Wow! The first place I've heard where a President is lower than an AD.

If this happens, now we'll know where the President stands with regard to athletics.

I gave him a C for average. Yeah, today's grade inflation make it a B+ but I'm old fashioned.

This Tier "excellence" is measured in grant dollars. Research reputations are created by the number of top investigators a university has. UT started its push for a national reputation in the early 1970's, "buying" Nobel laureates like Weinberg in physics. UNT is definitely less well regarded than NTSU was. Too many science graduate programs have dumbed down their curricala. Starting in 2000, I started seeing undergraduate textbooks being used for graduate level courses, something that never happened before. Getting this new Tier status symbol will not help attract the best students in DFW or Texas.

What really happens at universities is that all the employees become like the bad supervisor. This spreads like cancer, and it is impossible to change the culture of mediocrity after a few years. Sadly, RV didn't create the atmosphere of mediocrity, people before him did.

Hope is a difficult thing to kill. I feel UNT90' s pain.

Here is the UNT response: “The university encourages others to have respectful discussion of the matter and attempt to see the situation from all points of view.” It looks like the President is only a figurehead, not a leader.

It is quickly becoming apparent that the President is ok with lying and mediocrity. I'm more upset with him than with RV.

@Harry, no, the UT satellite schools do not claim the horns as their own. In fact, UT Austin would never allow a system school advertise any longhorn pride. Both Texas and A&M have their systems to keep other schools down and out. Only California has the wisdom of having a real "system", probably the best in the world.

I don't think it matters. UT is going to make their Houston campus a medicine oriented school. I doubt there will be any athletics there. Think of it as a UT-Dallas but with a medical twist.

UT-Dallas was established as a science power house in the 60's. UH is lights years behind. Tier 1 doesn't mean anything to scientists.

What consequences are there if Benford is given an extension no matter what? Will RV get fired? Will less people go to games?

@UNT90, it is NOT amazing. Sadly, most universities in Texas are run by BAD used car salesmen,only UT and A&M seem to know what they are doing. With the current decline of our society, I am already seeing cracks in them also.

Actually there are. UNT seems to be one of them.

Maybe President Smatresk likes the status quo? I cannot list any revolutionary changes.

I try to view this as continuing education from UNT.
