or, the second best...or, even the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth. etc., best. With very few exceptions, we are picking off guys with FCS and Division II offers. It's just not good for the long term. We're at the bottom of a Texas prep food chain that none of the Texas schools are feeding well upon.
  5. Good get. We've got a neighbor whose son began basic training at AFA on June 28 as well. When he comes home during the winter, I'll flag him down and ask if he knew this fella.
  6. ADDENDUM: Shows here that he already went from private to public, then back to private: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2016/08/15/preseason-private-school-football-rankingsprestonwood-christian-will-good-best 2014: Parish Episcopal 2015: W.T. White 2016: Parish Episcopal Now...North Forney for 2017. Go figure. I agree with that...to a point. Seeing this kid move around so much as a high schooler, though, just has that August DeBiase feel to it. I guess the difference is that Mayfield does actually have some legitimate FBS offers. (Also - and, this is a joke, so those easily pulled offsides, relax - if Texas Tech really has offered him as a CB, that probably doesn't say a whole lot for his talent level on that side of the ball.)
  7. Don't see any confirmed offers from OU or Arkansas. I think this kid is talking out his backside. I don't think this will stick either. The kid is moving from a private school to a public school this year. My guess is he's made the move for more exposure die to not getting the type of offers he (and, probably, his dad) want. I think he's gaming UTSA. He, perhaps, has nothing to lose. If he really is good, and can put up the same type of numbers/performance in a large public school district as he did in TAPPS, he'll likely garner P5 offers. However, if he doesn't perform well, he'll already be committed to UTSA. You just wonder if UTSA will keep the offer out if he tanks in the bigger, more competitive atmosphere. If they do, he'll not really gambling all that much. But we'll see.
  8. For pete's sake, it will all come down to this: if the football program and men's basketball program keep failing, Baker will be gone with the current coaches. If both keep failing, he's overpaid them.
  9. Anyone else see ol' Tommy Tuberville putting his two cents in on the Hugh Freeze deal? Likely angling for the old job there where years ago he said they "have to carry him out of there in a pine box" a couple of days before he ditched them for the Auburn job. Good ol' Tommy Tuberville. Never met a program he couldn't leave...while promising to stay.
  10. First subject, Lane Kiffin. Second subject, Little Briles Third Subject, Hugh Freeze Conflate them: Given Kiffin's willingness to ignore Little Briles' allegedly trashy opinion about white women in relation to non-white football players, and coach Freeze's apparent zeal for the Ladies of Craigslist, is it too much conjecture to expect that Freeze ends up in Boca Raton under Kiffin's employ within the next 12 months or so? I'll hang up and listen.
  11. #NewAndImprovedDenton ... ? #AlmostAt85ScholiesNowDenton ... ?
  12. Because I don't know all of the contractual details that we have with the C-USA, can someone explain to me why we (and other schools similarly situated, I suppose) can't produce our own home games and have a deal with a local station to broadcast? Am I mistaken to say/believe that is what we do with radio (games and coaches shows)? I assume we give up a certain amount of media rights to the conference. I also understand a local station would expect us to sell enough ad time during the game to make it worth their while. Is this something we've tried in the past? I ask this because, for the G5s mostly, it seems like producing your own content tailored to your very specific audience seems to be the "future now here" in many industries. Can a media or media/ad purchasing expert here give us the inside baseball on this type of thing?
  13. On a side note, gleaned from the piece on KIffin: "Kiffin also spent time Thursday explaining his decision to hire Kendal Briles as offensive coordinator. The former Baylor assistant was named in a lawsuit against the school alleging he told recruits that "white women" love the team's players, as part of his recruiting pitch." There have always been people here who wondered allowed why we didn't hire Briles. I've always opposed it because he'd been in trouble with the NCAA before his dad was. If the information about his mindset in the lawsuit/investigation is true, FAU will shortly have the NCAA all up in their grill.
  14. I've got a cousin who for years was the head remote guy at ESPN: http://events.sportsvideo.org/csvs2011/2011/03/18/steve-cozort-senior-director-of-remote-and-studio-operations-espn/ For awhile back in the late 90s, he was based in Dallas. He's got his own production company these days, but it's based out of Charlotte, NC. I could hit him up and ask him what would be the realistic cost of producing your own stuff. Although, my guess is, our Radio/TV program has enough people in the industry to know what it is already. With as many media savvy grads as we've had throughout the years, you'd think we'd be leading this thing.
  15. Has anyone written a book yet called, "The Restless Penis: How It Gets Men Of All Ages, Education Level, Income Level, And Social Status Into Trouble." If not, Hugh Freeze should be considered to write the Forward. It all goes back to The Ticket's Gordo and his constant referral to men getting into trouble over that one small part of the female anatomy. If they would all just heed Roxette and listen to their hearts instead of their penises. In all seriousness, though, the denial from Hugh Freeze is the icing on the cake. Losing a very public $5 million jobs to the inability to police up his penis, though, maybe denial is the first stage in admitting he has a problem.
