That is true...he has talent as proven at Parish. Right now i would take anyone that could help us get over the hump and start winning and a regular basis.

I saw this kid in Mesquite, he was a back up QB. He sat the bench the whole 2011 season, played some DB. I believe he transferred to Sherman last spring and unless this guy hit a growth spurt he was only about 6' and a buck 70. we need a guy that is about 6-4 to play QB with 4.6 speed at a min.

Yes it would be costly but it would also increase the revenues for the school. The Mavs had a good program back in the day, i was sad to see them go away!

I agree, the coaches went with their gut and made a change, but it was the wrong change. I stated in a different post that the MG have 3 kickers (2 being freshman) and Olen. Olen is the veteran and should be leading but when you make a change you go with the best next in line, Paul was not the best next in line. Never the less the MG are going to get things going right against FAU and Thompson is going to lead us to a 14 point victory!

"Quantum Leap", "Teen Wolf 2", and "Couples Retreat" come to mind when thinking of these characters. haha

they do every spring and early fall. its called "walk on" they have tryouts and the best one gets a spot on the team.

i dont know, the saints kicker Janakowski (sp) is about 265lb, so one could argue the point, but then again kickers and punters do need to look good on the sideline drinking their gatorade, right? ;P

all the better reason to strengthen our kicking game. i know that we have beaten this issue up for the past few weeks but from i have found after researching our 3 kickers is that we have the tools we just have to use them. Olen is a dang good kick off man but lacks in FG dept over the past 2 years, Frosh year was good? Paul (Freshman) did not fair well last week and was not a proven FG kicker in HS 4a Tamez (Freshman) lead the state last year in 5a FG and punting looks to me like we should use a 1-2 punch and try it out, just might work

I agree, but look at it this way: If we can stay in a game where our QB is off, our running game sputtering, and our kicking game just, just...well you get the scenario. Then with just a little work and maybe a few changes we will be high powered! The defense showed up and did their job now the offense and special teams need to do the same, results will be a WIN!

Have faith we will turn this season around and get back to back wins this year. Yes we are 1-3 but look at it in a positive way, we lost to (2) top 15 ranked teams respectably. The loss to Troy was upsetting because it could have very well been a win, so lets build off it and get stronger.

Gotta think positive and gotta have some faith, we will get on track and go at least 500. Long shot...but I will go out on a limb!

Olen is 8 out of 9 between 20-29 yards (per an earlier post). That equates to a 89% chance of making it! I am looking up stats on Paul and he made 7 FG's in 2010 and 0 through his first 4 games in 2011 per max preps. Does not take rocket science to see the big picture. (IMO)

When kicking there are other factors that set up the miss, such as the snap, the hold, the wind, and the rush. I posted on another thread that maybe Mac should use a 2 kicker system to take some of the pressure of the kicker. Hey but I am just another Monday morning QB, "if's and but's produced nuts, we would all be squirrels"! lol GMG!

You know I agree Olen should have taken the 3rd FG attempt, going by the stats he had a better chance of making it than Paul. If you are going to let a new kicker kick it is better to start off with that kicker or at least use the 2 kicker system that Alabama uses. They kick off with Foster and use Shelley to kick FG's up to 45 yrds, beyond 45 they use Foster again? Hey could not hurt look at what it did for them last year, I think Shelly had like 5 FGS in the Champ game?

I checked on this and found out that there are 2 walk on Freshman kickers on the roster. Zach Paul is out of Wakeland High School made (140 out of 140 PATS) in his HS career and lettered 2 years Travis Tamez is out of Mesquite John Horn made 16 of 18 FG his senior year and was an All State kicker his junior and senior year. Sounds to me like they let the wrong kicker kick. SMH
