  1. Actually, it was WR Bill Boy Bryant that married Dodds' daughter, Deidre. They split up many moons ago. Todd Dodge married Eddie Neptune's daughter. Eddie Neptune coached Austin Westlake back in the 1980s. BTW, congrats on the hire. I knew Todd from UT football back in the mid 80s. Great guy with a very good football mind though not the greatest QB mind you. I hope that you guys have patience with him and if you do, your program will reap dividends. Let's just say that I will not want a rematch with the Mean Green when Todd Dodge has his program finally in place.
  2. Yes, I graduated from UT. . I'm a proud 3rd Generation Orangeblood. I think that our team has the potential to be very good. We'll find out later this week where we stand on the national scence. As far as the initial post is concerned, Mack did not try to run up the score(and if you ever read my posts on LHFZ,I am hardly known as a Mack Brown apologist). As stated before, the fake punt happened right after UNT scored on a very nice drive to start out the Second Half. At that juncture of the game, running a fake punt is NOT running up the score. It was a case of trying to put an opponent away for good especially given the suffocating heat everyone had to endure last Saturday. Why prolong the game any longer than necessary??? We weren't trying to throw deep passes in the endzone at the end of the game and I'm sorry some of you feel like we were trying to embarrass your team. Good Luck to the Mean Green this coming season!!! I think that y'all will be a factor in the Sun Belt again this year. Also, good luck against the Ponies...I hope you kick their little blue blooded banny butts all over Fouts Field. Hook 'Em Horns and Go Mean Green!!!
  3. I was in the University Co-Op off "The Drag" this past week and the place was a complete madhouse. Plenty of folks I knew never attended my school. Those people can be a blessing and a curse at the same time. It's always nice to have new fans but they need to understand that they're supposed to be fans of the Longhorns, not the Aggies.
  4. My prediction: Texas 41 UNT 13 This game for us will be about developing talent and getting ready for the Buckeyes the next week. I think that the Mean Green will make a better showing than everyone predicts.
  5. Our defense should be strong but we have to replace leaders such as Michael Huff and Aaron Harris. That will not be easy. That 43 point spread is ridiculous considering our QB situation. We may beat you by double digits but it won't be 43 points. A very good idea considering that before Vince Young, Greg Davis' offenses struggled against blitzing teams.
  6. The way I see it is that if they're going to call it the "Texas Bowl", then folks in Houston should give every Div 1 Team in this state an opportunity to play in this game. If they're going to be making exceptions outside the Big XII-CUSA tie-ins for this game then they really need to include all Texas teams...no excuses. UNT would bring in a much larger fanbase than any of old SWC privates schools to that game if given the opportunity. Playing in this bowl game against a BCS conference would reap dividends for UNT whether you won it or not. IMHO, your athletic dept needs to be publically complaining about this snub...and they need to do it now!!!
  7. I was at the '88 game and there were about 12000-14000 North Texas fans there that night. That was due to the old SWC "10% rule" saying that you had to allocate at least 10% of your stadium's tickets to the opposing team. It was a rule that only benefitted about half of the teams in the SWC and absolutely screwed UT. The amount of UNT fans that night matched Arkansas' fan base and believe me, Mean Green fans did their best to emulate Hog fans. I don't think that I endeared that much trash talking from an opposing group of fans outside of Razorback and Sooner fans in my life. Thank goodness all that stuff is in the past now. You think a little surcharge like that is going to keep UT fans from buying tickets to the game through your ticket office. Think again especially with the crap that Cougar High tried to pull back in 2001. You better get your tickets when you can because some UT fans will be checking out their availability at your website. Count on it That's not a bad idea. I wouldn't mind going to some Mean Green games. I went to the '80 game against SMU in Texas Stadium and enjoyed it somewhat. Me going to that one North Texas game is sadly probablly one more than a lot of UNT alums have done.
  8. We're #2 at this point because ABC wants that 1 vs 2 matchup when we play Ohio State the next week. Makes for good TV ratings. If either McCoy or Snead comes though at QB, it could be another National Title run at UT because we do have very good returning talent comnig back.
  9. Wanna bet that UTEP will change that policy in 2008 when the Longhorns come rollng into town???? UTEP's policy should always be constant reminder of the dangers of tailgating on campus. You should avoid it at all costs if you can because University officials can always change the rules and conditions of tailgating at a moment's notice. For those making the Austin trip next month, you'll notice that about 95% of UT Tailgates are off campus. We do this for a reason .
  10. Naturally I was too young to remember it. However, a priest I knew from my UT days was working over at the Catholic Center across the street during that day. He was one of many who risked their own lives trying to save others during that whole tragic affair. For many years UT ran away from this day, now the University is now starting to acknowledge it. This day should be one where we remember and honor the victims whose lives were cut tragically short BTW, I have been to the floor just below the observation deck in the Tower. It's really a great commanding view of the whole UT campus.
  11. I agree..the popups over there are annoying which is one of the reasons why I almost never post there anymore. It's a good thing over here in that Harry hasn't sold out to the UNT establishment yet. I hope that he keeps it that way.
  12. I don't think that we'll hammer North Texas this time around as we will be without the InVinceable One. We'll also be breaking in a new QB for the game and who knows what will happen. I'm sure that the game will be on TV. Hopefully, it will not be Pay Per View like it was the last two times. I look forward to the game this coming Fall.
  13. Here's an even better UT link: www.burntorangefanzone.com It's a smaller but very active board...contains many members of the old LonghornFanzone which used to be the old link for Mean Green fans. The problem with Orangebloods is that there is not a lot of traffic at it. The problem with Hornfans is that there is way too much traffic and it's easy to get lost at a website like that.
  14. Who knows what's next for Ricky. Personally, I don't have an issue with him quitting football. The only mistake he made in this whole affair is not informing his teammates that he was going to give up football. Ricky's a Rastafarian and smoking marijuana is part of his religion. He's not smoking the stuff just to be a stoner.
  15. Well, we're mooving onto the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive year. As far as Deginald Erskin is concerned, he suffered a high ankle sprain in the middle of the season and is just now coming back from it. He was a starter until our game with Arizona. We then went with the bigger forward, Brad Buckman to complement the Big XII's leading rebounder, James Thomas. Deg scored 11 points off the bench yesterday in our win over Purdue and now appears to be fully healed from his injury. He's currently our 3rd Forward option off the bench behind Boddicker and Klotz. It's been a real tough season for Erskin. His mother died about the time he had his injury and she had always attended UT games to watch him play. It's good to hear that he still has some fans over here...I know it's hard watching our of your better players from a couple of season ago play for a different team.
