  1. 22,500 will be in the area intending to attend. 19,800 will come inside the gates. Official announcement will be 24,800....
  2. This will be my first game not in the club level. My well heeled buddy is so disgusted he didn't renew his season tickets. I just hope the beer lines aren't long. This is Denton Texas, a town based on drinking. What happens on the field is so depressing you have to drink in the stands!!!!
  3. The don't like to lose to us. Got it. I just don't think it is much more than that. Specifically because they "believe" they are better than us. On and off the field.
  4. Dallas Morning News called UNT one of 4 in-state rivals. At least that is the piece I read. I don't live in Dallas so perhaps I am missing some in-depth piece into the rivalry. I would bet the students and alumni don't share that opinion. At least last year at Ford Field the rank and file SMU crowd could care less that we were there.
  5. Now that football season is starting I would like to hear the board's opinion of who is UNT's rival for football? I know many may say it is SMU, but a rivalry is two ways. They don't rate us. We are the poor public school kids. They are the douche bags who paid private school prices for a public school education. As much as I would love a rumble with the South Side Socs, I mean what would be cooler than beating a guy and getting to say "stay gold pony boy" (forgive The Outsiders references). Outside of the illegality of a rumble, the ponies just wouldn't show. We aren't in their universe. So I pose the question, who is our rival? For me it cannot be UTSA. That gives them a certain legitimacy that I just can't stomach. We have been playing football for over 100 years, albeit mostly badly, but this johnny come lately just can't justify the visceral response that a rival brings. UTEP has regional rivals in UNM and NMSU, and they are UTEP (before you hate on me I am from El Paso. UTEP sucks). Perhaps we need to create one? My vote is LA TECH. Why? Because I know nothing about them. But what I do know: They are an established Div 1 program that is road trip distance from Denton, Texas. Sure so is Rice, but no one cares about RIce. Maybe LA TECH already has a rival like UL-Lafayette, or Louisiana Monroe. I don't know. But I think there is a chance would could build something... Anyways looking forward to the group's opinions. GMG!
  6. It would be a successful program. I believe the start up cost would not be as large as baseball from a facilities perspective. Neither would make money. I admit I am biased. I was a soccer player. I feel about baseball the way I am sure many of you feel about soccer. However if we get a team I would gladly support the them.
  7. Their co-eds looked hot in their dresses and cowboy boots. I can't believe I am the first guy to post that!
  8. This is sensationalist reporting. Imagine that in America... I don't have ill will towards the kid, and I only saw him in the season opener against us, but I can't believe he made up that much ground! However come September 3rd, like Paul Blake, I hope he enjoys his view from the bench!
  9. If we are on the topic of supporting non-revenue sports then why don't we bring back men's soccer? I was a successful program and the metroplex is a hotbed of talent for soccer. There are already existing facilities... However I may be biased!
  10. The cancellation of the men's program was a total shock, however thru that rough spot John was a class act. He even coached many of the former players in a bid for the U.S. Open cup as fledgling professional soccer players. Many people given John's circumstances could have been pissed at having to take on a women's program from scratch. John just worked hard and made us all proud. I hope one day he is truly recognized for his efforts, however of what little I knew of him from back in 1994 I doubt he would ask for any attention. GMG
  11. Congrats Coach Hedlund. He has come a long way form the guy who delivered the death blow to the Men's program 1994. He is a class act and runs an amazing program. Him and the women of UNT soccer deserve our admiration and thanks. As an alumni I am proud to be associated with both! GMG!
  12. UNT has done of poor job of marketing for awhile. I am glad steps are being made to showcase our appeal. Denton is an awesome place to go to school. It is about time we show it to the world. Or at least the state...
  13. I could do without the Denton, Texas tramp stamp, but it does look good.
  14. I visited Arkansas State last summer. They are taking themselves seriously. That is the first step. If you don't take yourself seriously no one else will...
  15. What last year's team did on homecoming was tantamount to mutiny. Everyone associated with this team needs to prove to the fan base that they are worthy of our support. I know that sounds harsh, but the players should expect that. They took drastic measures (the homecoming beat down). Now they need to earn our trust and respect. I bleed Green, but I don't have time for quitters. I hope Coach Littrell has the team ready to play 4 quarters. If he can do that then we will be competitive. We aren't a demanding fan base. Play hard, display sportsmanship, and we will cheer for 4 quarters. Win or lose. Go Mean Green, Beat SMU!!! See you all in the stands!
  16. I don't trust a man without a public intoxication/minor in possession under his belt. If you don't you just didn't do college right! Thank god there wasn't twitter, instagram, and whatever the hell else there is today when most of us were at UNT. If so we would be asking "do you want fries with that" instead of at our current positions. For the record I am not degrading fast food workers. It just isn't a job that becomes a career! Give the kid a break.
  17. Watched the Rice game on Saturday night. Saw no passion or desire. It was sad. Rice would kill to have BB facilities like UNT. However you can't clown them for playing in a high school type of gym when they beat you. The culture at UNT needs to change. It is embarrassing.
  18. He is exciting to watch, however he is terribly undersized. Rice is an interesting proposition if he has the grades. I don't know much about the young man but I wish him well. If UNT improves its brand then perhaps we would have a shot at kids like him. In our current state it isn't likely. Baseball or no baseball. The Aggies just aren't that good. Plain and simple. Never won the Big 12 and are middle of the road SEC West. It is a great school with a motivated fan base, however they have an over-inflated sense of greatness bordering on delusion. Aggie alumni can demand more, but historically they aren't a top tier team.
  19. College Football is uniquely American, however how we settle the National Champion is far from American. Our system is more akin to the Soviet Politburo. When a group of "elites" judge teams on nebulous criteria like strength of schedule and style points you have missed the mark! The FCS does it the correct way. They have a true champion. It could be done on the FBS level but for many reasons listed above by other posters it won't happen. I am not sure a G-5 school would go all the way, but under the current system we will never know if the Sun Belt or AAC champ is as good as the Big Ten, or SEC champ. 9-3 Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl 12-1 Houston in the Peach Bowl That isn't right. Period.
  20. Baylor looked pretty good losing to Texas this past Saturday... Boise was good before they started rolling out those new look uniforms. I see your point, but kids are lining up to play for Bama, LSU, OU and Texas. Those schools aren't changing their uniforms. I know we aren't those schools, just saying that for every school that tries the "new look", there are plenty of schools that keep it consistent.
  21. We had New Balance uniforms in the past! Be careful what you wish for!!!! I say remove any flashiness. Go for the basics. Hopefully it will be akin to taking the team back to basics. Block, Tackle, pass, catch, and learn your position. If we get those correct no one will care what our uniforms look like. This was my first season on GMG, although I have been a fan since I transferred to UNT in 1994. I know we didn't have much to cheer for this year, but next year is another year. I know we can't expect miracles, but if it is more of the same perhaps someone locate Serrano and his demi-god Jobu and see if we can sacrifice a live chicken! It is low hanging fruit, but +1 whoever gets the reference.
  22. I was sitting on UNTexas's couch w/ his step dad in 2001 when ESPN showed the highlight, it could have been 2002, I don't recall. Craig James still used UNTexas's name, not the kid who snapped the ball. UNTexas went nuts screaming at the TV saying "It was ...., not me!" In our circle of friends from UNT/Denton circa 1994 thru 2000 we still say it was UNTexas. However it isn't accurate. But since when does a good story have to be accurate! You always get 10 % bs for comedic value. If a girl is involved you can shoot for the moon!!! Good times fellas, good times. GMG
  23. Hopefully he wasn't at IU when we beat them...
