He was shot when he put his hands down to his waist.

Obviously, the officer made a serious error in judgment.  A fatal error.  He may well deserve to be dismissed for this.  I'm sure it will eat at his conscience the rest of his life.  But it's obviously not murder.

It’s clearly murder. Not first degree, but murder. Glad to see the punishment for murdering an innocent man is having a guilty conscience.

If you randomly had a SWAT team at your door you wouldn’t be startled and confused, maybe put your hands up immediately?

We live in a dystopian police state and bootlickers like you are why.

The guy who called in the prank call has been apprehended.

The moment police don't take a call like this serious is when innocent people and/or police officers get killed. You have to obey police officers' commands otherwise things like this can happen.

He did obey police though? It was a seven second span. He put his hands up.

    The bootlickers are out.

I haven't seen the exact details of what the police said and what the individual did that led to the shooting itself. It's obviously a terrible situation and that goes without saying. I just think that "murder" is a really irresponsible term to use in these situations. That officer didn't wake up that day wanting to kill someone. Also, I don't know how one can disregard the different mindsets officers would need to be in for a hostage situation vs.say... not using a turn signal. The information they are given about a situation matters. Could there still have been a mistake made? Sure.

The guy opened the door and put his hands up. He opened the door and was shot seven seconds later.

It seems really odd to completely disregard the prank call as a factor because that dictates the mind set of the officers going into the situation.

Of course the family is upset. They lost a loved one. Hopefully the police  catch the individual that placed the fake call.

So the cop that shot first, asked questions later, is not to blame?

So, you think Rick was the answer and knew how to run things 'right?'  I guess this explains a lot.

No, I never said that, but I guess when your argument is about as solid as an iceberg in the Arctic Circle in 2017, you get certain liberties.

So much fear.  We played a good team, and had a terrible 3rd quarter, ended up losing.  I do not judge my self worth on the outcome of the game.  We will lose some games when we play good competition.

Sitting in the shadows and waiting to shout I told you so every time we don't win?  #olddenton hahahahahahahaha

No matter how much you polish a turd, the Mean Green got waxed in the NO Bowl like we did in the SBC days, losing to Troy like we did in the Sun Belt days in front of a few fans, like the Sun Belt days. #olddenton

How would possibly be beating FSU in the Independence Bowl be old Denton? How would be losing to FSU in the Independence Bowl be old Denton? This makes no sense.

As I’ve said, at least Rick would’ve known to turn down the NO Bowl, because at least he knew the importance of keeping distance from the SBC schools.

#olddenton wants to play FSU because it is the safe thing to do.  Comparing who it would be better to lose to as a way of deciding who to play?  That way of thinking is exactly how things were ran around here for 15 years.  Let's please don't go back to that way of thinking.

Every time there is a stumble, #olddenton comes out of the shadows and starts shouting, I Told You So!!

Stop being scared of the past.

And getting our ass kicked by Troy in the NOLA Bowl is #newdenton? Hahahahahahahaha.

Yep. And that’s the point when you are trying to actually build something, which is what the AD should be trying to do.

The whole “we are trying to win10 games to say we won 10 games” was 1) stupid and 2) something literally no one cared about.

It was stupid because Troy was CLEARLY the better team and there was no chance to win the game. No one cared because it was Troy.

Just another mark in the long list of opportunities lost at UNT. I mean, it’s literally what we do.

On a side note, I see a poster bullied Ben by posting personal information publicly. It appears he wasn’t disciplined for it. It sad this place has devolved into a shaming mechanism for anyone that dares question UNT athletics. It’s a shame it’s allowed. It’s a shame it’s participated in by those who should certainly know better. But such is the state of this forum these days. Thank God There is alternate place to post.

    Yes.

Because UNT would have gotten two extra weeks of practice time.

Because UNT wouldn’t have gotten their teeth kicked in by an opponent from the Sun Belt, a conference this program spent years ineptly trying to escape from.

