I thought I saw it was just long wood for three years. I stand corrected. Just another dude floating around never happy. These kids are going to struggle bouncing around out there in real life. 10 jobs 15 wife’s 20 countries…. I mean I guess whatever. That’s normal… just move move move move because it’s all about you all the time.
You do realize that most companies are only loyal to making money, right?

Looks like we offered back in 2020 also. Wonder what happened then.

Yeah, sadly, I fear that the answer is pretty simple: we have the worst NIL in the conference. Until that changes, we'll be sending Hodge into a gunfight with a knife. The further we get into the NIL era, the harder it's going to be to keep up the momentum from past success. At this point we're basically just hoping and praying that Hodge is a WAY better coach/recruiter/evaluater than his AAC counterparts. Even if he is really good at those things, we can't just expect him to pull off miracles every single season.
The good ole "it's hard to recruit at North Texas". Football has been going through this for many, many years.
Not saying I disagree with you, just always comes back to that.

Starting to worry that Coach Hodge may be taking another job or something with all the defections.
Honestly, this didnt even cross my mind after one year, but........

Pretty sure about 90% of folks around here would rather see these two kick rocks than put on Green and represent us ever again, sadly.
Maybe Drez, but I am still a TP fan. I am on the side of taking a quarter of a million dollars as a college student.

You just get the best player available and build with a one-year plan. You can’t count on any of these kids to play for you beyond one season.
I would be hard-pressed to find any school in the country that has been hit harder by transfer portal defections in football and men’s basketball this school year than North Texas.I would check out Tech under Mac. I think pretty much their whole starting 5 entered the portal.

A true center is the top of my wishlist too. 6-11 or 7ft, just so we can see for once what someone with that size can do on this team.
Maybe with Dusty leaving Goldin might wanna try something new....

You know it's the off season when a portal transfer thread dissolves into a NIL discussion.

What surprised about his firing is that their wasn't much of an explanation that I saw in the DMN. When Coach Jake was terminated 2 years ago by SMU I remember more than a few articles.
Maybe "Dallas'" team isn't really Dallas' team.

Also, might be good to have a thread for any of our guys that might be rumored on leaving. Unless this is that too.

We could run the most perfect offense in the world and score 40ppg... we'd still get 45+ hung on us every week with this defense. Hodge's defense is not in the same neighborhood as Morris/Caponi.
There is no reason to use the C word in the basketball forum. It's like cursing.

Kid was a class act, represented us well, daggered UAB to win the NIT, never said a bad word about us and left because of this F’ed up NIL that paid him a quarter of a million which would be hard to turn down.
How about we treat him with the same class? Kid doesn’t deserve this. I was critical of him when he left, but he’s a class young man. Time to let it go.
I have mixed feelings on it, tbh. On one hand, I get the money, it's very hard to turn down, but on the other hand, I see why it sucks to see him go.
As far as karma, I do feel bad for him this season and honestly was hoping for a NT-KSU championship.

Did Drez say as much ?
He didn't outright say it, but made a comment on X about how the grass is not always greener, or something to that regard.

It is bizarre. I swear the tournament used to have a rule that unless there were a ridiculous amount of teams from one conference (say the Big 10 gets in nine), that they did everything possible to have schools within the same league avoid each other until the Regional Final/Elite 8.
I would say it's a little bit of "who cares" for our conference.

People who crap over the NIT are pretty lame. It's TOUGH to make the NCAAs. Even counting the NIT field, a much greater percentage of teams play in the postseason in basically every major North American sport. The NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB all do. Obviously college football now has 40 something bowl games.
I don't think people realize how almost impossible it is to get in the Big Dance. All but....8 or 9 leagues get in only a single team. And for conference that get in multiple bids, sometimes it's only two or three (even the vaunted Big East only got 3 this year!). Really only the top few leagues consistently get five or more.
It really is an entitled mindset. I don't think I will ever understand.

NT wouldn't have a chance to play KSU until the championship. What a storyline that would be! TP vs JE!!
I know a lot of work to do, but one can dream.

Yes , we have a higher NET rating.
Imagine that. A tournament that actually takes NET into consideration. NCAA snubbed other high NET ranked teams, so it isn't the end all be all.

It really does feel like Grant built something here that is a winning culture. I think we got picked because of our name. Which is just weird still to me. I love it though!

No, I was trying to say his comparison of loyalty to hopping jobs. A company would drop any one as an employee without the bat of an eye. There is no loyalty on the business side.
