  1. In the event of mass injury, fortune turning against us, or collusion, I can see us going 6-6. It would leave me incredibly disappointed but not entirely shocked. I cannot imagine any circumstance where the team has a 4-8 or 5-7 season, however.
  2. Q: What should you say to comfort a grammar nazi? A: “There, their, they’re.”
  3. Reading this, I'm thinking things like: *Man, I hope we don't miss Trevor Moore too much. *Man, I hope English and Mayfield can play. *Man, I hope Fine can find a way to improve even the slightest bit. Then it occurred to me...I just hate variables.

  5. This. It's being noted more and more that we are offering guys early and then other schools take note and they end up getting a P5 offer or something.

  7. I'm just glad we have a guy like Kelvin Smith at right end...wherever that is.
  8. PSA: This is a name for a real currency. I Google'd it moments before I used the laughing emoticon response. I am now infinitely happier having this knoweldge.
  9. @Mean Green Maniac, this is mainly for you...(glad you finally joined) Sept. 1: SMU - Sloppy play by the ponies gives us a close W, with the help of the home crowd. Sept. 8: Incarnate Word - W. That's all I've got to say 'bout that. Sept. 15: at Arkansas - Close L, but an L all the same. Prolly a breakaway on a roundabout caused by missed assignments. Sept. 22: at Liberty - Easy W, despite concerns. Sept. 29: Louisiana Tech - Surprisingly convincing W. Oct. 6: at UTEP - W. Oct. 13: Southern Miss - W. Oct.20: at UAB - L. Blazers play the spoilers and get vengeance for last year. Oct. 27: Rice - W. Nov. 10: at Old Dominion - W. Nov. 17: Florida Atlantic - L. Nov. 24: at Texas-San Antonio - W, simply because I have to believe we get it. Finish regular season 9-3, miss the conference championship because the Blazers end up being that good, but win the bowl game against a high-profile G5 to get to double-digit wins.
  10. When I was a tour guide, one of my go-to jokes was "UNT is one of ___ schools that paints their field the school colors."
  11. Anybody seen the movie "Hot Fuzz"? Brett reminds me of the reporter from that movie.
  12. That's fair. I'd like to go into why the current mentality about what is best for a university is problematic, but that'd take us into a completely different conversation that would have to be moved off this forum. And as much as I like pie, I primarily come here to see gifs of Fine > Guyton in peoples' signatures.
  13. If I remember correctly, it's that the amount the state provides per university is increasing at an annual rate less than it has in previous years. Of course, if you're fundraising for the university, you'll simply this to "the state is giving us less, so we need more from you." As a nonprofit fundraiser myself, I'm not dogging it - it works. And is all but necessary in an environment where higher education is treated as a commodity in a free market.
  14. Probably gonna get railed for this one, but let me play Devil's Advocate here, because I am a big proponent of understanding "the other side's" argument, even if you don't agree with it. I didn't put in the time to make a pretty infographic, but consider the information. Currently, the tuition at UNT is higher than that of Texas State and UTSA (since those are the universities selected in the athletics graphic) and overall cost of attendance is pretty close for all three. Looking at the bigger picture, the cost of attending college is growing at a rate that far exceeds the inflation for other "commodities." Someone previously said that the athletics fee is the only one that students have the ability to control, I believe to suggest that they shouldn't be able to control it. I'm no libertarian, but I would argue the opposite - students should have more say on where money can be spent. I know an 18 year old isn't a CFO with decades of experience, but a college degree is seen as being damn-near a requirement to get a job (why not technical skills? that's a whole other can of worms). It is more and more expensive to go to college and there is one tiny piece that I, Joe Collegestudent, can control. I should absolutely weigh the cost and benefits and not just jump on board with paying more because UTSA can gargle my jubblies (they can, btw). For the record, I really hope the fee increase passes because I believe that, for better or for worse, our society measures the value of a degree by the university's athletic prowess and I want my degree to be seen as prestigious. However, if I were in school and I didn't believe that, you best believe I would fight tooth and nail to keep costs down to get the best value for my degree. Shift money, sure, but don't just keep charging me more and more so we can (being cynical, here) pay our coach $1.11M instead of $1.09M. ALL THIS TO SAY: I won't be cursing UNT students for fools if this doesn't pass. 15. Fun Fact: He was also a finalist in the competition for the most stereotypical UT white guy name.
  16. Even being the pessimist I am, I don't see UNT losing any of the close match-ups it won in 2017. Next year we'll have the same culture and spirit we had this year plus more experienced players PLUS new, highly touted players. And, if we're lucky, a fully in-tact coaching staff. We'll win 9 again next season, and probably in more compelling a fashion.
  17. I don't recall having this many players make the conference teams last season... #understatement
