  1. Just wait PETA will be knocking on UL Monroe's door soon enough, making an innocent poor old hawk into a waring creature. Oh my, where is the Humanity of it all!
  2. My condolences in advance to the White team, may you rest in peace. GO GREEN!!!!
  3. 2 - 10 if we are lucky and maybe a completely unfeated season.
  4. Rubber Bowl The Rubber Bowl is a stadium in Akron, Ohio. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the University of Akron "Zips" and high school football on Fridays. It is named after the predominance of the tire industry in Akron. The stadium opened in 1940 and has a capacity of 31,000.
  5. I bet a Tortilla could really fly from that double deck.
  6. Well at least we are guaranteed a bowl game next year! "Rubber Bowl"
  7. Well I must be also. I'm a fXXXers, you're a fXXXers, wouldn't you like to be a fXXXers too! Watch UNT Football. Watch UNT Football. You can be a fXXXers, too!
  8. I voted for that when they were changing the Name.
  9. Not sure where they get their info from but I am pretty sure that football has some sponsors, they show only non program specific under "Advertisements & Sponsorship". No-one donates specifically to the Football program? Where did the jumbo-tron come from? Here is another weird thing. Student fees: UNT= $4,315,679 UT..= $1,673,928 Thats more than twice the amount UNT over Texas.
  10. Nobody will ever miss a few chickens, if you don't like it mind your own business the gambling associated with the sport is usually the problem not the actual animals. Lets fire up the list that we can't stand but would never effect most peoples lives either way. Bull fighting, Bull riding, eating veal ( I am guilty here love my veal), Bronco busting, dog racing, animal testing (Better them than me), etc. Aren't people too busy to worry about judging what other people and other cultures do with animals? Its seems Americans are more preoccupied with animals than the children of this great country. Every city and most large towns have children in them suffering from malnutrition and unproductive surroundings. If we could forget about the animals rights and focus on the kids we as a country would be much better off. If it would save one child I would be more than happy to get rid of all house cats in the world, oh hell PETA going to get me now.
  11. I know several casual fans that found Dickey ball rather boring and were more interested in the tailgating and the game-day experience. Look I just think beating SBC teams as not a huge accomplishment when most have been ranked over a hundred. I have talked to several students over the last few years because I was trying to sell the program to anyone who would listen, most of the students said all kinds of sad crap about our team, but what I heard the most was we never play teams I have heard of at home. Whether that is just unenlightened students or what I am not sure, the game-day & tailgating was an easier sell even when we were wining. I think RV has had every bit as much or more to do with attendance lately.
  12. You are right, but to ignore the rest of the other changes in UNT policy, UNT enrollment, and Denton population in favor of just DD is flawed, extremely flawed. Not only who we played, when we played, what the weather was like that day and so on. Remember last year we had pretty great weather for all the home games. Being in an extremely easy conference with an automatic Bowl tie-in. At my job we work with population counts, population growth, income, day-time pop densities, traffic counts, new housing starts and etc. We do this to make projections the best we can for locations of different retail needs. There is a margin of error but after a while you tend to see things as many parts to the whole and develop an instinct of sorts. Is it developed for UNT football, no but it is a similar idea. I am just unwilling to give all or even the majority of the credit to Dickey.
  13. I hope by the time we are even close to trying for such a spot, things will change here and there. I think there are some teams like Baylor if they slip far enough may fall out. But it still is my hope, probably not in my lifetime.
  14. In 2003 Baylor was one of the worst teams in D1A and one of their worst seasons in their history. Cincinnati our one came to fame, most of Cincinnati's fan's told me their team would lose the night before the game because they choked in Bowl games, and their quarterback would force the ball. We picked them off left and right. Does that take a way from this game not really but one solid OOC game really just says fluke. We need to consistently win OOC games against OOC teams that are solid mid-majors when they are winning to have any form of measure.
  15. The UNT Nightmare would be if the TABC went on a rampage at the Tailgating game day events. Talk about hammering attendance.
  16. I whole heartily agree. I was at three of the bowls and had a great time, more than great. I would not go so far as to say they were fake but they are definitely no kind of measuring stick at least not yet. But some think these bowls were some sign of football legend I wish they were but they are not.
  17. The simple problem is MADD is out of control, they don't know where to stop and they manipulate the truth to prove their points. They will soon have the legal blood alcohol percentage to .02 and a 200 pound man could drink a half a beer and be legally drunk. The punishment laws their lobbyist have forced through the Federal and state congresses are so far out of whack it is sad. The punishment so far beyond fitting the crime it now bordering on insane. I heard on KLUV the other morning that alcohol use in high schools over the last 25 years is down like 50% but drug use is up 700%. I think I would rather have my kids drinking, than doing drugs but thats just me. (I was trying to find the article they quoted but struck out so my numbers may be off but that is what I believe they said.) I want to form DAMM, Drunks Against Madd Mothers. Sorry it already exists. DAMM
  18. It is just the food chain, if a team is not constantly looking to improve its standing what are they doing. C-USA is just a step along the way. With the final stop in a conference that gives your team a solid shot at being in the top 25 and maybe a National Championship.
