  1. Honestly I have never seen 3 defensive holding penalties in a half (3 called in the first half I believe) without any offensive holding penalties. It was so one-sided that if Wren is the AD we all think he is, then he was filling out the paperwork for CUSA review for the first half alone at halftime.
  2. 1. Beat SMU, and go 6-6 in year one, missing out on a bowl game but drawing enough interest from new recruits to bring in a quality QB. 2. Year two: go 7-5; bowl game, and continue the upward trajectory of the program. 3. Year three: 8-4 Playing the CUSA championship or securing a bowl win. 4. Thereafter: building another 3 years of winning seasons. Or, retain him as long as we can 'till a big school pays to have him as a HC.

  5. 7 Questions: 1. Who is the 'we' in RV's statement of "we still have things to finish here"? 2. Does not an employee work for the interests of the university instead of personal interests? 3. In terms of 'finish' does that imply the further destruction of the major sports programs at NT? 4. In terms of 'finish' does it mean to add more athletic programs to poorly managed athletic oversight that seems to have reached its lid/potential? 5. Does RV have hubris because he thinks that he created something at NT? Did he not destroy just as much, if not more? 6. How does RV know that there is a minority that support his dismissal? Did he survey the silent majority? 7. Does RV not have the humility to approach his job with a modicum of respect to the direction the President chooses to take this university in?
  6. I hope they would have the fight to not go 0-12. But, I am worried that we will. The good thing with 0-12 is that wholesale changes must happen. The bad thing is that everyone makes fun. It means a year of not wearing any NT gear in public.

  8. I hope a date would be given at semester end or the week prior. There needs to be communication on this from the top before December 18th. I mean, it's already going to miserable watching all the holiday bowl games roll out (especially if we are winless)...so give us some stinkin' hope at least for Christmas.
  9. I think the trend started with high school football. High school football has changed to where most schools stack their offenses with talent. I think you have seen this in the typical high school game. Every play is designed to score a touchdown. Defenses are fast but can't cover the space on the field as well created by the spread O and trickery of the multi-dimensional QB. I would be curious how many colleges recruit O first and settle on lesser recruits for defense.

  11. Did you watch the Portland State highlight reel? The team never showed up to play...especially the defense. They do not deserve spectators. They must earn my attendance. Why would I go to support quitters? I coach too...and those players should be ashamed of their effort, discipline, and performance. How will there be an improved product on-field if the players do not work to get better? My attendance does not matter at this point because the players mentally have shut down and have lost the desire to improve and get better. Therefore, they won't. There is little pride, self-respect, sustained effort, work ethic, or accountability that I can see among the players on the team. Do better. Period.

  13. Feel bad for one of the high school recruits they got out of McKinney North - Ronald Jones. He's a great athlete and student and was starting to show signs of promise as a true Freshman for them. I hope they can bring in a coach who can spread the field more and has his personal issues in order.

I realize those were Portland State's highlights, but it looked like UNT had no clue what they were doing.   15. Exactly what has Canales done? Not much. Look at our Quarterback situation. Look at our recruits. Look at our offensive production. Numbers don't lie. Canales' contract will not be renewed. If so, I will never go to a game until he he is out of there. Our offense is THE WORST!!!! Defense sucks too, but not as bad as the offense. This will be a 0 win season or 1 win at most. Kiss this season good-by. I am so friggin' glad I did not buy ANY tickets this year.
  16. Was pulling for Mac but had no idea we would be not only winless at 5 games in but destroyed by Portland State at the start of the season. It's a tough departure and means a winless season. I do not see us winning regardless if he leaves now or at the end of the season. The team is not that good. Coaching is poor all around. The recruits are better at the other schools that we have lost to. Chico needs to go, AD needs to go. Also, from an earlier post someone wrote, it is the offensive system that gets the recruits. We need a system like Baylor. Every play has the potential to score. Defenses have to choose how they will respect the space created on the field by receiving and running options. Football has evolved in Texas. It's time for it to evolve at UNT.
  17. I admit, I am quick to count this team out just like I did with the 2004 team that lost 4 straight. I remember watching the first 4 weeks in agony as our offense looked inept and the defense showed toughness but had not played a complete game. Could the turnaround happen in 2 weeks? If the team played mistake-free football from Portland to the end of season could we do the seemingly impossible and win out? It's been done before. So, don't say it can't happen. Personally, I do not see why it can't happen. I just hate that it takes 4 regular season games to figure things out!
  18. I think the 3 reasons given by Tlgreen01 are solid reasons why Mac won't be let go. I feel that Mac is a good coach and can bring in great hires. In regards to the OC position, my question then becomes one of timing. Will they fire Canales mid-season or wait until after the season is over? In my opinion, if we are winless after 5 games then a prompt change needs to be made to send a message to the fans and the university.
  19. Responding to: "If Mac sticks exclusively with the status quo under center after a Portland loss, I would honestly start to be concerned about the guy." I don't see how firing Mac would be possible given his contract. If we are 0-5 after Portland after trying AM, and exhausting all back-ups, then someone's head will roll and it should be Canales. If none of the QB's can get it done at that point he needs to be terminated. If we are winless headed into the Portland game and if by halftime we are losing and Mac does stick with the status quo, then I'm sure there will be serious discussions post-season based on that coaching decision if the game turns out to be a loss. I add the qualifiers because we all know how slow the BOR are at matters such as this. Recent history (Dodge) tells us so.
  20. I remember when Canales was interviewing for the Sam Houston position after the HOD Bowl. At that point, I felt like he had called a great game and did not want to see him leave. Given the situation last season, it is clear that he has limited skill in QB development and coordinating the offense. Last year was clearly upsetting and it looks like this year could be very much the of the same thing (just disguised/re-named as up-tempo). Clearly, the defense will be the saving grace to bring us to another 4 win season. Canales needs to go mid-season if our only win by that time is Portland. Bring in a true Coordinator who is skilled at play calling and QB development. Or, make 2 distinct hires in a QB Coach and a Coordinator. It was frustrating to see how unprepared the offense looked in a bye week opener. Terrible routes from the WRs, poor play-calling, and special teams. All-in-all, it's time to say good bye to Canales and look for more candidates who can call a game given the personnel on the field (since you have not developed what you have to the extent that you trust them to actually do well).