Because UNT fans (like me) would have actually attended the bowl game. I didn’t even watch the Troy game on TV.

Because UNT grads who don’t pay attention to UNT would have had their head turned by a game against a team that they perceived mattered. For almost a full month. Local media would have paid attention to UNT playing FSU. They didn’t for Troy. At all. In the 13 days between the conference championship game and bowl game.

You don’t understand our culture, so I get your questions. The sad thing is many fans here think the same way you do, which is why this is the dumbest fanbase in college football. By a long shot.

You’re spot on with this. I didn’t watch the Troy game either.

AAC bowl matchups are below. So only 1 game vs Sunbelt. This year CUSA got that bid due to some last minute trading (Miami Beach Bowl is now Frisco bowl).

    American Athletic Bowl Ties

    2017 Season
BBVA Compass Bowl, Birmingham, Ala. – vs. SEC
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Fla. – vs. Conference USA
Miami Beach Bowl, Miami, Fla. – vs. Sun Belt
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, Annapolis, Md. – vs. ACC
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, Hawaii – vs. Mountain West
Boca Raton Bowl, Boca Raton, Fla. – vs. Conference USA

So Houston is going to face non sunbelt teams for the most part because that's the bowls the AAC negotiated. And calling Troy a middling program struggling to stay above water is a position of ignorance. Troy has better history and tradition than have of CUSA. They have better facilities as well. Here's the reality of modern day college football. You have the Power 5, you have the AAC and then 4 conferences that there isn't a hairs difference between. I don't like it, but CUSA is better than the MAC or Sunbelt in name only. And the value of the name is because of institutions that all left CUSA (Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, Houston, etc.). Year and year out, if we played the sunbelt in every sport matching up 1 seed vs 1 seed, it would be a wash.

The same applies to the MWC. It's no better either but enjoys the best "brand" of the four

So you’re okay with us being in the Sun Belt?

Gotta stop dogging the start up programs like Troy and FAU.  Makes us look football stupid.

    Rick

Yeah, mingling amongst programs like Troy who can barely keep their head above water makes us look football stupid.

When’s the last time UH has played a SBC school in a bowl?

I was able to make my plans a week out, so unless you already have plans that weekend, that's not an excuse.  To say that  CUSA has a bad commissioner is an understatement.  From bad TV deals to having 4 of your 9 bowl teams play on the first day is a joke.  So far, Judy MacLeod is nothing more  than Karl Benson reincarnate.

I did have plans. It’s the weekend before Christmas. It’s a busy weekend.

Plus for others it was graduation, etc. It’s a bad weekend for a lot of people.

I just hope HoD and Indy enjoy their small ticket sales.

  13. I would’ve been able to make the HoD, Indy, etc but couldn’t make NOLA. It’s an awful weekend and too early to make advance plans. A lot of our fans clearly felt the same way.

It’s a bottom five bowl no matter how you slice it, and we had no business playing in it, especially against desperate programs like Troy with a dangerous team.

CUSA has a really bad commissioner. AAC’s “P6” thing is dumb but they have a commissioner who is making that perception reality. Meanwhile, our passive commissioner is letting our division champs play MAC and CUSA scrubs.

    Perception is reality.

We never had an offer from the ibowl. I am tied of everything bringing up their name but then leaving out the very important fact that they never invited us.

In fact when we had bowl offers in our hands we asked the ibowl to extend and they say well maybe they might in the future.

If they wanted us they could have extended then, but they didn't. So that's their decision. We could have ended up looking like idiots if we had waited for that offer and it never came.

And how exactly do you know this?

9 wins and undefeated at home got us the same thing 5-7 got us 15 years ago. Except this time, we’re Cincinnati getting railed by a Sun Belt team. Whatever the reason? Whoever to blame - I’ve been consistent - going to this game was a multi level failure.

    This is what everyone’s overlooking.
