  1. We’ve proven we show up for good matchups.
  2. Guaranteed if RV was here we wouldn’t be in this bowl. He knew we needed to distance ourselves from SBC.
  3. I agree, completely. And that’s the problem. We shouldn’t be associating with them.
  4. No, it’s just that we have standards and expectations above playing a community college. We are getting murdered by Troy in a subpar bowl matchup in an empty stadium. That’ll do wonders for recruiting.
  5. Yup, and we’re getting a thorough asskicking by a Sun Belt squad.
  6. Troy is the worst university in a bottom five state in education. We are lowering our standards by even acknowledging them. Let me know when DeVry has a program.
  7. Absolutely. We should’ve played anywhere else.
  8. There was no point to us playing these scrubs. Nothing but negative for recruiting.
  9. More or less symbolic of the screwed up priorities right now.

  11. As I’ve said multiple times, this reeks of classism. Drawing from local small towns is what the big boy SEC schools do. I can count on one hand successful big market college teams. Pretty obvious to anyone with an inkling of business sense that repeating what isn’t working over and over is bad business.
  12. That’s all I’m saying, and why I’d like to see us reach out to small towns surrounding Denton instead.
  13. I’m not questioning the fanbase of the Cowboys which is unquestionably the best in the NFL. I’m questioning the fanbase of DFW.
  14. This is nothing but sheer delusion. IMO, people’s insistence that we should continue beating our head against the wall in DFW rather than grab what’s ripe for picking us a bit of classism. We are an hour away from Dallas. People in the suburbs are all transplants who cheer for UT/A&M/LSU. They’re all T-Shirts. Dallas can barely support an NFL team right now what makes you think they can support another college team?
  15. I won’t be there so I can’t cast stones but I’m guessing 15K
  16. It’s even better for UNT than it is for SMU!
  17. This is all dumb. We’ve already failed DFW. We are ten years too late, TCU grabbed that market. There is entirely too much competition there. DFW isn’t even “North Texas” and is nothing but a bunch of T-shirt fans, even for the NFL. Tickets to the Cowboys game were like $5 two weeks ago, and you couldn’t give away Rangers tickets. We don’t win enough and aren’t high level enough for the T-shirts to give a shit. I’ll beat this drum again. GO AFTER NORTH TEXAS. Get Gainesville to the games. Sanger. Pilot Point. ETC. It’s what Fry did. Screw DFW, be “North Texas’ team.” It markets itself. Your closest FBS team. We’d sell out Apogee weekly if we had any presence in these cities. So tired of hearing about Fri$co and all that other crap. Waste of time and money. Too far for the guys to the north of us to go to OU every weekend so come to Denton for D1 football.
  18. This is GREAT NEWS to wake up to! PonyFans must be on suicide watch!
  19. Lol. I never stopped supporting our football team in lean years. Basketball was a special set of circumstances, and clearly most of our fanbase feels the same considering we have a solid 40 people at most games.
  20. All I’m saying is it’s going to take more than overtime Ws against D3 schools for me to care.
  21. Benford is a completely different disaster. Want to know why I bailed? My father flew in from NY to come see us get out-hustled by UTA in our supposed Cinderella year. Tony Mitchell was horrible. I hyped it up considerably...and we left early. That season was painful. It wasn’t even about that we tanked. It was that prior to that point, basketball was UNT’s calling card with sports and IT FINALLY LOOKED like we were going to break through with a national spotlight. It was the birth of what SMU is now. Jones was loyal and only left because his alma called, so we went out, spent REAL money for a REAL big time coach...even Fraschilla was in the mix. We were going to explode. And then it all imploded. Our big draft pick stopped giving a shit. Meanwhile, football continued to grow in popularity so students shifted attention that way. Our presentation was boring, our students dwindling, and the Super Pit being a dark, depressing outdated albatross (seriously) to watch absolutely embarrassing on-court action for a team that was supposed to be a breakthrough. And despite utter despair and it being PAINFULLY obvious we were destroying our program we KEPT BENFORD AROUND. To make things worse, Benford could recruit. I kept thinking “maybe this will be the year!” Meanwhile SMU did what we should’ve done. It was a nut-kick of immense proportion that nearly ran me off from UNT entirely. Our football team was great so I focused it all there. And then, to make it worse, football got nuked. Had we not hired Littrell, can’t say I’d still be an active fan. THAT is why it will take a lot for me to give a shit, and that is why Benford singlehandedly torpedoed UNT athletics. Call me a fake fan, whatever. I was one of the students who used to go to Hot Springs and lived on the front row. So take your BS somewhere else.