  16. Thanks, I already understand that you will be among those to excuse a loss to UAB as if it were something natural and expected. And, yes, Bill Clark would be a good get for Ole Miss...just, check his phone records first! And, as a I-AA school, no less. I don't think any of us were ever worried about Corky Nelson having a team ready back in the day. I'll add this about standards, if we leave September with a 2-3 record, with the only wins against FCS Lamar and re-start UAB, we'll go into the bye week the first week of October not really knowing what this team is about.
  17. UAB has not played football for two years. I don't care what they did in 2014, or who has transferred in there. If they gel and start beating people in late October or November, that's one thing. But, when they play us, we will be facing a team full of players who have only played three games together in two years...at the FBS level! And, they will have only played one school, Ball State, who will have been FBS for longer than a year. Let me just say this...if UAB is winning games in September...if they get out of September 2-2 with wins against us and Ball State, they will be looking for a new head coach for 2018 because some P5 will snatch up Bill Clark. And, my guess is, the leader would be an Auburn tired of watching Guz Malzahn's 8-5, 7-6 act as Alabama keeps winning. Clark is a Bama native, successful high school coach there before catching on with Bama colleges South Alabama, Jacksonville State, and UAB. I don't believe Bill Clark is so good, though, that he can take a team that hasn't played in two years and make them competitive first year out of the box. If he does, it will be bad news for us because it will show how slow our coaching staff is at keeping up (or, even, getting up) and good news for him because Auburn of someone else will make him a very rich man in 2018.
  18. No. I will not be fearful. Alabama A&M lost 55-0 to Middle Tennessee and Auburn in 2016. Ball State was 4-8...those four wins coming against Georgia State. Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, and Buffalo. Coastal Carolina is an FCS call up to the Sun Burp this season. They played no FBS schools in 2016. Because all of those schools are suspect, going 3-0 against them tells me nothing. Even a win over Ball State tells me nothing because the season before the Cardinals never beat anyone of any consequence. If we cannot beat UAB, we are in serious trouble. And, I would even go so far as to say, if we don't beat them by two or three touchdown, we're having serious problems either on offense or defense. I feel the same way about Lamar. If they are within 21 of us at the final gun, that's a problem. Even if the score is 21-0. If we can only hang 21 on them, that's an offensive nightmare. Here's the thing: there has to be a real standard. What competition level do you expect from a $1 million coach, highest paid coaching staff in the school's history, playing in the best stadium the school has ever had. For all of that, the standard to me is, you move the ball easily against FCS-level programs. You beat schools who lose often. You give body bag game opponents hell and are not being blown out at half. Look at the Iowa game, too, folks. You are looking at a guy Kirk Ferentz who is under constant pressure for "underperforming," according to their fan base. Unlike Nick Saban, who began pulling starters in the second quarter against us a few years back, Ferentz allowed the Hawkeyes to hang 62 on us a couple of seasons ago. He will run up a score. His buddy Bob Stoops retired from Oklahoma. He will be under pressure to win or the alumni will be breathing the name "Bob Stoops" down his neck all year. Not that I think Stoops will come out of retirement. But, that's how fans are. Their fans will expect them to run roughshod over us. They will be coming off their annual rival game with Iowa State, which they've split 3-3 over the past six seasons. A poor showing or loss to Iowa State, and they will be absolutely bloodthirsty when we roll in the next weekend. If we are f*cking arround against Lamar, excusing a loss to SMU, which has yet to have a winning season with SMU Jesus, Iowa will slaughter us. UAB should be a bit of a break after back-to-backs against "rival" to George Dunham SMU and Iowa. And, the week before we have to travel to Southern Miss. I say, it should be. What I'm saying is that if it isn't, Lucy will have some 'splaining to do - five games into a 12 game slate.
  19. You are asking me if I will be fearful of UAB if they beat Alabama A&M, Ball State, and Coastal Carolina?
  20. We're talking about our athletic department and how it would show we are going nowhere if we are in a league that continues to take start up and FCS call ups. I could care less whether the Big Bang or Creation Theories are ever proven. I'm only going to be alive another 30 or so years, God willing, because I do believe in God. But... ...in the realm of athletics, it doesn't build us up to be stuck in this horrible start up/FCS call up league that Britton Banowsky cobbled together before he left. Creation vs. Big Bang has nothing to do with it for me. If the Sun Burp wants Liberty, that's fine. But, can we just stave off this kind of sh*t for a little while longer before Texas and OU bolt the Big 12 and we're forced together with them anyway? Why are we supposed to put the bullet in our own head? If we're going to die, we should die with our boots on - if we're going to die.
  21. Yes, very far from. That Portland State team beat Mike Leach's Wazzu program at Wazzu to open the season, beat us, and five FCS-ranked schools, and went into the second round of the FCS playoffs. That Portland State squad would beat UAB...and, so should we. I can tell that this is going to go like all other coaches before - epic losses, lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth, with people crying aloud that the new staff inherited a bad hand and could never recover. If we lose to UAB, it'll be the same horsesh*t theme we've seen played out time after time after time over the better part of three decades now. So, the solution is to man up and not lose to a program that hasn't played football in two years.
