  1. That may be true and all... but 100 schollies doesn't reduce the Canyon between the top of the P5 and the bottom of the P5, it widens it, as it also means that LSU, Alabama, Texas etc, will take the 15 most promissing recruits from TCU, Iowa State etc. That would make the gap bigger, not smaller. It's not the number of schollies we need to worry about, but the money low-tier P5 schools will throw at recruits, that we will not be able to throw at them. Right now we win a recruiting battle against a team like KU every once in a blue moon. Not all the time, but it happens. Once all the money gets infused, that will not happen more often than a lunar and a solar eclipse on the same day.
  2. So basically what Ben said. Just shorter
  3. Ok a bit harsh with the title. But it's not just the new autnomy. What transpired in the judges decision on the Ed O'Bannon case seems even worse: Schools are now all allowed to pay players up to 5000$ a year, and players will get money for their imaging rights. You can bet, that this amount is higher at big P5 schools, just by virtue of being more on TV etc. This is looking bleak right now.
  4. I doubt that there will be a big push for more schollies. If you are among the less successfull schools of those 65 you have no interest for that to happen. One of the big effects would be that it would allow the Alabamas and UTs of the world to put more distance between themselves and the Vanderbilts, Missouris, Kansas and Iowa states.
  5. Ouff, that is no short trip for the parents. But might be a good choice for the kid. Since we seem not to have offered, probably on account of already having the numbers we need at TE, I'd say good on him for that choice, and all the best.
  6. Wins: Nichols St FIU UTEP good maybes: FAU UAB Southern Miss 50/50: SMU La Tech bad maybes: Indiana Rice UTSA Loss: Texas overall I think about 7-5 I do think there is hope in absolutely every game thogh. And even though I put UT as a loss here, there is a shot. I think the ceiling of this team will be just as high as last season, but I expect a lot of inconsistency with all the lack of experience.
  7. That is kind of funny... when considering the source of this statement is the same poster who would not believe a Benford season could go wrong in a million years, no matter what players will be playing what role.
  8. It is really hard to choose which one of these is the worst, but I am gonna go ahead and give my vote to southern miss, followed by Miss state
  9. read the full article at http://North Texas' Summer Heats Up
  10. It feels to me like we are ahead in terms of the numbers, from where we were last season (although I can't substantiate that with facts), which should allow the staff the be more picky on the later commits. More importantly though: while we are not getting loads of 3 stars, it is not smart to only concentrate on that., just because it is easy to visualize the star system. There is a whole market of differences among 2 stars as well, and I do feel like we get more of those players that just miss out on being 3 stars instead of players that were never considered for 3 star ranking. For example: if you look at the average player quality on 247sports, we are rather similar there to all of the top half teams in C-USA, and about two points higher than we ended last season.
  11. Ahh I wish trice a spot on the final roster, and coach joseph a mostly succesfull season and a 57 to 0 drubbing at the hands of the university of North Texas
  12. So. Miss. But I have no clue what your partner looks like. Pretty much... just that this feels more like telling everybody (your girlfriend included) that you are planning to cheat on your girlfriend. Nothing good can come of this.
  13. Hmmm. while I think all schools in C-USA would take an invite from a celarly more prestigous conference, I do not think these were well chosen words at all. It is not smart to make it this clear that you are not happy with your current conference and ready to jump into bed with the next suitor that is a bit prettier or that can offer 50$ more....looks cheap on you and is bad for the current partner.
  14. The Fulmer Cup does a good service of keeping track of all off season arrests in college football. See for yourself
  15. I am trying, I swear, but I am starting to lose count. So there were a LB and a RB, for team rules yesterday, 2 WR suspended for rape charges, another Rb kicked for team rules and now if I count correctly a sixth player gone within two days? And that is on top of the two that will probably sit out the first game because they dined with agents? Really not sure UT is gonna have anyone to sub during the opener.
  16. No, nor does it have anything to do with the two WRs who also just got suspended because they face chages of sexual assault. The roster is starting to thin out.
  17. Dammit... you are right. that is humiliating. In my defense, it felt like a laramie Lee hit, he has put so many good licks on people. And the main point still stands: there are a few UNT players very capable of taking out Ash if his protection is not A+
  18. Ah... UT better not forget to block Laramie Lee like LSU did 2 years ago. I am not sure UT season could stand such a blow to its fragile QB
  19. Well that is a logical update. I am not totally sure though, that it completely eliminates the possibility for a fiasco such as last seasons.
  20. Now that school I assume you are alluding too, is with 0 points so far this season. Now if this is because of better behavior or because of better cover ups... I wouldn't know. But yes clearly you can be B XII and do your good share of illegal activity, as TCU clearly proved. Still it may not be a total coincidence that the SEC has won the Fulmer Cup 4 times in a row now.
  21. Sure but W&M is ahead on the merrits of only one player all by himself, which means they are not yet eligible for the Fulmer Cup. A&M on the other hand... now that is a true display of a team effort in the criminal behavior departement. This is why UNT will never be SEC
  22. If he is immune to coaching (and I don't say he is, I know exactly nothing to that point), then he will have to correct this quickly - at the end of the year, coach Mac doesn't bat an eyelash giving the scholly of a more talented player who proved to be immune to coaching to a medium talented walkon who's talent is to do exactly what the coaches ask him to do.
  23. So 3 commits in one day . Things are starting to move. Players better start commiting before there is no more spots on this boat. If you are a DB you probably already missed the boat.
