I'm not calling to fire anybody but the defense didn't play really good. We gave up 331 yards on the ground and were already the worst in rushing defense in the American before this game, giving up 241 yards a game.
If we aren’t the worst in all FBS after this weekend games are complete, I will be very surprised. We also should b near the bottom in overall defense. One more defensive performance giving up yards in line with our season averages and Caponi has to go imo. This was the week to admit he made a mistake playing a 3-3 alignment in the box and go to a true 3-4 or 4-3. No excuse for rolling out a basically unaltered 3-3-5 to play an offense that wants throw the ball less than 15 times a game.

My guess is that our defense was so bad, it made earle look much better than he really is, which made it tough to give a fair assessment of the two.
That's with giving a very generous benefit of the doubt
Very good theory.

If this isn't the worst defense in FBS, the worst defense in FBS can't be really trying to stop anyone.

Lyn Rollins was way more excited about La Tech forming public-private partnerships with the business community than the game he was watching. I've never heard that kind of academic tedium in a football game that wasn't a blowout.
Well I know all about the retiring La Tech Presidents tenure. If I am into La Tech academics I am thrilled. I was looking in the crowd to find the students with body paint spelling our Fortune 500 Partnerships. I didn't see any. Odd 🤷🏽♂️. 😂

Without major injuries and/or unexpectedly having late season conference opponent undefeated and ranked give us loss 7, Next season bowl eligibility is a must. Bowl eligibility just mean your program isn’t terrible.

What if I told you, a fan can enjoy a win AND not dwell on expectations?
the impossible just became possible, sir.

What if told you can actually scroll past comments hashing your mellow or you could be in another space to “enjoy” the win. And taking time out to find a gif to express your displeasure with a comment takes away from your “enjoyment” 😂

Game film like this when Earle was with ACU or are you speaking to Littrell’s limited use of Earle in the RedZone?
I agree that Rogers is the best fit, but we shouldn’t oversimplify the decision.
Oversimplify? Okay let’s look at numbers. Rogers before this season had 319 pass attempts against FBS opponents completing 67% passes with a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Stone Earle had well under 200 pass attempts with the vast majority being against FCS, completing a lower percentage and only topping 200 yards in a game twice. It was very clear that Rogers experience makes him better equipped to handle the speed of FBS defenses.

He called a great game offensively. Defense still stinks to high heaven but him sitting Earles butt on the bench took some gutz.
long live Eric Morris!!. .
Good game call but great?…. Wasn’t he the same guy who benched him? Did he not call a totally unnecessary trick play on offense trying to protect a 3 score lead in the 4th quarter. “Great” is flirting with perfection and his leadership/decision was far from that. I think things are definitely looking up for the offense and Morris deserves a ton of support and credit for that. But you need to slow down throwing out the word “great”.

Man it was ridiculous how many times they got the down and distance wrong. What strange combination of play and penalties gets you 1st & 9? 🤣

We don’t act like we are Alabama, we act like we expect the new coach to outperform the fired coach he replaced. We beat Louisiana Tech by 20 points last year.
Hell even that’s too steep for many I guess. As for me, I don’t expect trick plays when the offense has 3 score lead in the 4th and has executed well for most of the game. I guess we are both irrational malcontents. 😂

Don't you think there's gotta be somewhere between worst defense in the FBS and Alabama
Hell, I would just settle for not running trick plays with a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter. 😂. Maybe then the defense doesn’t give everyone a heart attack. But hey they are “new” what do you expect? High School level game management? We aren’t Georgia remember?

Do yall forget we have a NEW HC? I swear.. This isn't going to happen overnight..
So it’s high and unreasonable expectations to have a coaching staff that knows how to protect a 17 point lead? I wouldn’t have as passionate of a criticism of the defense IF they didn’t put their shortcomings front and center by running a stupid trick play at midfield. Protecting the ball with late in games is football 101. Unfortunately some high school coaches would need security for losing a game after making such a bone headed call. The call was maximum risk with minimum reward. As EVIDENT they still needed an onside kick, converted into a TD drive to tie the game. That play was maximum risk and minimum reward if executed correctly. If you don’t like to read valid criticism then log off, have a drink and enjoy the win. 🙄

It was the first win by our new HC...yall act like we are ALABAMA. Be happy we won.. I swear yall stay living with CORA!!!
I didn’t realize Louisiana Tech was a G5 powerhouse. I guess you missed the part where I said I enjoyed the win. Hell drop down to FCS independent right now with no playoff eligibility due to too many scholarships, we can win a lot of games then🙄

Yeah, maybe once Coach Morris watches the film, he'll tell Caponi to stop with the 3 man D for the rest of the year.
Exclusively on 3rd and 8 yards+ MAYBE. And that is only to have guys familiar with it to install it NEXT YEAR and run scout team when we have an opponent who runs it. Conversion of front types can be very ugly even on the pro level with a lot more practice time afforded to you. Long time Dallas Cowboys fans should remember.

Wow, unnecessarily dramatic. I will take it but dang our defense and coaching arrogance in general doesn’t give me a lot of confidence of getting to 5 wins this year.

North Texas should not be this bad.
Hell yeah they should be. They chose this!!!! This could have been LAST YEAR letting a new younger head coach make stupid decisions and learn on the job. 🤷🏽♂️

That’s why you don’t put the ball in harms way unnecessarily. 🤷🏽♂️ This game is probably over without that turnover.

I see the reasoning of starting Stone now, Rodgers is good across the middle of the field, short and medium boundary throws. He's consistently missing the deep ball though. He is definitely a clear improvement over Stone. The defense still sucks but Caponi is adjusting.
I am not in the “fire Morris before the end of the of the season” camp. But the qualifiers you had in this comment are ridiculous. There is an arrogance “re-inventing the wheel” mentality in this coaching staff. How many instances of it do you need to see to be a little pissed off? This university is not paying all these upper level assistants healthy 6 figures to “learn on the job”. They could have done this last year but their actions told us Seth deserved an additional year. 🤷🏽♂️. I think they hold on to this win. But to get to at least 5 wins this season they can’t be making some of these bone headed decisions.

Wow. trick play when totally unnecessary. Arrogance in this coaching staff is a cancer.

So we’re back in the 3-3-5. I just don’t know
They need to sparingly use this alignment on 3rd and over 8 yards. We don’t have a beta year to work out the flaws and find personnel that can run this and be effective against the run.

Oh no looks like La Tech figured out weak run game defense.

La Tech does enhance the game day atmosphere. I don't know exactly why, but they have always felt like natural rivals for us even before we shared CUSA. UTEP not so much in my opinion. When they are good they definitely are a better draw than SMU for road fans.