  19. Y'all on the white team better be ready I have a huge can of whoop-ass, actually its more the size of a standard Keg, and I am going to open it all over the white team. GO GREEN!!!!
  20. I'm not sure you can say that simply because you can't differentiate student game attendance vs. non-student game attendance between the two eras. All you have is total attendance vs total enrollment. It very well may be that more students as a percentage of enrollment attend games now than did then and less alums/faculty/Dentonites/Denia residents. For all we know 5 students went to home games during Fry's tenure. You really need to be able to see receipts of tickets to make that call. ← Denton is more than twice the size it was then, the school is nearly twice as big, I am willing to go out on a limb and say that population and total enrollment helps getting butts in the stands. Take game attendance and divide in population available total enrollment to do some growth percentages you will find that DD would nearly have to double his attendance to match Fry. I do these kind growth analysis at work all the time. There are plenty of people on this board who can shed some light on if the students attended or not during Fry's era. And I was originally saying to give DD blanket credit for current attendance is not well founded.
  21. I think you should be careful who you give credit for the better attendance, I believe much of the increase is do to the total school attendance and RV reinstating tailgating plus the promotion of the whole game day experience. Also looking at the numbers and the total attendance as at percentage of UNT enrollment Fry killed DD.
  22. Bottom line DD is the only UNT coach with the opportunity to have a Bowl game directly tied to this conference championship. And anyone who is giving DD a free pass because of the bowl is not looking at the bottom line. If we go by winning seasons in D1a football we have 41. If we go by conference championships we have had 24 realizing that we had 19 years independent. The Bowl games are very poor measuring sticks.
  23. I don't really see what Hayden did at SMU has to do with us? Hayden really got going when he came to UNT. That just proves the point home its time for DD to leave and start over somewhere else. But I don't think DD is even close to half the coach Fry is. I say that because of DD's attitude and expectations he expresses to team and fans. His motivational skills seem lacking and on and on.
  24. No it is going to take much more than just a win against SMU. In fact a couple of years ago I was hoping DD would really mature and bring our team up the ladder where SMU would be a joke. But just that we are discussing this game the way we are proves DD has not come close to my expectations. I think a loss to SMU will be the same as a termination notice for DD, and if it is not we then know for sure that the BOR, RV and the Admin are completely unconcerned about building a strong football program. I mean DD will have to have three winning seasons in a row and a total time of 11 years just to break .500 in wining seasons, and I really doubt that is going to happen. For the last five years I have been waiting for DD to get it together and start winning against some solid OOC teams but that came up a big zilch. I was also hoping for better discipline, but nada. I was hoping that DD would pull his head out and really start actively selling UNT sports, I was way off on that one. I was expecting us to continue to improve but in my option the end of the 2002 season was when UNT was at its best in recent times. Did we really see any OOC wins to help legitimize us or our conference, let alone our Sun Belt championships? IF anything DD got complacent. I don't really know if DD has Greatness in him or not, if he does I doubt we will see it at North Texas. He should move on and get a fresh start and so should we fresh blood is good.
  25. Here is a bit of a reality check for you so called "Positive People". (Evil hides right in front of your eyes) Lets really look at coaching records a little deeper by winning percentages. Coaches with at least 5 years or more at UNT. Coach..................First.....Last......Years....Games....Win....Loss....Tie....Pct. Darrell Dickey.....1998.....2005........8..........94.........39......55......0....0.415 Rod Rust.............1967.....1972........6..........62.........29......32......1....0.476 Corky Nelson......1982......1990.......9.........101.........48......52......1....0.480 Odus Mitchell.......1946......1966......21........216........122.....85......9....0.586 Theron J. Fouts....1920.....1924........5..........39.........23......14......2....0.615 J.W. St. Clair.......1915.....1919........5..........32.........19......11......2....0.625 Hayden Fry..........1973.....1978........6..........66........40.......23......3....0.629 Jack Sisco...........1929.....1941.......13........121........74.......37.....10...0.653 Coaches that left with less than 5 years Jerry Moore........1979......1980........2..........22.........11.......11......0....0.500 John B. Reid.......1925......1928........4..........37.........16.......18......3....0.473 J.W. Pender........1913......1914........2...........7...........3.........4......0....0.429 Matt Simon.........1994......1997........4..........45.........18.......26......1....0.411 Lloyd Russell.......1942......1942.......1............8...........3.........5......0....0.375 Dennis Parker.....1991......1993........3..........33.........11.......21......1....0.348 Bob Tyler...........1981......1981........1...........11..........2.........9......0.....0.182 This list shows DD as the worst coach that ever stayed 5 or more years by winning percentage. OH wait he went to 4 Bowl games out of the worst conference ever, so bad that the first time we were the conference champion we had a losing record. If over our history we just needed a winning record in D1a football guess what we would have been to 41 bowl games. Dickey needs to leave.
