  1. Sept. 6, 2011 An Open Letter to University of North Texas Students from Head Football Coach Dan McCarney: This Saturday will be a historical and monumental day for the University of North Texas and the Mean Green football program. With the opening of the state-of-the-art Apogee Stadium, we are beginning a new era at North Texas. Along with my coaching staff and every member of this football team, we will work tirelessly to make this new era one that you can be proud of. College football is special because of the environment that is created by the students on campus. It all begins and ends with the students. We represent you every time that we step onto the field and we take that responsibility seriously. I have made it a mission of mine to interact with as many students as I could since I came to UNT nine months ago. I have spoken to countless groups, addressed every incoming freshman orientation class and been all over campus meeting and greeting you. I understand the importance of your potential impact on success for this football team and we can’t do it without your support. We need your help to make this week special. We only get one chance to open a new stadium and we need you to be a part of it. It all begins with the pep rally on Friday night. I am bringing my entire team so they ALL can see how excited you are for this game. On Saturday, when the team arrives and makes the Mean Green March down the hill to the stadium we want to be enveloped in a sea of Green and White. And finally at 6 p.m. when we face off against a very good Houston team, we want to play in front of the largest crowd to ever see a UNT football game in Denton. YOU can make the difference! It is the students that create the fervor and passion that can only be found at college football games. I have challenged this football team to play at a level of intensity that will make you proud and I would like to challenge you to create an environment that will be as equally satisfying for them to play in. I am honored to be the head football coach at UNT and I can’t thank all of you enough for the words of welcome that I have received since my arrival. Together, with your help, we will build this program into a point of pride for the entire University of North Texas family! Go Mean Green, Dan McCarney Head Football Coach University of North Texas
  2. Maybe a little unethical, but i am a student and i would be able to buy a parking pass for you.
  3. wow! I can not wait for this season!
  4. And we gain confidence, mesh together as a team more, get some of the kinks out, maybe even try some new plays, and get some guys who normally wouldn't play some time and experience under their belt. I see the downside of having a body bag game, put there are also positives. Maybe instead of having a Tulsa we could have had an easy win game.
  5. Richie and Greggo from 105.3 the fan will be at Rudys in Denton tomorrow.
  6. I honestly just want a body bag game so we can have one OOC win and wrinkle out the horrible play we saw against FIU. This years OOC schedule is ridiculous. Thank God we have one next year
  7. I get that we are often a body bag game for others. Just don't get why we don't have one every year. Didn't have one in 09, 10, or this year. RV needs to get one every year. Doesn't make sense why he doesn't.
  8. Are you trying to say we can't beat a low ranked FCS or Div II team?
  9. Why don't we schedule any? It seems like every other school in the nation has at least one. Would it hurt to schedule one FCS or Div II team? It would help us iron out some of the wrinkles and gives us a win under our belt. I just don't get why we don't have at least one on our schedule.
  10. I was thinking the same thing for the SBC. Nothing wrong with SBC East and SBC West idea. If your not expanding your dying. UTSA is growing at a fast rate and cusa will surely notice especially with their large t.v. market. Expanding is better than sitting around and doing nothing.

    FIU

Can anyone else see FIU going undeafted? With a win at Louisville I think it is possible/probably that they do. It would also be great for the Belt if they do.
  12. it will sound much better when the stadium is filled. The sound was bouncing off everything.
  13. I don't get why we arguing how the fourth down should have been converted... Qb sneak, have a fullback, or whatever. How about you punt the ball. It was the first quarter, your defense got burned in four, YES FOUR, plays for a TD. Punt the ball and put them back deep in their own territory or at worse on their own 20. How hard is that?
  14. i believe it was 7-0 then they got the ball back and in one play it was 14-0. So in a total of 5 offensive plays they scored 14 points correct me if im wrong
  15. I agree Thompson had a.... decent game. He is pretty much a starting freshman. I do believe Osborn faced an FIU team that had a lot of their second stringers in, but remember Osborn is a "second" string quarter back, and he looked good. I believe Osborn looked cool, calm, and collected in the pocket, more so than Thompson. he'll get another chance, especially when it gets out of hand with Houston ( hope I'm wrong). Don't get me wrong Thompson did alright too. I think there will be a battle for the starting position for awhile.
  16. on a good note osborn looked pretty dang good.... but again FIU could have been going half speed b/c they were up by so much,
  17. Go for it on fourth down in the first quarter! Don't challenge the TD catch when your losing by 30 or whatever points! WHY?!?! WHY?!?!

  19. "The Big 12 could take further hits in coming weeks. If the dominoes continue to fall, four super conferences of 16 teams each might be the eventual end game." I'm afraid this is where everything is headed and we will be left out.
  20. I will be there with the GF. Y'all think the pourhouse will be better? Maybe I should go there. A/C goes a long way.
  21. I'm confused. What about my previous statement scares you?
  22. 50 minutes! heck thats pretty good. I saw at wal mart they had a gallon of water for $1. I also love the grill that hooks to the back of the truck but if the new place to tailgate is going to be on the hill i don't see it being useful for me. With that being said where is the rock n' rodeo bus and the UNT 18 wheeler, and such going to be? At fouts field still?
