  1. I want us to be the destination. Finally shake the directional state university stigma. If not we should have stayed in the southland conference and played SFA, SHSU, etc.
  2. "Maybe they are quitting on purpose. Perhaps it is Machiavellian. A loss like this certainly makes a statement. If it isn't a munity then I am speechless.
  3. Total embarrassment. Who gets the blame this time?
  4. Language Arts building. I was a bartender on Fry Street. Rick's and later the Tavern. Back then there wasn't a single facility to talk to a man about a horse. Many a shift I made the sprint to the LA building and its clean porcelain goodness. I loved my time at UNT. Probably why I stretched a 4 year degree to 6 years.... This has been a good thread. It is the first time since the SMU game where I smiled while reading the posts. I am sorry I wont' be in town for Homecoming. Regardless of how the team plays, it is always a special time in Denton. Sure the older alumni have moved on from Fry Street to the Square but the vibe is the same. Just like Toby Kieth said, "I ain't as good as I once was, but I am good once as I ever was." That could be the motto for all of alumni stumbling around town fondly remembering our past glories. We may have fallen on hard times again with our team. But they are OUR team. Cheer them up for me and raise a toast in their honor. Perhaps they will surprise us. We know better than most how good it feels when we win. It doesn't happen often so we cherish it! Go Mean Green! Beat Portland State!!!!
  5. I don't like any of the back line but Johnson. Beasley is terrible. I am shocked he is still a member of the U.S. National Team. I have not been impressed with Beckerman, but he is light years beyond Zusi. I was excited by wins against Holland and Germany, but the Brazil loss was demoralizing, thank god I am a UNT football fan so lopsided losses don't affect me too badly. Not playing Yedlin is a mistake. His pace gives opposing teams fits. I am not sure why he isn't in the starting 11. Jozy Altidore is the Jennifer Annison of U.S. Soccer. Everybody wants him to immerge as the potent striker we all want him to be. However in the end he just lets us down. I may have to leave Jennifer alone, she has finally tied the knot with someone. People would always wonder why she was single. I, having no firsthand knowledge would say "it is because she sucks." Why else is a hot woman single? The tipping point in this game is that USA has Mexico's number. It may be psychological, but we own them. I don't think Klinsman is in trouble. I don't like his insistence on foreign born "U.S. players", but he has made up competitive on the international scene. However if his team doesn't believe in him or his system than it may be time to go. Just my two cents. Go U.S.A. and Go Mean Green
  6. Can he under throw out routs and hand the ball off on third and long? If so he is definitely our guy!
  7. Quote of the day. Wish I had the standing to award that! Every position should be an open competition. I know in football the QB gets the blame, but the is PLENTY to go around! McNulty has earned some pine time. Give Smith a chance to settle into a game. What is the worst that can happen? A lopsided loss?
  8. I think we have more alumni mad that we are on that list!!!!!
  9. I agree, yet how can you evaluate talent without effort? You can forgive lack of size, speed, or even talent. Lack of effort is harder to stomach.
  10. I haven't seen evidence of hard work. I don't know where anyone can see hard work w/ a team that is 0-4 who has been blown out in nearly every game. Bad fundamentals and low football IQ. Those aren't indicative of a hard working team. I blame the coach for letting this situation get out of hand, but the players are not totally innocent. This isn't a high school team. This is a FBS football team. They are young men, not kids. If I offended anyone then get thicker skin, this is a UNT football forum. It isn't a happy place...
  11. I will be in our nation's capital for homecoming weekend. At least I will be surrounded by people of honor, integrity and character to help me thru this rough time in our schools football life.....
  12. If history is any indicator than yes we are. The issue is that the alumni are tired of being a doormat. We will no longer write checks to a university who isn't scared to ask when the team is terrible. There are reasons some of the schools on that list are having trouble competing. UTEP, NMSU, UNM and Wyoming are at the end of civilization. They are scratching for unrecruited kids from Texas and California. Plus they fill their gaps w/ transfers and JUCO kids. Kansas is a basketball school. FIU, USF and FAU get the scraps from the area SEC schools and ACC blue bloods FSU and Miami. Vanderbilt is in the SEC but they have academic standards while the rest of the conference plays football. The directional Michigan schools are in the heart of big 10 country and fight over recruits. We on the otherhand are the largest university in the metro-plex. We finally have nice facilities and are in a cool, if quirky college town. The days of commuter school are over. Sure lots still commute, but many live in Denton. The most important fact is WE ARE IN TEXAS, THE HOT BED OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!!!! We need a guy who doesn't look at our history but at our potential. I was at UNT in the early to mid 1990s. Boise State had just started to make some moves. If you can pull that off in Boise, Idaho, why is it so hard in Denton, Texas? Sorry for dissertation.
  13. It is always a good idea to take the high road. If not you are too easily marginalized as a nut. I don't know young Mr. Gooding, however if he or some other student called out the team and the coaches as quitters I would applaud him. The truth hurts, no matter how you package it!
  14. I am dreading that game. It is awful when teams like WKU beat us like Oklahoma and other P5 teams used to beat us.
  15. I would hold off on calling Southwest (I refuse to call them Texas State) a success. Too soon to call.
  16. Amazing young man. Honored he is a fellow alumni of UNT! With that type of attitude I believe him!!!
  17. I thought UNT vs Rice on 09/27/2008 under Dodge was the low point. We may have a perfect storm on our hands to be the worst season of all time!
  18. We need new blood. Our culture of losing has to be totally eradicated. Scorched Earth Campaign. The product on field has been too bad for too long!
  19. I would respect Mac more if he just said the obvious. We haven't been a good team, in all facets of the game. He is the head coach. It is his responsibility to get the team ready to play. Period. Perhaps he should read President Harry S Turman's desk sign; The buck stops here!
  20. I would take Major Applewhite if he would take us. We need young and hungry. Not someone at the twilight of their career. Briles, Sumlin, maybe Applewhite is the next great coach to cut his teeth at University of Houston. However, Jim Leavitt would have experience at recruiting at a school who was an afterthought in the region and on a campus that is commuter oriented. The Bulls have never been the same after his departure. Not that there was much history, they started playing football in 1997!
  21. It would be shortsighted to say the Mac doesn't care about winning. However, much like many coaches who are close to retirement, the game has surpassed him. A similar situation happened to Mac Brown at UT. A coach will always want more time to build his team, his system, his strategy. That is why there is an athletic director (AD). The AD is responsible for making a realistic expectation for success. If the AD can't or won't make the tough call to hold people accountable then the President must step in. At this point it may be time for the alumni to withdraw financial support. I would not normally advocate this extreme measure but it may be the only way to push the issue. There is a culture of losing associated w/ UNT Football. From what I see on the field I don't see that changing. Offense is awful and bland. Defense has poor fundamentals and is incompetent in pass coverage. Special teams looks like they are entirely staffed by walk-ons (not our kicker, he is great) who don't care to be there. Well coached teams block, tackle, catch, and play special teams. We fail at all of those areas. I don't mind that we get beaten (much...), but I hate to see us look sloppy, lost in coverage schemes, and committing penalties. I am not a negative guy but each week it is harder to see anything worth cheering about! “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing” – Edmund Burke
  22. 24-10 PSU. Don't see a lot of fight or pride in this team.
  23. He was having a break out year when the Cowboys needed it. I hope he can make a recovery. That is a bad injury if he tore the ACL and MCL. You can bet he will have world class care so there is a chance he will be back. Good luck young man. You have given UNT football fans something to cheer for this year. The football gods are cruel. Especially this year!
