It is crazy how many people I talk to - whether they went to UNT the same time I did, or whether they went to UNT 20 years ago like my boss - who have still never been to a single basketball game.

There is a disgusting amount of people I know that religiously watch their T-shirt school every Saturday but is like pulling teeth to get them to UNT games. Both football and basketball. The excuses are always the same. But it all comes back to the lack of engagement when we were in school.

  2. The school just hasn’t figured out how to engage a bigger percentage of the student body. Getting them to care while they’re on campus is so important because once they graduate, it’s much harder. For every 10 people I knew while in school, maybe 7 of them watched any college sports and probably 2-3 of them cared about UNT sports. So how do they bridge that gap is the question.

The two HS kids we have lined up appear to be nice players (Taylor ranked the #20PG in this class), and based on last year's success, I think it's safe to say he knows what he's doing when finding guys in the portal & JUCO.

Taylor’s size scares me but the kid is incredibly talented. I think Mason is going to be a stud that might push for minutes Year 1.

They're having to play this game at Seton Hall's old gym because they share their current arena with the NJ Devils and are now playing an unscheduled game.  As much as we can complain about athletics not owning the Super Pit, this happens other places too.

This is actually pretty cool. Adds to the character of the tournament. Someone ask Jared if they can get the OG snake pit prepared.

I'm going to reverse this and say we need to be able to fill our current home when you have 40,000 on campus, not counting faculty and staff, 150,000 in Denton and over 200,000 alumni living in DFW.  Pack the Pit.

There’s a middle ground here somewhere. I get that we SHOULD be able to fill it but we’re not. I think everyone agrees that something needs to be done but the increase from last year is definitely a positive sign.

  6. I think you can be upset that they left and also understand why they did. They (Tylor more than Abou) had an opportunity to make some money for their family and potentially get more exposure for the next level. I think a lot of player movement is short sighted but I understand.

also, I hope Rubin/Aaron are talking all the sh*t to them today lol

Was just about to post this. Pretty solid post by Kennedy.

UAB/UNT basketball has a great deal of respect for each other. Makes our battles so enjoyable. I hope AK sticks around bc they make us and the conference better.

  8. Was looking at some data for this game and found some interesting stats..

Robert Allen is statistically our most important player (ranking 1st in offense, 3rd on defense according to BPR). Buggs is 7th then there is a LARGE drop off to Stone/Sissoko.

Best 5 man lineup? Edwards, Noland, Buggs, Jones, Allen. Worst? Edwards, Noland, Stone, Scott, Sissoko.
