  1. True greatness, a gamer - The Kansas Comet ! Guys like Sayers, Ali, Mantle, Wilt.... never lose their shine !
  2. Peanuts104: I respect your criticism of my “opinion”. My thoughts are just the take’em or leave’em type from a long time NT supporter who thought Odus Mitchell was a pretty cool guy to bs with on the practice field. But that’s just my opinion too. I never feel too bad about opinions. Go Mean Green - See you at Apogee !
  3. If we’d only had a little more time on the clock, we had ‘em right where we wanted ‘em - they were rubbery, ready to fall ! Yo beertender, one more round !
  4. Coach Dan McCarney was BURNED OUT and just plain quit . We all watched as the on-field game performance and locker room management deteriorated in an ugly way. Many felt that RV was ignoring us fans and the ongoing flame out. So the question: Is Littrell burned out on UNT ? Does Wren care ? I only present this because Saturday’s SMU/UNT game had no resemblance to Littrell’s positive beginning in Denton and on top of last year’s disappointing season. It depresses me to think the AD may have lost his commitment as well.
  5. I grew up in Dallas during the SWC hay day and old Ownby Stadium. Dallas didn’t support SMU then, and the Pony student support was as bad then as now. The snooty guys at SMU pretty much ignored NT back then, these days they still look down their noses but they can no longer ignore UNT whose star is actually on the rise without having to use fake marketing imagery .
  6. Good read for new fans and old timers . Historical detail put the series in perspective. The SMU “almost back” syndrome analysis hits a sore spot for the Ponies . And of course, UNT’s year to year inconsistency rears it’s head. Very good article.
  7. Say what you want about how bad CUSA is and how things suck, BUT if UNT ever wants respect anywhere it needs to WIN CONSISTENTLY. Having two good seasons under a new head coach , Littrell , and then flopping back to a 4 and 8 season just repeats an age old UNT dilemma. If we don’t win it doesn’t matter what conference we’re in. (Boy what an old repeated NT rant, see you at Appogee)
  8. Yes !! Mean Green and the Flying Worm vs. the SMU Broncos . Life is good.
  9. Kudos to you for your unselfish sentiment. Hope we’re all back in Appogee soon with covid19 in the rear view mirror ! GMG
  10. I believe the Dodge family would politely say thanks, but no thanks to another UNT adventure.
  11. QB experience on the D1 field will be a big factor, Buechele and the little ponies have that right now.
  12. Amen to that brother ! For the first time in months when I said “...what the hell is going wrong in this world ?!?” I was talking about a blown snap from center or a lousy pick. Go Mean Green !!!!
  13. I know, sounds like a dumb question but, Is there still a deadline for football season ticket purchases ? Has Wren made any official statement about cancellations ?
  14. Yeah, but in my dream Mason Fine threw a sixty-five yard Hail Mary with no time left on the clock to give the Dallas Cowboys a Super Bowl win over the 49ers. The Mean Green beat Alabama for the national championship. I had a date every night of the week with a different Dallas Cowboy cheerleader ! Then the jailer woke us up and emptied out the drunk tank. (Oh by the way, I was in the 82nd Airborne so I think we may suffer from the same dream disorder) ✈️
  15. How do you define a college D-1 Hall of Fame criteria ? It really can’t be like the pros HOF criteria since a college coach or student athlete is only at a particular school for a fairly short run. As opposed to pro “career” HOF criteria. So maybe it’s justified to include a person in the UNT HOF given one really good year since they probably won’t be around more than about 4 years. Having said that I think Fry, Blakeley and Johnny Jones go in. But at this point does Grant McCasland measure up to those standards ! My opinion meter says he should have at least one more hot year like this year before he gets the nod. (Unless, that is, UNT goes far into the NCAA big dance)
  16. An SMU alum called after reading this board with its hard luck stories. The Pony grads are taking up a collection to buy the po ntsu unemployed a Snicker bar and a cup of lemonade at the next game given the sad state of affairs. Gotta luv $$$MU.
  17. Kudos Little Vito from La Familia ! I’ve enjoyed the sports reports, pre-season area football publications and the candor with some of the sports fans. Good job.
  18. Granted, Dickey did give North Texas an exciting run and did so with poor facilities and poor funding. That four year run was great. HOWEVER, Dickey obviously then stopped recruiting and the program sank. THE UNPROFESSIONAL manner in which Dickey departed was an ugly “fuc# you” felt by most of us fans. Once fired he never should have been allowed to coach the remaining season. Rick Villarreal totally mishandled Dickey’s departure, necessary as it was.
  19. The great ISEED KHOURY : 1973 - 77. Varsity soccer and lettered in football under Hayden Fry setting longest field goal record.
  20. And I remember: Refs had to call “Technicals” against NTSU because the home crowd noise was so painfully overwhelming. In fact I believe audio testing was done at a game and the crowd decibel level was considered hazardous to the human ear drum. It was F-ing greatness ! Opposing coaches and players would actually shoot us the finger. North Texas students were rabid.
