No, it's a real thing. He doesn't get to travel with the team and he isn't eligible to play in the game, but he can practice at UNT with the team. If we travel to a bowl then he wouldn't be able to practice with the team at the bowl site, but he can participate in the practices at our field. Not the bowl sponsored practices at the stadium of the bowl. Not saying you're wrong but I have never heard of this. Spring yes, but bowl practice?
Sorry. Felt like I repeated myself a lot there.

Yes they do, and we're going after one. Hafoka Olie.Does Euless Trinity still have Tongan players? Those boys were huge.

Not to mention he starts practicing with us next month.I bet no one is more intimate with the drop-off in production than Connor himself. If he reads this, I'm sure he isn't shocked.
Good thing for him is, he has a scholarship to UNT in his pocket, and will be facing some tough competition for QB reps. If he comes in and works hard, he'll get looks.
Since Connor will be enrolling in the spring he will be able to practice with us once the fall semester ends. Probably just scout team and such, but a chance to get his feet wet nonetheless.

Throwing to Kidsy, Goree, Fonzale, Rutherford, and Jalen Adams. Calling pass plays would be a good ideaYou mean as a redshirt junior after DW is taken in the 2017 draft?
-
I agree and have for a while, following his high school season.
We offered him because he has the size and had a decent junior year as a first-year varsity starter. The thinking was that he'd take a big step in his second season as a starter, but he regressed statistically.
We won't need him to start any time soon with Dajon most likely getting the redshirt. Means could potentially move to tight end or back up Dajon for four years and compete for the starting qb spot as a redshirt senior.

Tee Goree just turned 17. They'll grow plenty, don't worry. They're playing receiver on the outside, they don't need to be big bruisers, but they will put on some weight.6'3" X 170 and 6'5" X 185!?!?...
Someone had better get themselves into the weight room ASAP. Otherwise someone is going to get snapped like a twig by some Laramie Lee-like DB when they go up high for a pass. And that (as they say) will be that for the season.

Yup, for those of us OCD people, if you're doing dynasty you need to add in ODU and WKU after year 1, drop Tulsa, ECU, Tulane, and switch USM and UAB to the westYes, they are in CUSA. As always, you can do custom conferences so you can switch them up next year when there won't be a game and need to put Old Dominion (also in game) in CUSA

Jeffrey Wilson, running back, Elkhart
JT Williams, defensive tackle, Denton Ryan
Max Martial, JUCO defensive tackle, Iowa Western C.C.
Aaron Jenkins, defensive tackle, Dallas Lincoln
Christian Beard, offensive lineman, Waco midway
Xavier Washington, defensive lineman, Cedar Hill
If we can lock up these guys then we can go try and get some big fish who maybe would not have considered UNT before the year started. But it's nice having commitments from the leading receiver in East Texas and in the DFW.
-
Yeah, they may not have the most stars between the three of them (although Davis and Goree are solid 3-stars), but I dare you to find me three receivers in any recruiting class in this state that have more production catching the ball than these three. Plus all three still going strong into the third round of the playoffs with hopefully plenty more big catches to come.186 catches, 3605 yds, and 51 TD's between the 3
I'm very excited about Jalen Adams as well and he's going to help upgrade the position as well with his speed, maybe even the return game as well.
-
Yeah, but the open tryouts don't get the full attention of all the coaches, notably the manager. And yes, you need references to be allowed to go to those. That's what I mean by playing against players who were cut. Guys who maybe were allowed to play in the fall.Actually, yes, thats what an open tryout means, anyone can tryout - though for D1 you have to have completed High School so I guess technically not just anyone can. You have pretty much zero chance as a true walk on. Invited walk ons typically are guaranteed at least the fall.

Glad to see you posting more on here Devin. Very few students out there who bleed green the way you do.Agreed on the students. I'm all for heckling but most of their stuff is just dumb.
My personal favorite is when we were playing Lafayette and these idiots kept yelling stuff like "Everyone from Louisiana's stupid!" YOU SUCK after every missed shot was also a favorite. When I informed them our coach (JJ was coach at the time) and a good number of players were from Louisiana, if they sucked so bad, we shouldn't be losing, and they and their heckling sucked they called me a d bag and then stole all the rest of my chants.
My favorite interaction with the other team was when Denver's women's coach offered to give me beer and pizza money before the game if I didn't rag on them too hard.
Also, number 2 from Incarnate Word had his shorts on backwards for the whole first half . The band would chant "Shorts!" every time he got the ball. I believe it took the students until the end of the half to figure it out. However, when he came back out for halftime with his shorts on the right way the student section and band gave him a standing ovation. Not much interesting about the game that others haven't said. Loved Williams attacking the paint.

