  1. Memphis did what they should. That is a good look for the conference. UAB with its second missed chance, after the OT loss to Bradley, they are the one team that has so far performed under expectations. Well that and Charlottes loss at Liberty, which is a pity too.
  2. Just glad its basketball season. So far the new coach there looks more promising. That way I only have to be annoyed one drink long about this, and can then forget about it until next saturday and instead enjoy a team that has aspirations.
  3. UNT hasn't had a single game this season where it did not turnover the ball. The only game it won the turnover battle was the first game. You stop those self-inflicted wounds you start winning games. As clear as this game looks right now: if you are up 2-1 in turnovers instead of down, you are right there.
  4. Offense been horrible this half. 2 (and a half) give aways and a three and out.
  5. Good stop by the defense. Still, if NT wants to win this game it needs 30+ points. Offense has to cut down drastically on the self-inflicted errors
  6. The defense isn't very good. It needs a good deal of help. Two giveaways in a row when you could absolutely get into the game is killer
  7. Ooof Dodged one. But still. First down on a drive you can take the lead on, and you let defenders roam free in the backfield
  8. UNT has a shot to take the lead here. Gotta start putting it into SMUs players mind that it is worth it to get nervous.
  9. Sure they do and I doubt they are out there publicly crying about it. But to some degree it is a competitive space, even more so as the enrollment cliff is a real thing.
  10. The season was a big disappointment, especially because at the beginning it looked so promising. To then miss out on not just the NCAA, but even the conference tournament... even without expectations that cannot be the standard you need to reach. If he was not physically at the last games, then there is probably something going on that is not being said openly, but speculation about what is idle. But if we assume that the absence was just a long and tough flu or something like that, then I would say he earned enough respect to not get fired immediately because of the last two seasons. But that does not mean his seat is not warming up. Miss the conference tournament again and it might well happen. I doubt Brad Stracke and Sujay Lama were seeing Odessa college and Arkansas State as their dream destinations 3 years ago.
  11. UNT was already very much on its way to being a more and more respectable research university. Smatresk achieved quite a lot in that regard. This will do a lot to help UNT, Tech UH and TSU close the gap to A&M and UT. I doubt Baylor, TCU and SMU are thrilled though.
  12. I guess it was a bit more understandable if it didn't happen to be a sister school. That speaks to a bit of tone deafness? But beyond that it is of course much better to be in a position where you can name your score, than to have to eek it out in that kind of game.
  13. I have this feeling, that UNT is gonna win this one. Lets say 38-31
  14. I think it makes a statement to the fans that the fans will appreciate. but it also makes a statement to any DC you want to woo to come in. That statement is: You don't have time. if it doesn't work within 8-10 games you will be gone. Its a not gonna help getting the right guy.
  15. The can go 2 years before they need to get back to that minimum. So they may well ride that out until the next playoff reform in 26. However in that case they urgently need to find teams they can play for 24, as neither of them has anything resembling a full FBS slate. My question: why would the MWC do this and bail them out. If I were Nevarez (MWC commish) I would want something really tasty in return, because the MWC teams will have to cancel games for this to work out and it essentially gives up leverage in its negotiations with the PAC2
  16. So why is this simply a game on the schedule or an exhibition game? If it is an exhibition game: why? would this not be the kind of game that would be useful to have on the schedule, and doesn't NT still have the possibility to add games this season?
  17. Good luck to him. Hope he makes it stick
  18. Don't know what to think. These coaches do great things in the half time break. Makes you wonder why they cannot do the same thing between games. The second halves show that the players could do it if the conditions are right. But -particularly on defense- things just keep looking horrible the first few drives of games, when the opposing OC has the chance to script it. At the same time, its great to see that the team has bought in. If they hadn't, then fighting back like that when you keep getting punched in the mouth would not be possible
  19. D played a terrible first half where Memphis never punted. And an outstanding second half. Only score they gave up was the short field after the fumble. Now it is for the offense to prove it can win games
  20. OK. Its back to being a game. Might be a great comeback. But still an uphill battle because of the first half. Asking the defense to get a stop before they can run 8 plays. Expect run.
  21. Ok. Looks like UNT made great half time adjustments again. The problem is that even if you do that, when you keep going down 21 in the first half, you are not going to win all that many games
