  1. I think 2 o'clock kickoff may be wishful thinking. The red stuff doesn't clear out until at least 3 PM it looks like. All depend on what the lightning does.
  2. The problem is they are supposed to delay 30 minutes after each lightning strike within 8 miles. There has been lightning strikes all over the metroplex all morning and looks like that isn’t stopping until later this afternoon.
  3. I knew every team would treat their game against us like their super bowl after 4-0. The way we’ve handled it to this point has been poor, regardless of tonight’s outcome. This UTEP team shouldn’t be within 20 points of us talent wise.
  4. Even a WKU team with a worse record than we could potentially have got ranked at the end of the year by winning the conference. If you can't show you can win in your conference, they will say Arkansas was a fluke and just a god awful team. Our schedule was so favorable this year, that close of a loss is going to sting for a while. Program is going in the right direction, but there's no guarantees. Look at that same WKU program and where their football team is now. Lost to a FCS team not far removed from being the envy of the conference. They had the right coach, he left, and again nothing is guaranteed in G5 college football.
  5. I think our overall record will still be great, the biggest thing about last week is not being in the driver’s seat for your division after 1 week of conference play. Really wish we played LaTech later in the season. If they don’t lose to UAB this week, it’s hard to see them losing 2 conference games. If that’s the case, we could potentially be 11-1 and not in the conference championship game. That would sting. Even with that record I doubt they rank a G5 that doesn’t win their conference. Lofty goals of NY6 aside, this was the season to finally get us ranked for the first time in the modern era.
  6. If nothing else, they learned a lesson tonight. A lot of talking point in BTG about overcoming adversity. This team hasn’t faced it this season. They just got their nuts kicked hard. Everything was going right until it wasn’t anymore. Weak mental toughness from everyone involved tonight.
  7. Gave me chills. Can’t shake the opportunity we lost though.
  8. No one is arguing against the fact that this is a special season and this is still likely a special team. The disappointing part is most G5 teams literally get one shot in most fan’s lifetimes to pull something really special. It usually takes a combination of things, the most unlikely of which is demolishing your “body bag” team because they’re in a down season. Those NY6 teams don’t have any trouble in conference until at least the championship game, and even then only if their opponent is also ranked, usually in MWC or AAC. With the changes coming in 2023 it’s likely the window to achieve that once lifetime opportunity is quickly closing.
  9. I can think of smaller towns with less infrastructure than Denton that make it work with way more people. Regardless, they could have anticipated this many people. I’ll admit I’m probably overreacting to all this but I have little doubt we will look back at this game for a long time and wonder “what if”.
  10. Sitting in traffic getting out of here for over 45 minutes also makes me laugh at the ideas floated about expanding the stadium. Figure out how to handle 30k and then we’ll talk. Getting in and out of this game has been a joke, and if I were a casual fan I wouldn’t be back. It’s so frustrating to see one step forward and two steps back every time for this program.
  11. There’s no way to spin this one as a positive, regardless of how the season is going. There’s almost nothing you can do the rest of the season that will garner national attention, which we sorely needed. This was a once in a lifetime chance and we blew it, no two ways about it. I’m usually optimistic about UNT Football but this was heart wrenching. The worst part was seeing all the fans there and knowing how many won’t be back. The bar has been raised, and losing to a conference mate we beat last year is going to set us back for a lot.
  12. With who is in charge right now, I don’t see that happening. Actually a good chunk of their segment yesterday was about how smart that Joe Greene ad was and how many people we have that know what they’re doing now. I don’t just mean our current AD or coach, who I almost guarantee will both get poached. This starts at the top and Smatty has a job here for as long as he wants in my opinion. He has an entire vision for the university, with athletics being a major part, I don’t think we’ve seen before. With his local family ties, I don’t think he’s going anywhere either.
  13. I posted in another thread... That is what it took Western Michigan, except it was 6-0. Similar circumstances, they were blowing teams out too including a regional P5 in Illinois. Took 6-0 to finally crack in the top-25 after receiving votes in both polls by week 3. They had 14 “points” or votes after 4-0.
  14. If this was a court case, what in RV’s history makes any of us believe he’s capable of making the right hire in that situation? It was probably already known he was on his way out, so his input was likely greatly diminished.
  15. I love Smatty saying “I don’t want to throw RV under the bus, but this was all me, bitches.” Confirmed what everyone suspected but that was a bit of a bomb I didn’t expect in a FWST fluff piece.
  16. I’m guessing pre-season. ESPN win projector doesn’t have us losing another game. With closest game being @ UAB (~60% win percentage).
  17. 6th highest ranked G5 so far in both rankings. Behind UCF, BYU, Boise State, USF, and San Diego State. We have much easier schedule ahead of us than any of those teams.
  18. Also, in no way putting the horse in front of the cart here, but it took Western Michigan going 6-0 to crack into the Top 25 in 2016 (#24 going into week 7, steadily climbed from there). They are a good reference point, as they were probably about as respected as we were going into the season. UCF got into the Top 25 earlier, but they had the advantage of being a well-respected program in the eyes of the voters, and being in a better conference.
  19. Fairly certain this is the most votes we've received since returning to FBS. We did get 2 votes in the coach's poll after the Heart of Dallas win and 1 AP vote before our New Orleans bowl loss in 2003. Don't know about any others. Certainly never this early in the season.
  20. Maybe I wasn’t clear — I want to keep his stats a secret exactly because I don’t want a P5 school to poach him. His first game stats were great.
  21. Thanks for burying the Will Kuehne stats in there so that they aren’t obvious. I hope we can keep those a secret.
  22. His dad was my junior high coach and I recently ran into Kane in our hometown of Irving. Good kid, if he’s like his dad he’ll be a good coach. One of the better passing QBs my alma mater has had in a while. Wish him the best of luck!
