  1. SSP's post in WBAP's Steve Lamb Saying He's Hearing its NT vs Navy In Armed Forces Bowl was marked as the answer
Yep.  I am 100% rooting for us having a bowl here close to home and think it would make the most sense for attendance  purposes.   I think that our 2013 showing with 38K is going to make a huge difference in where we end up.
Point-  I  agree with your comments and this young team that has more or less battled with consistency the entire season has however been consistent on one thing -  HYPE games with large green crowds and a lot of enthusiasm going in...  We have consistently played very well.   I don't want to play navy but if we were to play a team as talented as Navy (and let's be honest...  MOST of the teams that  we have been projected to play are projected to KILL us)  playing in the DFW area would (could) be a saving grace.
Most of the people who showed up for that 2013 bowl game did not follow us the entire season.   Outside of a couple thousand alumni who have remained loyal fans to our athletic department, (Most of whom are frequent commentators on here)  people buy bowl tickets because they want to go to a bowl.   Having a local team playing in a local bowl  commonly generates great attendance.... Even with a pesky 5-7 team. I think we are going to generate a surprising crowd if we play here in Texas.
  2. SSP's post in DRC Monday column: Best sign in win over Rice was UNT's grit was marked as the answer
    Agreed, Harry.
The biggest contributors to the fate of this team are going to be:
    - keeping key players free from injury
    - consistent grind in practices
    - momentum and team confidence is THE MOST VITAL and where I agree with Vito. ?
*McCarney didn't believe in his guys and gave up on them.  The team knew it. They were hungry to be coached and not  just yelled at about how they screwed up all of the time.
-@ChristopherRyanWilkes- 2013 was STACKED with a  very special group of outspoken seniors that knew how to lead.  That...  Brings me to my next point.  We have a very immature and young team.  Leadership within our upperclassman will be undisputably one of the most important aspects of how this team progresses further (as it was in 2013). We have some playmakers and whether or not those Seniors step up and lead/ motivate will be do or die for the rest of this year.   We didn't have this for the last two years because Mccarney and his staff killed that aspect ( I mean... come on. Carlos Harris was considered a team leader).  Thank God for our coaching staff.  They have the trust from our players.  One of the most promising, honest and encouraging things that I've heard Littrell say is,
“We talk about it all the time,” Littrell said. “Don’t blink. Great things are coming. Things are not always going to go your way. Keep grinding and eventually that adversity will flip and you will get momentum.”
This is one of the basic principles that athletes are taught from a very young age and is often neglected by coaches as the playing field gets more competitive.  THAT is very promising to hear for the future of this program.
UNT showed that kind of intestinal fortitude during the 2013 season, when the Mean Green won another thrilling game against Rice.
     Yep. Intestinal fortitude, indeed.

    The GREAT news is this:
We are a wild card right now.  I don't think its safe for anyone to assume or suggest what this team is going to do or what they are capable of the rest of this year.   We have some serious momentum and hope going into next week.  Our players feel it.  Some of those red shirt juniors and seniors saw this in 2013 and were reminded of how that felt last Saturday. They won't give that up easily.  Saturday will be very telling.
On 2013,  I am reminded of us being a wildcard then as well.  The majority of our Fanbase did not believe in that team AT ALL. Every week they would show up and drag us through a variety of emotions during 1-three hour game.  Just when you thought a game was a loss, they'd outwork and out ST/ defense the other team to pull out a win. Only leadership and belief in a program can do that. That's what I saw last Saturday.  It was the exact same feeling but with a coaching staff that has nothing to lose and everything to gain at this point. I have hope and that was a hell of a lot more than I could say after the first quarter on Saturday.  I literally thought to myself... "Well, this is how it ends for our Senior.  How sad. At least he had that 2013 season but HOW SAD."

THIS SATURDAY IS HUGE. Double up on your meds, fans.
  3. SSP's post in Saturday scrimmage was marked as the answer
They sure didn't give anything away as far as who the QB is..... I will say that much.
From what I understand- Greer is the front runner. At least that's how it's been perceived to me through the players I've talked to. But I think everybody got snaps today. It was just a mock scrimmage so it was kind of boring. You can definitely see a couple of key players that look like they're battling with some injuries. The music was really loud ( like 140 decibels kind of loud) because they were getting ready to play in front of 90,000 people and not be able to hear shit...
  4. SSP's post in Sed Ellis Tweet was marked as the answer
No.... They've been given another chance. They are not "working out" in practice per se.... But they are present at every practice.

They are the coaches "b".... Sorry... I don't know how else to say that.
  5. SSP's post in YOU gotta keep YOUR composure! was marked as the answer
    This thread is still funny.

This was my first post on GMG.com this season and I thought it was fitting to revive it (if only for myself)as a testament to not only how much this team has evolved, but its fanbase, too.

It's been a helluva fun season, people. It's been great getting to know most of you and thanks for welcoming us Calesi's to the family.

To the first of many consecutive SUCCESSFUL SEASONS!!!!! Go Mean Green!!!
  6. SSP's post in Free admission for STUDENTS was marked as the answer
Ha! What's funny was the fact that she was the one who always goes to the games. I did say, "You aren't going to wear THAT all day, are you?" She laughed and said she would change before the game.
