  1. I think you'll see us grab one JUCO receiver this cycle. We've already offered at least 5. We have receivers, but we don't have very many who have proved themselves yet, especially on the outside. 4 of the 5 receivers we have offered are outside receiver types, standing between 6'1" and 6'4". Baxter is the one who isn't that tall, but the coaches may still look at him as an outside receiver if they believe he is fast enough to get open on the outside (which he may be). I don't think we need a slot JUCO receiver, but we may need some immediate help on the outside next year, since 3 of the 4 outside receivers on our post-spring two-deep are seniors (Darius Terrell, Skip Caldwell, and John Chelf). Here's what our receiver situation is looking like in 2015, just based on who will be returning from our 2014 roster, and their projected grade classification in 2015. Outside receiver 1 (X receiver) - Darvin Kidsy 6'0" (Junior) - O'Keeron Rutherford 6'4" (RS Freshman or Soph) Outside receiver 2 (Z receiver) - Rod Lancaster 6'2" (RS Junior) -Tee Goree 6'2" (Sophomore) In the slot I think we'll be fine. Carlos Harris (our most proven receiver) will be a senior and we'll also have Turner Smiley, Fonzale Davis, and Jalen Adams as well as possibly Willy Ivery to play there. But out of those outside receivers we've only seen one play, in Darvin Kidsy. Tee Goree, who should be a stud, has not proven himself yet, Rutherford is still not a sure thing if he'll make it to campus with his grades, and Lancaster has been hurt almost his whole time here and is currently behind 2 former walkons on the depth chart. Hopefully Lancaster can put it together and capitalize on his talent, but it's hard to call him a sure thing. A JUCO outside receiver would have a great shot to at least cracking our two-deep. Hopefully Lancaster starts playing well, Goree shows what we know he's capable of, and Rutherford makes it in and performs well. Even if all that happened, it would still be nice to have another option outside. If one or two of those things don't happen, it becomes almost a necessity.
  2. 6'2" 180 lb receiver for East Mississippi CC. Originally from Hattiesburg. He reports an offer per Brad Hoiseth, as well as offers from Troy and Central Arkansas. Had 840 receiving yards as a junior and 690 plus 7 scores as a senior. Shows a Mississippi State offer out of high school. Interest may have been slowed due to grades. It looks like he may have redshirted so, if he did redshirt, he would come in with 3 to play 3 (a redshirt sophomore). No JUCO recruiting profiles up yet. 3. Well, there goes that hope. That's 2 Texas receivers, who we offered, in 2 days for Illinois.
  4. I don't feel super confident about this kid, but I am starting to wonder if we may actually have a shot. Houston would likely be the favorite here, but they already have 2 outside receivers committed this class and signed 5 or 6 (I believe they may be grayshirting a receiver) last year. They throw the ball a lot, so that may not be a big deal. BYU is a very good program, but you never know if they really have a legitimate shot at a kid if he isn't Mormon, which I don't know if Mays is. Illinois would be tough, but they just got a commitment from AD Miller last night. May not affect Mays, but you never know, plus Illinois is far and not a great program. We beat them out for Kidsy before, so it's possible. Then Fresno State may be a good fit, but that's pretty far. Just depends what this kid's priorities are with proximity, playing time (depth chart), conference exposure, and winning. We may be able to offer him the best combination of these 4 out of the schools after him. Problem is, I don't know if this kid has actually visited yet, how hard we're recruiting him, or if he's shown much interest in us at all.
  5. Vito recruiting series: http://share.d-news.co/uJpQa0U I've had a gut feeling ever since we offered that we're going to pull this guy. Got some ties to UNT, only in-state school going after him, attractive depth chart at outside receiver, and recruiting coordinator/receivers coach Mike Grant going after him. I think he commits at the Friday night lights camp at the end of the month and we have a great week or two of commits around then.
  6. 5'10" 170 lb cornerback from Converse Judson. Teammate of Abdul Beecham. Was second-team all district last season. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1406573/dominic-cameron
  7. Choosing today between Michigan, Illinois, Arizona State, and Cal.
  8. Also has a South Alabama offer. I really hope we could pull this kid. As long as his head is on straight, he's very talented and would really help bolster our outside receiving core immediately.

  11. Yup. He did make a decent tackle on our 2014 signee Jalen Adams in his highlights. He has the tools. Like you said, tackling is very fixable. Just hope we can hang onto him if the bigger schools offer rather than just show interest.
  12. He visited Notre Dame. It was clearly incorrectly reported as an offer. He himself even said we were his first offer when we offered. Louisville showed a lot of interest and Louisville insiders even thought there was a good enough chance that they might offer that they predicted him to Louisville on 247. Kid is very talented, has good size, and as a result he has been receiving a lot of big school attention. Even visited Texas down in Austin. Just like Rodney Bendy, our first commit, Preston has the size and skill set but has yet to have great on-field production. Both could end up being great steals if we could hold onto them, and I hope we do.

  14. Commitment #4 for class of 2015. Ashton Preston from Edmond, Ok. A 3-star DB on scout. Solid size for a corner at a Sparq verified 5'11" 179 lbs and has solid speed. Hopefully he can have a big senior year and we can hold on to him. Link to his recruiting forum thread: Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/601264/ashton-preston
  15. Some good news. Commit #4. And a 3-star on scout. Kid has solid tools that can be developed into a good corner. Hope he sticks.
  16. Unrated on rivals just means they haven't evaluated him yet. Not that he's a 0-star or something. As for Woods, he is a 3-star on scout. Other than Larry Hughes, we really don't have a realistic shot at getting our higher rated o-line targets. Erik McCoy (ok state & Kansas), Connor Williams (OU & Texas), Tyler Moore (Texas), Josh Jones (ok state & TCU), and Madison Akamnonu (OU & Texas) all have pretty big time offers and will be extremely difficult to land. Not to mention those who have already committed to bigger programs. Those are all of our more highly rated and recruited offensive line targets. Marks and Woods would've been good gets because of their offer lists, not their rankings. Of our remaining o-line targets we have 5 who hold offers from other schools. Our coaches are good evaluators and developers, but it's hard to reach your potential as a program when you aren't getting the kids you want from other schools, especially in your conference. I think we'll be fine, but just letting you know why these losses in recruiting matter and that it has little to nothing to do with the star ratings.
  17. You guys need to stop hating on Ben. He is well on the way to getting another thread locked. That way no felons can steal it! You can steal our TVs, but you can't steal our threads!
  18. Has nothing to do with recruiting service rankings and everything to do with how we're stacking up in recruiting against other schools. Particularly in head-to-head battles for kids.
