  1. I'll happily eat a heaping pile of crow if we go 8-5 next year with 6 conference wins. I just don't see it happening.
  2. Too bad nobody else thinks so. I mean don't get me wrong I'm sure they're good evaluators of talent. But offering kids with no other FBS offers is McCarney level recruiting and we all know where that got us. It's getting a bit tiring to be honest
  3. Yeah even at 6-6 I'll be mildly disappointed. The fact that anyone would even be happy with less with that next season is complacent Like I said earlier. This contract is gonna look really stupid on Wren and crew if we do any less than 6-6
  4. 936 is Southeast Texas. Just north of Houston, including the Woodlands. Could it be the tackle from there? Speculation, no info http://247sports.com/player/jake-syptak-46039075
  5. I think it's smart to be cautiously optimistic at this point. A lot of people are excited for Littrell and staff but @BillySee58 is right in his criticism of recruiting so far. Littrell has found a few interesting guys with little to no offers like Tyler Wilson and Evan Johnson. We just have to hope they are seeing things that no other staff is seeing(highly unlikely) If we don't hit 6-6 or better next year this huge bump in pay is gonna look stupid
  6. Let's just hope it continues to be a worthwhile investment
  7. Yeah wasn't he a 2 for 2 when he signed here? Eligibility don't work like that pal
  8. I just saw that. Maybe the coaches didn't want to waste their time with the headache of his academic eligibility? Looks like he might be going FCS/DII
  9. Impressive list! A lot of these guys have some really solid offers. Would be huge to get even a few of em
  10. I do believe Shanbour has two years. O'hara has one left, Shanbour and Isadore have two, Fine has three, and Pearson has five. I think it's also worth noting that Wyoming's current QB might be the number 1 overall pick next year so they might be on to something when it comes to QB's. Only offer out of high school was Wyoming http://247sports.com/Player/Josh-Allen-78109?Institution=23669
  11. Pecos must be growing fast if it's 4A now. My parents still live in Midland so whenever I go home I'm still amazed at how much all of it is growing and changing
  12. I think UTSA and SMU are going to beat us. How people think we're gonna beat either is beyond me. Both beat us last year AND way out recruited us. Lamar is the only guaranteed win on that schedule for the first 6 games. Maybe 2-4 with wins against Southern Miss and Lamar
  13. I'd like to point out that Greenwood is indeed it's own municipality. More like a suburb of Midland. Glad we are reaching out to West Texas kids
  14. I think the point myself and Mr. Gooding are trying to get across is that while nobody may have used the word "savior" specifically, it has become more often than not that the general consensus is that Fine is the best we have, despite his flaws. While many argue the fact that he was a true freshman last year that led to many of his mistakes, I think coming into a season with a healthy skepticism of his ability to perform above what he did last year is important. I think there's a very real possibility that he may not improve to the level as needed to become a perennial 7,8,9 win team as we should all expect. My main concern is, when does the coaching staff get tired of the Sacks/INT's/Sub 60% completion and attempt another QB? They were so quick to yank Morris after the first game. Is that going to be the case with Fine? I mean we have a real chance at starting out 1-5(UAB being the main question mark). What happens then? What if we don't see this massive second year jump in efficiency? So far I haven't seen or heard anything to prove otherwise
  15. Also find it curious that Minor is now starting over Wheeler. Wonder if it's a similar situation there. I've always been a fan of Minor, but Wheeler was pretty solid last season
  16. Yeah as much as I like Harrell his playcalling was all over the place last year. Hoping his situational awareness improves for this year
  17. There's probably a 50% chance of one of the three happening with Fine: 1) Swing pass to RB that he motions out pre snap(If defense is in zone) 2) QB Draw on same play(if defense is in man) 3) Sack/Batted Ball Seems pretty predictable to me. Maybe it's Harrell not putting him in the best situations as a playcaller. Like I said I will be curious as to what they do when defenses take away the binky of the swing pass/QB draw. Will he be able to do anything else consistently well? We'll see
  18. Would not be surprised to see either Mose at C and Barr at G or vice versa. I believe Barr played some guard last year when Rice had to play center
  19. Well he got outperformed(badly I might add) by a true freshman and a "guy who tucks and runs too early" in the spring game. BUT ITS A SPRING GAME. Ok great. The point is after a full season of work plus a spring, he still got outplayed by two other "lesser'' players. Are you gonna say BUT LAMAR if Fine goes 8/20 for 120 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT? Because that's what he did as of recently
  20. My argument is that Mason Fine is predictable and has shown no visible signs of improving. I have no idea what Shanbour, Isadore, or Pearson bring. I'm just saying that Fine's season last year should look abysmal compared to whoever the QB is this year. Would I like to see Shanbour in extended game time? Absolutely. Would also love to see Isadore in a live game. Nobody knows what they have because the staff is sticking with Fine. When Fine got hurt, Morris came in immediately and looked better. Who's to say one of the other guys can't do the same
  21. But Ben, this doesn't follow the hivemind groupthink of Mason Fine being our savior Tread lightly. They're onto us
  22. I'm just praying that Fine isn't Littrell's McNulty. You can try as hard as you want but if it ain't there it ain't there. The fact is while Wilson is our workhorse, he's also made of glass, and I'd be willing to bet teams are going to key on that little swing pass next year because it was the only play we ran with any sort of consistency last year. My question is, when you take away that safety net, will Fine be able to do anything else consistently well? So far I haven't seen it. Even with improved receivers
  23. Not to mention Alec Morris threw 9 of those 15 TD's in less games. Let's face it, you're a Shanbour apologist, and having expectations of an average air raid QB season are completely and utterly ridiculous. You know, because North Texas. Should I also mention the fact that Jeffery Wilson hasn't played a full season in his entire career and *whispers* we may need a competent QB to win us a few football games. But what do I know, I don't breakdown gifs and go on podcasts doing football analysis
  24. 20 TD's would be remarkable if we weren't running an offensive system that regularly churns out 20+ TD passers every single year. I'm not saying Shanbour is better, I'm saying we need to raise our standards of QB play. There's a reason we were his only FBS offer folks. I stand by my statement. Prove me wrong.