68 catches, 1421 receiving yards, 16 receiving touchdowns.Between the two of them they have 118 catches for 2184 yards and 35 TD's. anyone know what Fonzale has putt up this season?
Edit: so in other words, we have the leading receiver in East Texas and the leading receiver in the DFW

One thing we know this team has is talent
-
He has he production that our qb commit Connor Means doesn't have, but Means is about 4 inches taller and faster. Personal preference kind of thing.Told Peacock he was hoping for a UNT offer...

Here's an article from ETSN on the commitments

Baylor only has two receivers currently committed but Texas has six. You're spot on there. If you'll notice on his rivals page he is listed as a soft verbal. Obviously we are his choice among the schools who have offered hence the commitment, but if he receives an offer from Baylor or Texas (who have both been in contact at one point or another) he would likely switch, at least that's how I'm looking at it.

He's committed to UTSA and that's his only offer reported.Have they looked at the QB? He short but throws a good passes.

More win in this post. The legitimacy of his talent and his age two more positives. Who knows, he could have a little bit of growth left. Maybe height wise, but I'm sure he'll grow weight wise being in a college weight program. But we don't need him to be Dez Bryant big or anything.Excellent re: John Goodman voice.
As far as being surprised by the commitment, I mean that no other BCS schools outside of Colorado have offered him. This is a big, big steal for North Texas.
The cherry on top is that I've read a couple of places that his birthday is late August. He was 16 when his senior year started, so age-wise he's closer to a 2015 guy than a 2014 guy. Huge upside in that considering he's a barefoot 6-foot-2 guy with laser-timed sub-4.60 speed.
Yeah, I really don't know what gives with his offers. He has the height, speed, and has produced about as much as you'll see in high school for one of the best 3A programs in the state of Texas. No prospect is ever a sure thing, but Goree and Rutherford give Mac a lot to work with and he has developed the talent here pretty well. Just hope he utilizes them.
-
Yeah, not to mention the kid has caught 40 touchdown passes the last two years for over 2,500 yards and still going. Against 3A competition, but pretty good 3A competition.I read on a 247 thread that Goree measured 6'3 3/4 at a combine and ran a 4.58 laser timed 40. That is absolutely solid.
Size, speed, and production are all nice traits to have.

Funny you should mention that. Here's his thread from their fan forum. Very elitist fans and saying things like he would only pick us over Colorado us so he could stay close to mama. Definitely a fan base in denial. Read the recent posts after he committed today.http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Terian-Goree-152367
Likey!
You know what, though? You gotta wonder what CU Buffalo fans think about their lot these days. They are competing with mid-majors for recruits...and losing!
http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.php/92913-14-TX-WR-Terian-quot-Tee-quot-Goree
They are a pac 12 school, but they haven't been relevant since they got smashed 70-3 in the 2005 big 12 championship game.

Absolutely. We are one of the few club teams that don't have an NCAA team at our school. Most colleges with decent enrollments throughout the country have club baseball teams, whether they have an NCAA team or not.Do schools typically continue to have a club team even after they begin a scholarship team?
Our division is Tech, UT, Baylor, and SMU. Over the years UNT and SMU have had the inferior club teams because we don't have a real team. Tech, UT, and Baylor have kids on their teams who were cut from the real team, or at least were able to try out. Some guys were good JUCO players and were given the opportunity to try out at a D1 school or continue their career at a little school and play NAIA or something. And contrary to popular belief, not just anyone can try out for a D1 school and its Coaches.
-
Absolutely. The key word is should. We have the weapons, as was an excuse in the past, and we have some young talent at qb. We should be able to air it out and I hope playcalling doesn't hinder thatAlso, don't forget Jalen Adams, one of the best high school receivers in Oklahoma, who should also be a slot receiver. I like Rutherford because you can't coach height and he'll give short corners fits.
When we have receivers like that we will be forced to throw more often. This could really open up our offense.

That's what I'm afraid of as well. Very iffy. Good to see us bringing in some stud receivers in recruiting. At least that's a focus, and if those guys pan out you'd like to think we'd utilize those guys as our strength.Understatement of the year. That was the worst called game I've seen all year. No matter who wins the QB battle next year, they'll have to ride the roller-coaster that is our game to game play calling.
-
We can sign 27 this year. We have about 23-24 scholarships open right now but that's without kids quitting or transferring. I could see us signing all 27. And yes. We are ahead of schedule compared to last year. So, fifteen out of, what, 25 spots? Curious to know if we are ahead of previous years paces with the 15 verbals we have now
